The Power opens their campaign on the road for the first time since 2016, when they went 5-2 in a seven-game stretch at Greensboro and Greenville. West Virginia Record: 0-0 Season High Statistics comes off a 2018 campaign where they finished 71-62 and fourth in the South Atlantic League (3rd in the Northern Batting Statistics: Batting: AVG: .000 (0-for-0) AVG: .000 Division), missing the playoffs on the final day of the season with a heartbreaking loss to the Charleston RiverDogs. AB: 0 AB: 0 RISP: 0-for-0 (.000) RISP: 0-for-0 (.000) NOW REPPING THE WEST COAST: At the conclusion of the 2018 season, the Pittsburgh Pirates and West Virginia H: 0 H: 0 Power ended a 10-year player development affiliation that stretched back to 2009. A few weeks later, the Power inked R: 0 R: 0 a two-year deal with the Seattle Mariners, marking the first time the West Coast-based MLB club aligned themselves HR: 0 HR: 0 with a team in the SAL. HR: 0 HR: 0 Errors: 0 Errors: 0 A “POWER”FUL ROSTER: Once again, the West Virginia Power’s Opening Day roster is burgeoning with some of the most talented prospects in their parent club’s farm system. Four of the Mariners’ top prospects begin the year in 2019 VS. DRIVE West Virginia, including three in the top 10. Headlining the star-studded pack is #2 prospect Jarred Kelenic, whom Seattle traded for last December when they dealt Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the New York Mets for their most 0-0 recent first-rounder. Following him isJulio Rodriguez, a Dominican phenom who will make his stateside debut in 2019 Date Location Result after dominating the Dominican Summer League in 2018. Rodriguez is the Mariners #4/#5 prospect depending on the April 4 Greenville 7:05 P.M. publication. The final member of the Power’s top-10 trio isLogan Gilbert, who gets the ball on Opening Day. Last but not least April 6 Greenville 7:05 P.M. is #23/#29 prospect Nolan Hoffman, a Texas A&M product who produced in a big way for the Aggies as well as in April 7 Greenville 3:05 P.M. his first pro season between the AZL and Everett, boasting a 2.16 ERA in 21 games over 25 innings with four saves. GILLY GILLY: Gilbert toes the rubber on Opening Day for the Power, while also making his professional debut after May 19 Greenville 3:05 P.M. missing all of last season due to injury (toe surgery and viral infection). Gilbert was Seattle’s 1st round draft pick in 2018 May 20 Greenville 7:05 P.M. (14th overall) out of Stetson University, where he ranks second in career ERA (2.48) and in the top 10 in Ks and wins. June 8 Charleston 6:05 P.M. OPENING DAY: West Virginia is 4-11 on Opening Day dating back to the 2005 season. Greenville flummoxed the June 9 Charleston 2:05 P.M. Power, 8-1, in last year’s season opener in Charleston, W.Va., behind six scoreless innings from Jhonathan Diaz and a 3-for-4, two RBI effort from leadoff manKervin Suarez, who is on the Drive’s Opening Day roster this year as well. 2018 Results The club’s last season-opening triumph came on April 9, 2015, in a 7-6, 10-inning win over Savannah, which snapped Series tied 2-2 a six-year stretch of Opening Day defeats. All-Time SAL Series HOWDY, G-VILLE: The Power has embarked on its first trip to Greenville since 2017, when they split a four-game WV leads 40-33 series with the Drive from August 18-21, 2017. West Virginia holds a 16-18 all-time record inside Greenville’s friendly confines. The club will make one more trip to Fluor Field in 2019, dialing up a four-game series from May 17-20, while the Drive comes to Appalachian Power Park for four games from June 6-9.
