BIG BUSINESS BlackBerry Torch 9800 Overview The latest edition from BlackBerry is the Torch, off ering a fantastic inter- face that BlackBerry is famous for. This device is intuitive and enables the user to have full control over the expansive functions; making this device as much “tool” as “toy.” The average consumer will fi nd the Torch’s web browser, apps and updated media player fun and exciting, but if productivity is what you need from your device— the 9800 is all business; using the BlackBerry Enterprise ser- ver emails are sent safely and securely. Unique attributes What sets this device apart is the slide out keypad with extremely well-spaced keys. The keypad actually makes it a pleasure to compose lengthy and detailed emails. When browsing the web or navigating through other features on the phone, the keyboard slides neatly behind the touch screen. Unique to RIM devi- ces, there is BlackBerry Messenger, a chat application that allows users to stay in touch with other BlackBerry users, share fi les like pictures and videos, as well as create groups where multiple contacts can view and participate in the same conversations.

RAPID SPEED HTC Desire Z Overview It’s a little heavier to hold than most smartphones, but that is quickly justi- fi ed when introduced to the impressive speed at which the Desire Z works. App- lications can run simultaneously and with a web browsing speed of 14.4 mega- bits per second, the Desire Z is the fi rst smartphone to operate this fast in Cana- da; it’s most noticeable when streaming television from applications like Bell TV. You can also take advantage of these speeds from devices aside from your smartphone with the Mobile Hotspot feature. It allows users to connect up to eight other wireless devices to the Desire Z as it acts the modem. The Desire fea- tures both a touch screen display and slide out keyboard; meaning the user that is more confi dent with tactile texting can comfortably punch out longer texts and emails.

Unique attributes With the new HTCSense.com service, users can manage their mobile phone ex- perience from their HTC phone or personal computer. For example, it is easy to locate a missing phone by using a PC to trigger the handset to ring loudly; even if it is set to silent. The smartphone can also be tracked and located via PC. If the phone has been lost or stolen, users can remotely lock it; forward calls and texts to another phone or send a message to the missing device. If it cannot be retrieved, the user has the ability to wipe all data from the phone without even touching it.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER Nokia N8

Overview Lightweight and great to touch, the N8 off ers a simple but capable in- terface in the Symbian operating system. Out of the box, the device is relatively basic but when the user sets up an Ovi account, a vast catalogue of useful apps is available. The screen is easy on the eyes and is well suited for users looking to view On Demand Web TV. The touch screen is responsive although without a slide out keypad, composing lengthy emails can be a bit of chore for fans of the tactile experience.

Unique attributes The piece d’resistance of the N8 is its camera; boasting 12 megapixels with a Carl Zeiss lens equipped with a Xenon fl ash—this is not the average camera phone. Also able to shoot brilliant video in 720p High Defi nition, the N8 comes with simple to use but fully capable video and photo editing applications. Helping to maximize the high defi nition capabilities, this device comes equipped with an HDMI out port so that you can connect to HD external displays and enjoy loss- less quality.
