LAST GAME Saturday, October 19, 2019 – Dallas 4, Flyers 1 at Wells Fargo Center: Sean Couturier put the Flyers on the board in the first minute of the game, but Ben Bishop stopped the next 38 shots he saw to anchor Dallas’s 4-1 win. The Stars got goals from Roope Hintz and Esa Lindell in the first, one from Corey Perry early in the third, and then a late empty-netter from Miro Heiskanen. Carter Hart stopped 12 of 15 shots in absorbing the loss. Stars of the Game: 1 – Corey Perry; 2 – Roope Hintz; 3 – Ben Bishop.

NOTABLES The Flyers had 39 shots on goal and now have a total of 91 shots on goal in the last two games. They had 64 total attempts – 39 on goal, 16 that were blocked and nine that missed.

Sean Couturier scored 43 seconds into the game. It was the first Flyers goal scored in the first minute of a game since November 3, 2018 when Nolan Patrick scored 37 seconds into the game at San Jose. The last time the Flyers did it at home was November 28, 2017 also against San Jose, a game that the Flyers lost 3-1.

James van Riemsdyk led the Flyers with nine shots on goal. It was his second consecutive nine-shot game. Per the NHL stats department, van Riemsdyk’s last two games mark just the 13th occasion in Flyers history that a player has had 18 or more shots in the span of consecutive games. The last time was during the 2008-09 season, when Jeff Carter had 10 shots on Jan. 3 at LAK and eight shots on Jan. 6 at WSH.

Claude Giroux had seven shots on goal and was 14-for-17 (82.4 pct) on faceoffs.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT The Flyers are 56.7 percent on faceoffs as a team this season, which leads the league.

Claude Giroux is 69.3 percent on faceoffs this season (61 for 88) and Sean Couturier is 67.8 percent (61 for 90). They are first and second in the league, respectively, among all players who have taken 80 or more faceoffs.

The Flyers last night recalled forwards Joel Farabee and Mikhail Vorobyev from their affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Farabee is available to become the third Flyer this season to make his NHL debut, joining Carsen Twarynski and Connor Bunnaman, who were both on the season-opening roster but have since been sent to Lehigh Valley. Vorobyev made his debut for the Flyers last season and appeared in 15 games, picking up a goal and an assist.

The Flyers are in the midst of six consecutive games, and seven out of the first eight, against Western Conference opponents. Their win over New Jersey was their only Eastern Conference matchup so far. After this stretch, the Flyers will play four in a row within the Metropolitan Division and a total of 13 in a row against the East. They won’t see another Western Conference team until they host Calgary on November 23.

Although the Flyers are one of just three teams in the NHL to have only played six games to this point, they have scored the fewest goals in the NHL this season at 15. They scored eight of those 15 goals in the first two games of the year, and have scored a total of seven in their current four-game winless streak.

The Flyers are averaging 36.2 shots per game so far this season, which is third most in the league, and their 26.0 shots allowed per game are the fewest allowed on average. Their plus-10.2 shot differential is the widest margin in the league.

Travis Konecny started a season with a four-game point streak that came to an end Wednesday in Edmonton. Konecny is the second Flyer in as many years to open the season with a four-game scoring streak after Claude Giroux did it last year, but after starting the season at the age of 22 years, 207 days, Konecny became the fourth-youngest Flyer to open a season with a scoring streak of four games or more and the youngest since Eric Lindros started the 1995-96 season with a 12-game scoring streak that started at the age of 22 years, 247 days.

Eric Lindros – 1992-93, 5gm, 4-3-7, age 19-221 Ken Linseman – 1979-80, 6gm, 1-6-7, age 21-061 Ron Flockhart – 1982-83, 4gm, 3-3-6, age 21-362 Travis Konecny – 2019-20, 4gm, 3-3-6, age 22-207 Eric Lindros – 1995-96, 12gm, 11-11-22, age 22-221 Behn Wilson – 1981-82, 7gm, 3-6-9, age 22-294 Len Hachborn – 1984-85, 4gm, 0-5-5, age 23-037 Rod Brind’Amour – 1993-94, 10gm, 5-7-12, age 23-057 Brian Propp – 1982-83, 4gm, 3-4-7, age 23-234 *age is date of start of streak

In addition to setting the franchise record for youngest goalie to record a shutout last Wednesday, Carter Hart joined a list of just eight goaltenders to have a shutout in a Flyers uniform before their 23rd birthday; his shutout was only the 10th to fit that category, four of which came in the franchise’s first year. The 10 youngest shutout performances have been covered by eight different goaltenders.

Hart already has appeared in more games under the age of 21 than any other Flyers goalie. He started this season at the age of 21 years, 50 days; every game he plays this season will add to his total games played as the youngest regular goalie in team history. The previous youngest goalie to appear in more than two games for the team was Dominic Roussel, who played 17 games in the 1991-92 season starting at the age of 21 years, 237 days.

Claude Giroux enters his eighth season as Flyers . He has served in the role for 541 games, which is second-most in franchise history to Bob Clarke’s 695. Clarke’s tenure was split into two time periods; he was captain for 542 games from 1972-79 and then relinquished the role to become a playing assistant coach. He reassumed the captaincy for in 1982 and served an additional 153 games until his retirement following the 1984 season. Giroux will match Clarke’s total from his first stretch as captain with his game tonight. Giroux has appeared in 541 of a possible 546 games since taking over the captaincy in January of 2013 at the start of the shortened 2012-13 season.

The first period came & went without a goal from either team. Then, 3:38 into the second Paul Stastny got his third power-play goal of the year after a quick pass from Cody Glass found his stick. With Vegas on the penalty kill in the final two minutes of the third, Tristan Jarry abandoned his net to give his team the two-man advantage. NOTES FOR TONIGHT Last Season Against The Flyers Vegas finished the 2018-19 season going 1-1-0 against the Philadelphia Flyers, with the road team capturing the victories in both contests. The two teams opened the season in Las Vegas & the Flyers won 5-2 (Oct. 4). Nine days later, Vegas captured its first shutout of the season, defeating the Flyers 1-0 in Philadelphia (Oct. 13). Cody Eakin scored the game-winning goal in the Golden Knights lone victory. The all-time series is tied at 2-2-0.

Century Mark The Golden Knights captured their 100th victory as a franchise with a 3-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, giving Vegas a cumulative record of 100-59-14. It took the organization 173 regular-season games to reach the century mark as they became the fourth franchise in NHL history to achieve the feat in less than 200 games. The only team to do it quicker than the Golden Knights was the original Ottawa Senators, who reached the mark in 165 games. The Montreal Canadiens (183 GP) & Toronto Maple Leafs (190 GP) also achieved the feat in less than 200 games.

Atop The Pacific Vegas has held a top-three position in the Pacific Division for 79% of their time in the League (312 of 392 days of regular-season play). Since divisions were first introduced in 1926-27, only two NHL franchises have finished among the top three in their division in at least each of their first three seasons: the New York Rangers (American Division; 1926-27) & St. Louis Blues (West Division; 1967-68).

Rookie Impacts Cody Glass, the Golden Knights’ first-ever selection in the NHL Draft (No. 6 in 2017), scored in his League debut. At 20 years, 184 days, the Winnipeg, MB native became the youngest player to score a goal for the club while also becoming the first player to appear in a regular-season contest with the franchise after being drafted by them. On the season, he has recorded six points (2G, 4A) in nine games. Defenseman Nic Hague has also made his presence felt, recording his first career points, assists, in back-to-back games (Oct. 12-13). Defenseman Jake Bischoff made his NHL debut at Pittsburgh (Oct. 19) & finished the game with plus-1 rating.

Stone Age Vegas forward Mark Stone turned in back-to-back-to-back multi-point games to start the 2019-20 season (Oct. 2-8). It was the first time in his career that he recorded multiple points in three straight games to start a season & only the fourth time in his career he has had at least two points in three consecutive games. He recorded another multi-point game against Calgary (Oct. 12) & leads the Golden Knights with 12 points (6G, 6A). He also recorded his 200th career assist against Ottawa (Oct. 17). Since joining the Golden Knights, the Winnipeg, MB native has tallied 23 points (11G, 12A) in 27 regular-season games. He also finished with 12 points (6G, 6A) in seven postseason games during the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Reaves Finishing Checks After leading the league in hits during the 2018-19 season, Vegas forward Ryan Reaves is picking up where he left off to start the 2019-20 season. Through nine games, the Winnipeg, MB native has recorded 47 hits, which leads the league. He tallied nine hits against San Jose (Oct. 4), which matched the most he's recorded while wearing a VGK sweater.
