Dear XXXX, I am pleased to provide my recommendations for both Verona in Northern Italy and in the South of . Option 1, South of France I would suggest staying in Mougins rather than Cannes as the former is less commercial and more authentic and is central for the golf courses and some lovely villages and towns. Mougins in a famous artists’ village with many restaurants on the fort-like hilltop. My suggested hotel is the four-star Hotel de Mougins which is close to the famous golf course of Cannes Mougins and a 20-minute walk (1.8km) from the very centre of the Mougins although there are restaurants closer to the hotel. Hotel de Mougins is a small hotel with about 60 bedrooms and is renowned for its food. I’ve always enjoyed my visits there and clients give it warm reviews. The bedrooms look out over the gardens and pool in a courtyard setting. I have based the price on Superior bedrooms as they have a little private terrace and are a little more comfortable than the Standard bedrooms.

Hotel de Mougins and one of its Superior Bedrooms. For golf, I have cherry-picked four super courses – Cannes Mougins which is under a mile away, the gorgeous Taulane which is in the hills above and well worth the drive of any hour and the beautiful Saint Endreol. The fourth course is Saint Donat which was designed by Trent Jones and is a subtle and enjoyable golf course close to Mougins.

Cannes Mougins – previous host to several European Tour competitions

Taulane – designed by Gary Player and one of my favourite courses in France I have provided prices for two options regarding transport – hiring three Opel Vivaro nine- seaters or having private airport and golf transfers. Both the South of France and Italy are notorious for hire-car “rip-offs” so I only work with big-name hire car companies i.e. Europcar, Enterprise, Alamo and I include the CDW and the Excess Refund Insurances so you don’t have to sign for any costly extras.

The South of France Holiday Itinerary (based on 16 people holidaying in June 2019) • Own flights to • Three Enterprise Opel Vivaro 9-seater mini-vans with CDW and Excess Refund Insurances • Five nights’ bed and breakfast in Superior Twin Bedrooms at the four-star Hotel de Mougins, Mougins • One round at Cannes Mougins • One round at Taulane • One round at Saint Endreol • One round at Saint Donat

As detailed above @ £1019 per person.

Mougins

Saint Endreol

If you preferred to stay in Cannes itself, the Gray d’Albion is your best bet. This is a modern four-star in a great location just set back from La Croisette boulevard. Staying here would cost £1139 per person with golf (up to five rounds) at Cannes Mandelieu (twice), and once each at Grande Bastide, Opio and Cannes Mougins. The golf itinerary is good but not as good as the Mougins itinerary. Cannes is obviously lively and would provide a greater variety of apres-golf but the hotel charges for parking and eating and drinking would be more expensive than in Mougins. The price includes access and sun-loungers at the hotel’s private beach, access to the new fitness centre and a free drink at the casino. Hotel Gray d’Albion

Cannes Mandelieu There are less expensive options – such as Hotel de Golf at Valescure and Chateau de la Begude at Valbonne. Both are four-star hotels sitting on nice golf courses but Valbonne is a quiet hamlet five miles inland from Mougins and Valescure is a 45-minute drive west of Cannes, just outside Frejus. And if you’re looking for a golf resort and to play all your golf on the one course, it’s hard to beat the Dolce Fregate near Bandol (Marseille Airport is one hour away)…Let me know if you would like prices on any of these options.

Option 2, Verona

For Verona, both my “man in Italy” and I think that it’s best that you stay in one central hotel on the south-east side of Lake Garda so that you’re central for the golf courses and attractions of the lake and resorts and also within easy reach (30-minute drive) of Verona if/when you want to explore there.

The four-star Palazzo Ai Capitani is in the very middle of the lake-side town of Peschiera del Garda and provides a typically Italian-contemporary style within an ancient setting. The hotel has only 15 bedrooms so the atmosphere would be cosy. There are various car parks (payable) close by.

Palazzo Ai Capitani

For golf, Paradiso del Garda is a modern and well-maintained target-golf course with bunkers and water hazards aplenty. Verona is a very pretty parkland course about halfway between the hotel and the city of Verona. Gardagolf regularly hosts the European Tour and is a mix of narrow and quite short holes and wider and longer ones. It’s very well maintained. The fourth course is the American-like Arzaga, designed by Jack Nicklaus Jnr.

Verona

Local airports are Verona and Bergamo. Because of the price of hire cars in Italy, the option for private transfers is attractive although obviously more restrictive in regards to exploring.

The Lake Garda Holiday Itinerary (based on 16 people holidaying in June 2019) • Own flights to Verona or Bergamo • Three Enterprise Opel Vivaro 9-seater mini-vans with CDW and Excess Refund Insurances • Five nights’ bed and breakfast in Twin Bedrooms (in a mix of bedroom categories) at the four-star Palazzo Ai Capitani, Peschiera del Garda • One round at Gardagolf • One round at Verona • One round at Arzaga • One round at Paradiso del Garda

As detailed above @ £915 per person. Taking private airport and golf transfers would cost £10 less per person.

I hope the above is helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries, require further suggestions or wish to book.

I look forward to hearing from you.
