Late Padma Vibhushan Mohan Dharia was closely associated with suryadatta Group of institutes, . He personally attended many of the functions of Suryadatta such as ‘Teachers’ Day’, ‘Blood Donation’, ‘Gandhiji Anniversary’, various social cause rallies, He was the Chief Guest & Patron of almost all ‘Suryadatta Foundation Day Award Ceremonies’. Dharia ji was recipient of prestigious Suryadatta Life Time Achievement and SuryaRatna Awards, instituted by Suryadatta Education Foundation, in recognition of his yeomen services in the field of planning and implementation of National policies in the capacity of Central Cabinet Minister of Industries and Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission and his efforts of making the country ‘Green’ through his NGO; Vanarai. He had keen interest in innovative educational activities undertaken by Suryadatta for the holistic development of the students, professionally and academically. It was his dream to see that Suryadatta becomes ‘Harvard of India’, and mentioned it in his letter dated 11th February 2013 and 7th March 2013. He persuades with Dr. Chordiya; Chairman & Founder President of Suryadatta Group of Institutes to make his dream: a reality.

Suryadatta indeed has lost a friend, philosopher and a guide in demise of Mohan Dhariaji. On 26th Oct. 2013, the 13th day of his demise, Suryadatta organized a prayer meeting to pay tribute for his contribution for development of Nation and Society and homage to towering personality of Late Padma Vibhushan Dr. Mohan Dharia. During this meeting, Dr. Prof. Sanjay B. Chordiya fondly shared his memories with the students and staff about Mohan Dharia’s strong bonding with Suryadatta. He also briefed about Suryadatta’s efforts for making visionary Dhariaji’s Dream about Suryadatta becoming ‘Harvard of India in future, a reality. He recalled his first meeting with Dhariaji in 2004 and thereafter the bonding developed between Dhariaji and Suryadatta, till he breathed his last. In spite of ill and failing health, Dhariaji attended Suryadatta Foundation Day on 7th Feb. 2013 and accepted Surya Ratna Award because he treated himself as a part of Suryadatta Institutes.

On this occasion Shri Rajendra Dharia and Smt. Sadhana Shrof(Son and Daughter of Mohan Dhariaji) were also present. They both were overwhelmed to witness the heartfelt emotions of ‘Suryans’ towards their ‘Anna’. Both of them while expressing their gratitude, requested Dr. Chordiya to continue Suryadatta’s bonding & association with ‘Vanrai’ in future also. Sadhanatai was heard saying that infrastructure & education plans of Suryadatta are truly world class & it has potentials of becoming ‘Harvard of India’ shortly.

Padma Shri Dr. Niranjan Pandya: Head of Pune Blind Men’s Association who was also present during this meeting, said, Mohan Dhariaji was not only his personal friend but a teacher also. During his association with Dharia ji, of more than 5 decades, he witnessed Dhariaji’s political rise; from a Pune Municipal Corporation’s corporator to Central Cabinet Minister of Industries and a Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission. Declaration of ‘Emergency’ by then prime minister of India: Late Mrs. was fearlessly opposed by this Saint of Modern India, for which he was imprisoned but he did not deviate from his principles and ethics. Mr. Pandya labeled Mr. Dharia as a ‘Light House’ and Said Dhariaji was a ‘One Man University with characteristic nobility and humility’. As suggested by Dr. Pandya, Dr. S.B. Chordiya announced institution of ‘Suryadatta National Award’ in the name of Padma Vibhushan Mohan Dharia from 2014, to be given on the occasion of Suryadatta Foundation Day to the personality dedicated for Environment Protection and Afforestation.

On this occasion suryadatta declared that its Green Garden Campus would be named as ‘MOHAN BAGH’, in the memory of Late Padma Vibhushan Mohan Dharia. Sadhanatai, Rajendra Dharia, Padma Shri Dr. Niranjan Pandya, Dr. Sanjay B. Chordiya, students and faculty members of Suryadatta planted flowering plants as well medicinal herbs and vegetable plants of nearby 20 varieties in this Garden. This was truly a fitting tribute to Dhariaji: Crusader for Green India.

Honorable Dr. P. C. Shejwalkar: the Guru of Management Science could not attend the meeting but wanted to read his letter to the students, in which he shared anecdotes showing what a down to earth and affectionate person, Dhariaji was.

Mrs. Sushma Chordiya: Secretary of Suryadatta Group of Institutes advised students to love and respect their parents through her emotional song, dedicated to the memory of Dhariaji.

The expressions on the faces of ‘Suryans’, after the prayer meeting were saying ‘The Show of Vanarai will go on and we will contribute to it without might’.
