A. Milne wrote two books about a bear named Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends. The former was called simply Winnie- the-Pooh (WP) and was published in 1926, and the second, The House at Pooh Corner (HPC), was published in 1928. The books contain a collection of stories that the author used to tell to his son before he went to bed in the evening and they came to be counted among the most widely known children‟s stories in literary history. Many consider the books about Winnie-the-Pooh some of the greatest literary works ever written for children. They have been lined up and compared with such classic masterpieces as Alice in Wonderland (1865) by Lewis Carroll and The Wind in the Willows (1908) by Kenneth Graham. How Milne uses poetry and prose together in his stories has earned him a place next to some of the great poets, such as E. Nesbit, Walter de la Mare and Robert Louis Stevenson (Greene). In my view, the author‟s basic purpose with writing the books was to make children, his son in particular, happy, and to give them a chance to enter an “enchanted place” (HPC 508). The books were not written to be a means of education or to be the source of constant in-depth analysis of over-zealous critics.

Winter, MD, MMM, JFK Family Medicine Residency Program Abstract Resident physicians are particularly susceptible to burnout due to the stresses of residency training. They also experience the added pressures of multitasking because of the increased use of computers and mobile devices while delivering patient care. Our Family Medicine residency program addresses these problems by teaching residents about the mindful practice of medicine. We utilize A. A. Milne’s classic children’s books, Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, along with Benjamin Hoff’s The Tao of Pooh to explain Dr. Ron Epstein’s four habits of mindfulness: attentive observation, critical curiosity, beginner’s mind, and presence. We also use video clips from two Disney movies, The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh and A Day for Eeyore as well as Kenny Loggins’ song, House at Pooh Corner. With Winnie-the-Pooh’s help, residents learn how to become more mindful physicians by incorporating Epstein’s four habits of mindfulness into their daily practice. • Winnie the Pooh: Canadian Roots
Winnie The Pooh: Canadian Roots Colton Thomsen Henry Braun School Mrs. Kot (Grade 6) Winnie The Pooh: Canadian Roots By Colton Thomsen Grade 6 (Mrs. Kot), Henry Braun School Introduction We all know about Winnie the Pooh the character, but have you ever wanted to learn about who inspired Winnie the Pooh and the connection to Canada? I did. In my research, I learned about Winnie the bear, how she got her name, and how she inspired A.A Milne to write children’s books about her. The stories written about Winnie have been read by children all over the world since 1926 and have affected our childhood ever since. Did you know Winnie is from Ontario? In my report, I will tell you more about where she came from and other interesting things and fun facts. Who is Winnie the Pooh The character, Winnie the Pooh, was inspired by an American black bear cub, who became an orphan once a hunter killed her mother. In August 1914, the bear cub was found by a trapper who brought her to White River, Ontario, a place where people can have pet bears. It was there the cub was met by a soldier Lieutenant Harry Colebourn from Winnipeg, who adopted her and named her Winnie for his hometown Winnipeg. A couple of months later, Coleburn had to go to World War I and had to leave Winnie. He left her to live in the London Zoo until he came back. “Take good care of Winnie for me” Harry explained, to the other soldier the soldier asked “Why Winnie?” and Harry said, “For my home town Winnipeg”.

Alternative view of segmented documents via Kairos 29 May 2019 | Draft Enrolling Winnie-the-Pooh's Companions in Climate Change Discourse Key roles in the environmental psychodrama of Hundred Acre Wood -- / -- Introduction Dramatis personae of the climate change psychodrama Fabulous traditions of managing psychosocial change Pathology of Hundred Acre Wood Character strengths in Hundred Acre Wood Systemic roles in Hundred Acre Wood Enneagram roles and connectivity in Hundred Acre Wood 9-fold Political grouping within the European Parliament as a "Hundred Acre Wood"? Psychodynamics among the "animal spirits" of Hundred Acre Wood? References Produced in commemoration of the recent destruction of the Hundred Acre Wood -- and in anticipation of further environmental challenges Introduction Despite its widely acclaimed urgency, the debate on climate change could well be said to be a shambles. Different groups take radically opposed positions and advocate radically different agendas, with seemingly little prospect of fruitful reconciliation. Separately it is argued that those claiming the greatest expertise are effectively "in denial" -- despite their claim that those failing to appreciate their insights are themselves "in denial" (Are Environmentalists and Climate Scientists in Denial? 2019). There it is suggested that there is a strong case for a psychosocial perspective to review the tendency to "care fatigue" in relation to environmental claims and the "psychic numbing" of associated humanitarian appeals. The following exercise endeavours to draw upon widespread insights underlying popular enthusiasm for Winnie-the-Pooh and his familiar companions, as described in a series of books (A. A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh, 1926) and subsequently in a Disney film (Winnie-the- Pooh, 2011).

Classic Poetry Series Alan Alexander Milne - poems - Publication Date: 2012 Publisher: Poemhunter.com - The World's Poetry Archive Alan Alexander Milne(18 January 1882 – 31 January 1956) A. A. Milne was born in Kilburn, London, England to parents John Vine Milne and Sarah Maria (née Heginbotham) and grew up at Henley House School, 6/7 Mortimer Road (now Crescent), Kilburn, London, a small independent school run by his father. One of his teachers was H. G. Wells who taught there in 1889–90. Milne attended Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he studied on a mathematics scholarship. While there, he edited and wrote for Granta, a student magazine. He collaborated with his brother Kenneth and their articles appeared over the initials AKM. Milne's work came to the attention of the leading British humour magazine Punch, where Milne was to become a contributor and later an assistant editor. Milne joined the British Army in World War I and served as an officer in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and later, after a debilitating illness, the Royal Corps of Signals. After the war, he wrote a denunciation of war titled Peace with Honour (1934), which he retracted somewhat with 1940's War with Honour. During World War II, Milne was one of the most prominent critics of English humour writer P. G. Wodehouse, who was captured at his country home in France by the Nazis and imprisoned for a year. Wodehouse made radio broadcasts about his internment, which were broadcast from Berlin. Although the lighthearted broadcasts made fun of the Germans, Milne accused Wodehouse of committing an act of near treason by cooperating with his country's enemy.

Oral Reading Record: Winnie the Bear (299 words) Student _______________________________ Date ___________________________ E SC E/msv SC/msv Winnie the Bear Winnie-the-Pooh is a bear loved by children all over the world. They like stories about Winnie and his friends, Piglet and Tigger. In the stories, Winnie looks like a happy stuffed bear. He loves honey and gets into trouble. But did you know Winnie was a real bear? And that real bear came from Canada! Winnie Finds a Friend The real Winnie was a female black bear born in 1914 near White River, Ontario. When Winnie was a cub, a trapper killed her mother. He did not know what to do with Winnie. One day, an animal doctor named Harry Colebourn came to White River. He saw the trapper sitting on a bench. He was holding the black bear cub on a leash. Harry liked the little bear at once. The trapper agreed to sell the cub for $20. Because Harry was from Winnipeg, he named the bear Winnie. 1 Winnie Goes to England Harry was in the army. When he had to go to England, he took Winnie along. Then Harry was sent to France, where the army was fighting. He gave Winnie to a zoo in London, England. That way, Winnie would be safe. At the Zoo Winnie lived at the zoo in London, England, for many years. She was a very gentle bear. She liked sweet foods. Children loved to watch her. In 1924, a boy named Christopher Robin liked to visit and feed Winnie.
