Dundee Area Bus Changes from Sunday 14th August 2016

 Stagecoach are closing depot (but not the Bus Station).  Fife/Perth & Kinross/Angus/Dundee City councils all tendering new local bus contracts, some of which will all serve Dundee.  Commercial changes from Xplore Dundee and Stagecoach too.  Dundee City schools will change the school day, with finishing times varying depending upon the service.  The schools are on the move too! From and Harris decant into the brand new , which will encompass too.  Stagecoach timetables are expected online at www.dundeebuses.info towards the end of July 2016, with printed timetables on buses about a week later.  Xplore Dundee timetables should be available at www.dundeebuses.info w/c 18th July 2016, with the colourful timetable booklets printed and online nearer the time of the changes.

Xplore Dundee Services 1A/1B (St Mary’s – City Centre)  No changes are planned to these services.

Xplore Dundee Service 4 (Camperdown Leisure Park – City Centre)  Service withdrawn, but see Services 23/23A/23B and 27 for replacements as far as Dryburgh.  For Camperdown Leisure Park, passengers are able to use Xplore Dundee Service 23 (or indeed, Stagecoach Strathtay Services 57/59) and alight at Camperdown Gate. A map showing these stops can be found below.

Xplore Dundee Service 5 ( Hospital – /Barnhill) Xplore Dundee Service 9/10 (Outer Circle)  Service 5 is rerouted between Botanic Gardens and to serve Glamis Road, Dickson Avenue, and Charleston Drive.  Perth Road between Glamis Road and Ninewells Circle will be served by the 9/10, 204, plus Stagecoach 16 and X53, combining to provide five buses an hour to the City Centre and Ninewells Hospital.  Tom McDonald Avenue will be served by the 9/10, plus Stagecoach 16 and X53, combining to provide four buses an hour to the City Centre and Ninewells Hospital.  Monday – Friday peak time journeys from Barnhill to Ninewells Hospital will be revised to mostly leave 2 minutes earlier from Gardyne Campus, 2 minutes earlier from Whitehall Street, 2 minutes earlier from Step Row, thereafter times as now.  Monday - Friday off peak journeys from Barnhill to Ninewells Hospital will be retimed to leaver Whitehall Street 2 minutes earlier, from Step Row 2 minutes earlier, thereafter times as now.  Monday – Friday peak journeys from Ninewells Hospital to Barnhill are mostly unchanged, with a few slight changes to individual journeys.  Monday – Friday off peak journeys from Ninewells Hospital to Barnhill will leave Step Row between 3 and 4 minutes earlier than now, thereafter times as now.  Monday – Friday 08.40 from Ninewells Service 10 starts at High Street at 09.00.  Some other timetable changes by a few minutes on other parts of the Outer Circle.

Xplore Dundee Services 9S/10S (Ninewells Hospital or City Centre – St Paul’s Academy and/or St John’s High School)  Buses will run in both directions as Service 9S.  After school bus from St Johns to Ninewells and City Centre withdrawn, with one journey retained timed for St Paul’s Academy.  Afternoon times vary, depending on the day of week, in line with new Dundee City school hours.

Xplore Dundee Services 11S/12S (Ninewells Avenue/Perth Road – Lawton Road for Harris Academy decant site)  Services withdrawn after the new rebuilt Harris Academy reopens to pupils. The new Harris will be served by the 5, 9/10, 16, X53, and dedicated school buses.

Xplore Dundee Service 14 (Ninewells Hospital – Douglas)  Timetable revised, and will now only operate between The Stack and Douglas, on a similar frequency to now.  The intermediate running times on the remainder of the route are changed, to improve reliability. Some buses are now 2-3 minutes earlier or later than now (mornings) or up to 5-10 minutes earlier/later (Evenings).  Eastbound, the first two arrivals into Douglas in the morning withdrawn.  Westbound, there are extra buses at 08.41 and 17.44 from Douglas to The Stack, but the first afternoon bus from Douglas to The Stack is withdrawn.  Service will serve the full length of Clepington Road, no longer running via Forfar Road and Kingsway East after Maryfield.

NEW SERVICE Xplore Dundee Service 14S (Douglas – St Paul’s Academy)  Former Strathtay service 501 now operated by Xplore Dundee as Service 14S. Morning service retimed to leave at 08.10, with the times revised for reliability.  Service now starts from Balunie Avenue near Baldovie Road, instead of Arbroath Road/Monymusk Park.  Afternoon changes in line with new school closing hours.

Xplore Dundee Services 15/17 (Whitfield – Ninewells Hospital/Tech. Park)  Monday – Friday, and Saturday, towards Ninewells Hospital, no major changes.  Monday – Friday, and Saturday, from Ninewells, most buses will run two minutes earlier from Ninewells Hospital towards Whitfield.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 16/16A/16B (Dundee – Perth)  Most of Service 16A is withdrawn, but a revised Service 16 will run hourly during the day, Dundee bus station via Perth Road, Ninewells, Invergowrie, , , Errol, St Madoes, Perth City Centre and terminating at Perth Royal Infirmary.  Service X53 will complement the 16 service providing a service twice per hour from Invergowrie to Dundee via the Technology Park, Ninewells Hospital and Perth Road.  Evening and Sunday service timetable to be confirmed.  The 16B to and from Menzieshill High School will no longer be required, but a separate school service will be provided by Perth & Kinross Council.  Service revised to be operated by Stagecoach in Perth.

Xplore Dundee Service 17S (Whitfield – St Paul’s Academy)  Afternoon times vary, depending on the day of week, in line with new Dundee City school hours.

Xplore Dundee Service 18 (Kirkton – City Centre)  Monday – Friday – no changes to this service.  Saturday – one extra journey at 05.40 from Courthouse Square to Asda Kirkton, is added to the timetable (this direction only).  Sunday – major changes during the daytime, as the service will no longer work with Services 32/33 to Fintry, but will still do so during the evening. The first Sunday bus that leaves Kirkton then continuing as a 32/33 will be the 17.50 from Kirkton.  As a result, Sunday daytime buses can be boarded at the usual 18 stops, at Courthouse Square and Albert Square, rather than King Street and Nethergate.  The Sunday timetable will change, with buses at 11.00 and 11.15 from Kirkton 2 minutes later, 11.32 1 minute later, then from 11.47 buses will leave 1 minute earlier.  These changes will hopefully enhance reliability during the day on Sundays.

Xplore Dundee Services 22/22A/22B (Ninewells Hospital – Craigowl View)  Running times on this service are now standardised on this route, to run at the same times Mon-Fri (using the basic Mon-Thurs current time). This increases the Friday afternoon service to that of the rest of the week i.e. every 7-8 minutes, or 8 buses an hour. Change was postponed from 13th September 2015.  Extra Monday – Friday morning buses from City Centre (Whitehall Street) to Ninewells Hospital at 05.18, 06.08, 06.40, 06.58. These will supplement the main service from Craigowl View.  Extra Monday – Friday morning buses from the City Centre (High Street) to Craigowl View at 06.10, 06.35, 07.00, 07.13, 07.45. These will supplement the main service from Ninewells Hospital.  Changes of 1-2 minutes on many journeys, with afternoon peak buses from Craigowl View running 3-6 minutes later.  Extra Monday – Friday afternoon buses at 18.05 from Craigowl View to City Centre.  Extra Monday – Friday buses at 18.27, 18.42, and 00.03 from Ninewells Hospital to City Centre. The last of these runs Saturdays and Sundays too.  Some other changes to Saturday daytimes too.

NEW SERVICE Xplore Dundee Service 23/23A/23B (St Mary’s – Dryburgh – – Pentland Avenue – Perth Road – City Centre – Strathmartine Road – Woodside – Kirkton Asda)  A new service to replace parts of Services 4, 24, 201 and 203. Service runs hourly off peak with peak buses as 23A direct from City to Lochee and Dryburgh. Service 23B will provide peak buses between Woodside and City Centre.  Service 23 will start from Kirkton, Asda Superstore, via Gillburn Road, Old Glamis Road, Barnes Avenue, Woodside Loop, Graham Street, Clepington Road, Provost Road, Moncur Crescent, Five Ways Circle, Strathmartine Road, Hilltown, Dundee City Centre, Nethergate, Perth Road, Blackness Avenue, Road, Pentland Avenue, City Road, Lochee Town Centre, Foggyley/Clement Park (on journeys towards Kirkton), Dryburgh (Linton Road), Coupar Angus Road (stopping at Camperdown Gate for Camperdown Leisure Park), Timex Brae, Faraday Street, Baird Avenue, Telford Road, Staffa Place, Crematorium, Macalpine Road Shops, then a one-way loop via St Kilda Road, Dalmahoy Drive, and Birkdale Place.  Service 23A will start from Dundee City Centre via West Marketgait, Lochee Road, Logie Street, Lochee Bank Street, Coupar Angus Road, to Dryburgh, Linton Road.  Service 23B will start from Woodside Loop via the 23 route to Dundee City Centre.  You can see a new route map towards the rear of this guide.  Afternoon times vary, depending on the day of week, in line with new Dundee City school hours.

NEW SERVICE Xplore Dundee Service 23S (Dryburgh – Lochee - South Road – Dickson Avenue – Perth Road – new Harris Academy: YELLOW BUS)  New schooldays only service to provide links to the new Harris Academy, which now incorporates Menzieshill High School.  Bus will start from Dryburgh, Linton Road, via Coupar Angus Road, via Lochee By- Pass, South Road, Arran Drive, Charleston Drive, Dickson Avenue, Glamis Road, Perth Road, to the new Harris Academy.  The bus will leave from Dryburgh at 08.10, and return from Harris at 15.45 (Mon- Wed) or 14.55 (Thur-Fri) with new Dundee City school hours.  You can see a new route map on the back page of this guide.

Xplore Dundee Service 24 (The Stack – City Centre)  Service withdrawn and replaced by Service 23 to Woodside, which will also provide an off-peak cross-city link to Lochee.  At the time of going to press, Clepington Road (between Old Glamis Road and Kings Cross Circle) would only be served by the 14. Service 202 will provide an alternative service to The Glens area, which will also assist passengers. Those travelling to Kings Cross Hospital can use Services 1A/1B and 22 instead. However, this may well change in the run-up to these service changes. Please keep an eye on local media.

NEW SERVICE Xplore Dundee Service 27 (Douglas – Mid Craigie – City Centre – Kilberry Street – Kingsway West Retail Park – Village)  A new hourly service to replace parts of Services 4, 24, 201 and 203.  Service 27 will start from Douglas (one-way loop via Ballindean Road, Balunie Avenue, Baldovie Road, Balunie Drive, Douglas Road), then Asda Milton, Longtown Street, Pitarlie Road, Road, Albert Street, Lower Princes Street, Blackscroft, Dundee City Centre, Hilltown, Constitution Street, Drummond Street, Stirling Park, Byron Street, Loons Road, Cobden Street, Kilberry Street, Loons Road, Alpin Road, Harefield Road, Kings Cross Road, Kingsway West Retail Park, Macalpine Road, then a one-way loop via Turnberry Avenue, Dalmahoy Drive, Birkdale Place, and Macalpine Road.  You can see a new route map towards the rear of this guide.  Afternoon times vary, depending on the day of week, in line with new Dundee City school hours.

NEW SERVICE Xplore Dundee Service 27S (Kilberry Street – Harefield Road – Liff Road – Tullideph Road – Blackness Avenue - new Harris Academy: GREEN BUS)  New schooldays only service to provide links to the new Harris Academy, which now incorporates Menzieshill High School.  The bus will commence from Kilberry Street (opposite Fullarton Street), via Lawside Road, Byron Street, Alpin Road, Strathmore Avenue, Harefield Road, Liff Road, Buttars Loan, South Road, Arran Drive, Charleston Drive, Ancrum Road, Tullideph Road, City Road, Pentland Avenue, Balgay Road, Blackness Avenue, Perth Road, to the new Harris Academy.  The bus will leave from Kilberry Street at 08.00, and return from Harris at 15.45 (Mon-Wed) or 14.55 (Thur-Fri) with new Dundee City school hours.  You can see a new route map on the back page of this guide.

Xplore Dundee Service 28/29 (Douglas – Charleston/Ninewells Hospital)  Some Monday - Friday timetable changes in the morning peak on these services; 07.00 29 Whitehall Street – Ninewells withdrawn, but an extra 29 will run at 07.25 from Whitehall Street – Ninewells. 09.25 28 Lochee Bank Street – Asda Myrekirk withdrawn, but replaced by changes to other morning peak buses. 08.25 28 Douglas – Asda Myrekirk now runs 5 minutes later. 08.33 29 Douglas - Ninewells now runs 5 minutes later. 08.48 29 Douglas – Ninewells now runs 3 minutes earlier. New 08.53 29 Douglas – Ninewells Hospital additional journey. 07.54 29 Asda Myrekirk – Douglas now runs 3 minutes later.  In the early evenings on Monday – Friday and Saturdays, extra buses are being added to the timetable at 18.51 28 from Asda Myrekirk to Douglas, and 19.45 28 from Douglas to City Centre. As a result, the 19.01 Asda Myrekirk to City Centre is withdrawn.  Other minor timetable changes.

NEW SERVICE Xplore Dundee Service 28S (Charleston, Balgarthno Terrace – Tullideph Road – Hawkhill - new Harris Academy: BLUE BUS)  New schooldays only service to provide links to the new Harris Academy, which now incorporates Menzieshill High School.  The bus will start from Charleston, Balgarthno Terrace terminus, via Brownhill Road, Buttars Loan, South Road, Arran Drive, Charleston Drive, Ancrum Road, Tullideph Road, City Road, Milnbank Road, Brook Street, Hawkhill, Perth Road , to the new Harris Academy.  The bus will leave from Balgarthno Terrace at 08.05, and return from Harris at 15.45 (Mon-Wed) or 14.55 (Thur-Fri) with new Dundee City school hours.  You can see a new route map on the back page of this guide.

NEW SERVICE Xplore Dundee Service 29S (Charleston, Dunholm Road – – Elmwood Road – Ninewells Avenue - new Harris Academy: RED BUS  New schooldays only service to provide links to the new Harris Academy, which now incorporates Menzieshill High School.  The bus will start from Charleston, Dunholm Road terminus, via Myrekirk Road, South Road, Avenue, Spey Drive, Charleston Drive, Elmwood Road, Glamis Road, Ninewells Avenue, Perth Road, to the new Harris Academy:  The bus will leave from Dunholm Road at 08.10, and return from Harris at 15.45 (Mon-Wed) or 14.55 (Thur-Fri) with new Dundee City school hours.  You can see a new route map on the back page of this guide.

Xplore Dundee Service 30/31/51 (Ninewells Hospital – Piper Dam)  As at Monday 4th July, no changes planned, but further details awaited.  The service is under review by Angus Council and Dundee City Council, following the withdrawal of inter-worked Service 205.

Xplore Dundee Service 32/32A/33 (City Centre – Fintry)  Monday – Friday – only change is an extra bus at 08.57 on Service 32, from Crichton Street to Fintry.  Sunday – major changes during the daytime, as the service will no longer work with Services 18 to Kirkton, but will still do so during the evening. The first Sunday bus that leaves Fintry then continuing as a 18 will be the 18.05 (33) or 18.36 (32).  As a result, Sunday daytime buses can be boarded at the usual 32/33 stops, at King Street and Seagate.  The Sunday timetable will change, with some times changed by a few minutes.  These changes will hopefully enhance reliability during the day on Sundays.

Xplore Dundee/Stagecoach Strathtay Service 36/36C/236 (Barns of – City Centre)  Xplore Dundee 09.00 (Monday – Saturday) journey from City Centre is withdrawn. A replacement is operated within 30 minutes on Service 236.  Monday to Saturday main service 236 is now operated by Moffat & Williamson on behalf of Dundee City Council.  Similar level of service to now, but the afternoon peak 36 services will all now display Service 236.  There are changes to some buses during weekday peak periods, with some 236 services running up to five minutes earlier or later.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 39 (Dundee – Arbroath, Warddykes)  Service will extend from Dundee City Centre via Tay Road Bridge, Newport, Wormit and Gauldry, as Services 39/39A.  Some journeys will still serve Balmerino.

Stagecoach Strathtay 42/42A/42B (Dundee – Tayport – Cupar/St Andrews)  Between Dundee and Tayport, the current 20 minute frequency improved to every 15 minutes.  One journey per hour would continue to extend beyond Tayport to Leuchars and St Andrews with peak time journeys via Strathkinness as now (service 42B).  The hourly journey currently between Dundee, Tayport and Cupar would be replaced by an improved express service X53/X54 (see below).  Although through journeys would no longer be possible between Tayport and Cupar the number of such journeys made is small. It is still be possible to connect between services at either St Michaels or at Guardbridge.  Evening and Sunday service provision will be improved with an hourly service all evening with later journeys at 22.55 and 00.10 and an hourly Sunday service.  Service revised to be operated by Stagecoach Fife’s St Andrews depot.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 57 (Dundee – Perth)  No changes are planned to these services.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 59 (Blairgowrie – Dundee)  The current Monday to Friday journeys at 09.21 and 15.42 from Piperdam to Dundee, and the 08.50 and 15.10 from Dundee to Piperdam would be withdrawn due to the low usage being made of them.  An additional 08.55 departure from Blairgowrie will replace the 09.21 from Muirhead to Dundee, from all stops except the Piper Dam turning circle. Passengers from Piper Dam on this journey should board at the crossroads.

Stagecoach Strathtay Services 73/73A/73B (Ninewells Hospital – Arbroath)  After having had changes made to this service on Monday 4th July 2016, there are no further changes planned for this service.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 75 (Dundee – Ethiebeaton Park)  Small changes to this service, with an extra evening journey added to the timetable.  Some buses will now run as Service 75C via Strathern Road for Gardyne Campus.

Stagecoach Strathtay Services 77/77B (Gauldry – Kingoodie)  Service withdrawn.  Between Gauldry or Wormit and Dundee, service is replaced by Service 39/39A.  Between Kingoodie or Invergowrie and Dundee, service is replaced by Service X53.

TeeJay Travel Services 78A-79C (Monikie Circular)  No changes are planned to these services.

J P Coaches Service 81 (Carnoustie – Forfar)  No changes are planned to these services.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 88 ( – Whitfield)  Service withdrawn, as a result of Stagecoach Strathtay closing their Dundee depot.  The service will now be operated by Moffat & Williamson.  The full timetable will be confirmed in the near future.

Moffat & Williamson Services 92C/92D (St Andrews Community Hospital – Dundee City Centre, evenings)  No changes are planned to these services.

Stagecoach Fife Service 99-99D/N99 (Dundee – St Andrews)  No changes are planned to these services.

Xplore Dundee Services 137, 137A, 138, 139 (Auchterhouse, Bridgefoot and Murroes areas)  No changes are planned to these services, at this time.  Angus Council are tendering these services in the near future, with a view to commencing new timetables in 2017. Xplore Dundee Services 198, 199, GF1, MD1-MD11 series (Fife Schoolday Services)  No changes are planned to these services.

Xplore Dundee Service 201 (Douglas – Kingsway West Retail Park)  Service withdrawn, but see new Services 23/23A/23B and 27.

Xplore Dundee Service 202 (City Centre – Asda Kirkton)  Now operated by Stagecoach Strathtay, with no changes planned to route or times.

Xplore Dundee Service 203 (City Centre – St Mary’s)  Service withdrawn, but see new Services 23/23A/23B and 27.  At the time of going to press, Scott Street and Glenagnes Road were not to be served by buses. However, this may well change in the run-up to these service changes. Please keep an eye on local media.

Xplore Dundee Service 204 / 204A (City Centre – Ninewells Hospital)  Service 204A (via Invergowrie Drive) is now operated by Stagecoach Strathtay, on an improved timetable running hourly, renumbered as Service 204.  At the time of going to press, Peddie Street, Scott Street and Glenagnes Road were not to be served by buses. However, this may well change in the run-up to these service changes. Please keep an eye on local media.

Xplore Dundee Service 205 (Ninewells Hospital – Asda Myrekirk)  Service withdrawn.  At the time of going to press, there was no replacement planned (also see 30/31/51). However, this may well change in the run-up to these service changes. Please keep an eye on local media.

Xplore Dundee Service 206 (West Ferry – Ethiebeaton Park)  Now operated by Stagecoach Strathtay, with no changes planned to route or times.

Xplore Dundee Service 208 (Barns of Claverhouse – City Centre)  Service withdrawn but see new Services 23/23A/26B, 36 and 236.  At the time of going to press, Fleming Gardens and Hindmarsh Avenue were not to be served by buses. However, this may well change in the run-up to these service changes. Please keep an eye on local media.

Fishers Tours Scottish Express Services 222-266 (various day out services)  No changes are planned to these services.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 236 (Barns of Claverhouse – City Centre)  See entry under Service 36.

JP Coaches Service 320 (Kirriemuir – Douglasfield Leisure Park)  No changes are planned to these services.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service 501 (Arbroath Road/Monymusk Park – St Paul’s Academy)  Service will now be operated by Xplore Dundee as Service 14S.

National Express Coaches Services 538, 590, 592 (Aberdeen – Glasgow – Coventry or London)  No changes are planned to these services.

Nevis Coach Hire Airport Shuttle (City Centre – Dundee Airport)  No changes are planned to these services.

Fishers Tours Services A3, A15, A17, A30, A34, A35, A37 to A43, F14 (Dundee Mid Craigie Road – Angus School Services)  No changes are planned to these services.

Xplore Dundee Services AS1, AS2, AS3, AS4 (Asda Milton Free Bus Services)  No changes are planned to these services.

Citylink/Megabus/Parks of Hamilton Services G92, M8, M9, M11, M90, M91, M92 (Aberdeen – Glasgow/Edinburgh – M11 to London)  No changes are planned to these services.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service X7 (Perth Royal Infirmary – Aberdeen)  After having had changes made to this service on Monday 4th July 2016, there are no further changes planned for this service.

Stagecoach Strathtay Service X42 (Ninewells Hospital – Kirkcaldy) NEW Stagecoach Express City Connect Service X53 (Kingoodie - Kirkcaldy)  Service X42 would be replaced by a new Service X53.  Operating hourly over the same route as the X42 to Dundee city centre additional stopping points would be introduced at Cupar for the oats factory to allow access to employment opportunities and at Drumoig to allow travel to and from Cupar.  Between Dundee City Centre and Ninewells Hospital, the service will be revised to serve University and then on to the Technology Park, Invergowrie and Kingoodie, replacing the 77 in the west of the City.  Several commuter trips will also serve Letham Road End to maintain a link at peak times to Dundee, Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy. Letham continues to be served by the 64 service every hour.  A much improved hourly evening service will also be introduced as well as a two hourly Sunday service between Dundee and Kirkcaldy.  Service revised to be operated by Stagecoach Fife’s Glenrothes depot.  The service will be operated by a fleet of Express City Connect single deckers offering air conditioning, WiFi and leather seats.

Stagecoach Fife Express City Connect Service X54 (Dundee – Edinburgh)  Services will be revised to operate via Cupar. Coaches are rerouted from the New Inn Roundabout via the A914 to Cupar and then again via the A914 to Dundee City Centre.  This would introduce new stops at Kettlebridge, Balmalcolm, Pitessie, Cupar Knox Gardens, Cupar railway station, Cupar East Road, Dairsie, Balmullo, St Michaels, Drumoig and Forgan Roundabout. For Kettlebridge, Balmalcolm and Pitessie this would give them a direct bus to Dundee and a doubling of frequency to Edinburgh, which Cupar and Dairsie would also benefit from.  Cupar will then benefit from a 30 minute express service to and from Dundee, all of which will serve the City Centre, and not just the bus station.  The existing X54 route from New Inn Roundabout via A92 through Freuchie, Ladybank, then A92, Letham, A92, Newport to Tay Bridge would no longer be served.  For Freuchie and Letham the new X53 will continue to provide links to Dundee and in addition to this local services 64/A and 66 will continue to offer links to Glenrothes.  Letham will continue to be served – see X53 (above) and existing services 64/64A.  Newport will be served by revised Stagecoach Strathtay services 39/39A (see below).
