HEAD COACH RAY ELIOT ... Dynamic leader of Illinois football fortunes, succeeded Robert Zuppke in 1942 and is fast becoming a notional figure in sports. Graduated from I llinais in 1932, he coached successfully at Illinois college, Jacksonville, before returning to his alma mater in 1937. BACKFIELD COACH RALPH FLETCHER ... The nome of Ralph Fletcher is famous in Illinois football history. He was holfbock on the championship elevens of 1918 and 191 9, and the runner-up team of 1920. Rolph returned as head freshman coach in 1939. LINE COACH TONY BLAZINE ... Tony stepped from the comparative obscurity of a small college to national fame over-night when he played 59 to 60 minutes in the College All-Stars-Chicago Bears game in 1935. After graduation from Illinois Wesleyan, where he starred in three sports, Blazine played five yeors of football with the Chicago Cardinals and one with the New York Giants. BACKFIELD COACH LEO T. JOHNSON ... Chief scout for the Illini is Leo Johnson, who olso assists with the backfield and has served as head track coach since 1937.
