Tonight’s destination is the Cincinnati, Ohio area, where we will enjoy an included dinner near our hotel. (D)

Day 2: Following breakfast we continue north as we travel to Dayton, home of the sprawling United States Air Force Museum. We’ll visit this largest military aviation museum in the world that has more than 150 major historic aircraft and other exhibits spanning the period from the Wright Brothers to the space age. Lunch will be included today. Our destination is Frankenmuth, Michigan, where we have accommodations tonight (B,L)

Day 3: It’s just a short drive this morning to the Bavarian Village of Frankenmuth, Mich- igan. We’ll take time to browse in Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland this morning. Next, we go to the very top of the lower peninsula of Michigan, where two of the Great Lakes, Michigan and Huron, surround us. We’ll spend the night in the St. Ignace/ Mackinaw City area. (B,L)

Day 4: This day has been set aside to explore the beautiful and magical Mackinac Is- land. Indians called it “Great Turtle” and the island was a stronghold of the Straits of Macki- nac for 115 years. We will take a short ferry ride to the island, and as we step ashore we seem to be transported “Somewhere in Time”. We will have a carriage tour of the island and an included buffet lunch at the beautiful Grand Hotel. We have overnight accommodations on the island, at the Lake View Hotel, in the heart of the historic vil- lage. It is the oldest continuously operated hotel on Mackinac Island, built in 1858. Since cars are not permitted on the island, we’ll enjoy a peaceful, relaxing step back in time, as the re- mainder of our afternoon and evening are free to explore! The Lake View Hotel captures much of the past with its Victo- rian-style atmosphere and nineteenth-century architecture. Dinner will be on our own in the downtown area. (B,L)

Day 5: Following breakfast at the Lake View, we travel back to the mainland. We board our motorcoach and depart for Green Bay, Wisconsin, following the northern shore of Lake Michigan. This afternoon we’ll make a stop at the Sand Point Lighthouse in Escanaba, Michigan. Construction began in the fall of 1867 and was completed in early spring 1868, at a cost of $11,000. The light first shone on the night of May 13, 1868. The lighthouse is a story-and- a-half rectangular building with an attached brick tower. The tower is topped with a cast iron lan- tern room which houses a Fresnel lens, emitting a fixed red light with a radiating power of 11.5 miles. We’ll enjoy a self-guided tour of the lighthouse which includes a chance to climb the tower and witness what it would have been like to be a lightkeeper around the turn of the 20th century. We’ll continue on to Green Bay, where we will enjoy an included dinner, before checking into our hotel, where we have accommodations for the next two nights. (B,D)

Day 6: A peninsula divides Green Bay from the main body of Lake Michigan and boasts 250- miles of ruggedly beauti- ful shoreline. Door County is often called the “Cape Cod of the Midwest.” Following breakfast, we depart and pre- pare to spend the day in awesome Door County. Upon arrival we meet our local guide for a day of touring. We enjoy an included lunch along the way. As we explore we will learn the history of the quaint little villages that make up this beautiful area. We return to Green Bay for our overnight. (B,L) Continued on next page

Page 3 Day 7: We depart this morning for Chicago, “The Windy City”, on beautiful Lake Michigan. Enroute we will visit the Harley-Davidson Museum, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Upon arrival, we’ll take a one-hour Chicago River Architecture Cruise departing from Navy Pier. Dinner tonight will be included at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company at Navy Pier. This evening we will visit the Heritage Farm Museum & Village. We are in for a historical treat as we step into a frontier cabin and learn of a frontier life based on agriculture and barter, as we tour from building to building and see the decades pass from an agrarian to an industrialized society. Dinner will be included after our tour. (D) Day 2: Following breakfast, we will tour the Blenko Glass Factory, one of the last producers of hand blown glass in America. Now we travel south into the coalfields. We will learn about the Matewan Massacre which occurred during a labor dispute in 1920. Miners here, who had joined the newly formed UMW, were being fired and evicted from their company owned homes. It was a hostile atmosphere with mines owners hiring mercenary guards which led to shootings. Coal miners from across West Virginia tied red bandanas around their necks and marched to Matewan in support. Did you know that it was from this March, and those bandanas, that the phrase "Redneck" was first coined? It may surprise us to know that the Matewan Chief of Police was one Sid Hatfield, a descendant of the Hatfields involved in the bitter feudal rivalry that occurred between 1878 and 1891. Our afternoon features narrated sightseeing to some of the actual Hatfield & McCoy feud sites and a history of the events that oc- curred here in the back country of West Virginia. Next, we enjoy the Hatfield & McCoy Show, followed by a story teller or musical entertainment. Tonight we will enjoy a Stolen Pig Dinner, with all the trimmings. Fol- lowing lunch we will take a Greenbrier Bunker Tour. Built by the Eisenhower Administration, it was a Fall Out Shelter for Congress in the event of a Nuclear Attack. This secret facility existed for 30 years, in plain sight, yet hidden from both hotel employees and guests. It's a fascinating story and we will learn how the pantries were stocked and replenished with fresh produce and supplies. At any moment there was enough fresh water and food here to support the entire House & Senate for 60 days. Our over- night accommodations are in Lewisburg, WV, following an included dinner at Food & Friends. (B,D) Day 4: Following our included breakfast this morning we depart for home.
