ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 FEW of the NUMEROUS EXAMPLES of a SILENT REVOLUTION, Spearheaded by Adani Foundation EDUCATION | COMMUNITY HEALTH | SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT | RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT A SILENT REVOLUTION Let’s Listen To The Silence... Healthcare…. Served Education…. Provided Livelihoods…. Facilitated Infrastructure…. Built The space between the words is A Silent Revolution. Simple. At Adani Foundation, we call it A Silent Revolution. For it is an evolutionary change in society without affecting its organic continuity. A revolution, that brings desired change, without undesired fallout. Also, it represents our way of stirring a revolution without being vocal about it. ADANI FOUNDATION #02 ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 FEW OF THE NUMEROUS EXAMPLES OF A SILENT REVOLUTION, spearheaded by Adani Foundation... Nathabhai, who had lost both his kidneys, had to travel 150 km to a hospital in Gandhidham every week for dialysis. Today he gets his dialysis in his own town, free of cost! A tear of happiness rolling down his cheeks is A Silent Revolution. Slum dweller Ramiben couldn’t even dream of providing school education to her son. Today her son is studying in class V at Adani Vidyamandir, a CBSE affiliated school. A deep sense of fulfilment in Ramiben’s life is A Silent Revolution. Hasanbhai was completely dependent on fishing to earn his livelihood, leaving him unemployed for more than four months a year Today he is better off thanks to the alternate livelihood. Also, he married off his daughter with the help of extra earning. A fresh energy in his life is A Silent Revolution. The school children in Jamuniya village had to study sitting under a tree; bearing scorching heat, chilling winds and rains. Today they have a nice school building equipped with all amenities. A curvy smile on their face is A Silent Revolution. This is the power and impact of A Silent Revolution. ADANI FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 #03 EDUCATION | COMMUNITY HEALTH | SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT | RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT ADANI FOUNDATION #04 ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 EDUCATION | COMMUNITY HEALTH | SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT | RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT A Silent Revolution is a transition from despair to hope, darkness to light, adversity to opportunity, deprivation to possession ADANI FOUNDATION #10 ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 If we want to reach real peace in this world, we should start educating children. – Mahatma Gandhi Education for all making it a reality ducation is a human right which must be accessible to everyone, without any discrimination. Children must be able to go to school, and thereby benefit from the same opportunities to build a future. On the other hand, the world as a whole has emerged as a knowledge society and education is at the core Eof it. Education can be the true catalyst to bring change in not just an individual but the entire community as a whole. Education is a flagship segment upon which Adani Foundation works. We have adopted an integrated approach to improve the quality of education in the rural as well as urban areas, along the lines of UN’s Millennium Development Goals. Adani Foundation functions at various levels in the field of education with a dual objective of spreading education and improving the quality of education. We have adopted a model wherein we can address this objective effectively. On one hand, we establish and run our own schools where children belonging to unprivileged sections can avail quality educations at highly subsidised rates. On the other hand we lend support to the government schools by providing programme support, material support and infrastructural support. Besides, Adani Foundation also gives educational assistance in terms of scholarships and grants to the deserving and needy students. Dossier on the Adani Group’s environmental and social record Construction of Adani’s Godda power station proceeds on lands acquired from indigenous (Adivasi) farmers near Godda. Two Adivasi look on. Photo by Geoff Law, February 2020 Preliminary Edition, September 2020 Preamble AdaniWatch is a non-profit project established by the Bob Brown Foundation to shine a light on the Adani Group’s misdeeds across the planet. In Australia, Adani is best known as the company behind the proposed Carmichael coal mine in Queensland. However, the Adani Group is a conglomeration of companies engaged in a vast array of businesses, including coal-fired power stations, ports, palm oil, airports, defence industries, solar power, real estate and gas. The group’s founder and chairman, Gautam Adani, has been described as India’s second-richest man and is a close associate of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Adani Group is active in several countries but particularly in India, where accusations of corruption and environmental destruction have dogged its rise to power. In central India, Adani intends to strip mine ancestral lands belonging to the indigenous Gond people. Large tracts of biodiverse forest, including elephant habitat, are in the firing line. Around the coastline of India, Adani’s plans to massively expand its ports are generating outcry from fishing villages and conservationists. In the country’s east, Adani is building a thermal power station designed to burn coal from Queensland and sell expensive power to neighbouring Bangladesh. Investigations, court actions and allegations of impropriety have accompanied Adani’s progress in many of these business schemes.
