Calyx Is a Group 2 Juvenile Winning Son of Kingman, a Highly Rated Son of Invincible Spirit Calyx Calyx is a Group 2 juvenile winning son of Kingman, a highly rated son of Invincible Spirit. He is already proving a leading young sire in England. Kingman is from the immediate family of sires OASIS DREAM and BEAT HOLLOW. Their presence in mares’ pedigrees will create desirable line breeding with Calyx. Oasis Dream is the sire of CAPTAIN GERRARD, POWER and NZ based sire SHOWCASING, whose daughters look particularly appealing with Calyx. Not only is SHOWCASING by Oasis Dream (above), but his damsire ZAFONIC is a brother to Kingman’s damsire Zamindar. Thus his daughters create a strong cluster of common ancestors in a mating with Calyx. Other sources of Zafonic in mares are IFFRAAJ, TRADE FAIR and XAAR. Calyx’s dam is out of a half sister to DISTANT MUSIC and is also a paternal granddaughter of Distant Music’s sire, Distant View. Distant Music’s daughters create a Rasmussen Factor pattern in a mating with Calyx. Calyx’s damsire Observatory is from the same family as STORM BIRD. He is present in mares via descendants of Storm Cat such as SHAMARDAL, TALE OF THE CAT, HIGH YIELD, STATUE OF LIBERTY, VAN NISTELROOY, GIANT’S CAUSEWAY, CATRAIL, HENNESSY (and descendants JOHANNESBURG & SCAT DADDY). Other Storm Bird sources are BLUEBIRD, DOLPHIN STREET and MUKADDAMAH. To add further weight to the compatibility of this line, Kingman has already produced Group winners by Giant’s Causeway, High Yield and Statue of Liberty. Gone West, Round Table and Atan in Calyx’s pedigree are ALOPE family members. More ROUND TABLE (damsire of SIR TRISTRAM), DEEP IMPACT, KNOWN FACT, JOHANNESBURG, TALE OF THE CAT, PULPIT, DOUTELLE, FOXLAW, ALCIDE, MUKDDAAM, SONG OF TARA and POMPEII COURT (damsire of STARCRAFT and O’REILLY) are other family members to seek. As Round Table (above) can be sourced via SIR TRISTRAM, daughters of his descendants such as LONHRO, ZABEEL, SAVABEEL, MARAUDING, OCTAGONAL, PIERRO, GROSVENOR, KAAPSTAD, TIERCE, MILITARY PLUME and IMPERIAL PRINCE are appealing. Danzig and two lines to Rockefella in Calyx are LADY SUSAN family members. The other member of this family to work very well with these two is BLETCHINGLY, whose sons include CANNY LAD and HURRICANE SKY. More DANZIG has worked very well with the Invincible Spirit line. Indeed Kingman has already produced a Group winner by Danzig’s son ANABAA. Other sons of Danzig to seek in mares include LURE, LANGFUHR, CAPE CROSS, WAR CHANT, SNAADEE, PINE BLUFF, AD VALOREM, BELONG TO ME, BIANCONI, CHIEF’S CROWN, DESERT SUN, GOLDEN SNAKE, HARD SPUN, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, MAROOF, MISTER C, KHELEYF, ORPEN and PERUGINO (and son TESTA ROSSA). Danzig’s most prolific son in Australia, DANEHILL is also highly sought for Calyx. His son DYLAN THOMAS is damsire of Kingman’s Group 1 winner Persian King and DANEHILL DANCER’s daughters have produced two Group winners by Kingman. Nijinsky II (twice) and The Minstrel in Calyx are members of the very influential TORPENHOW family and would benefit from the addition of other members REDOUTE’S CHOICE, MANHATTAN RAIN, RUBICK, NIAGARA, AL MAHER, MASTERCLASS, NEW REGENT, SPINNING WORLD, DOMESDAY, EL GRAN SENOR, TRY MY BEST (sire of LAST TYCOON), FAR NORTH, UMATILLA, XAAR, HURRICANE SKY, FREE AMERICA, GOOD JOURNEY, DR. JOHNSON, and FRIENDLY RELATIONS. REDOUTE’S CHOICE looks particularly appealing, as he is a son of Danehill, also carries Bletchingly and is a TORPENHOW family member (see paragraphs above). Roberto is present in Calyx via daughter, Stellaria. To create a sex balanced duplication, mares carrying sons AT TALAQ or RED RANSOM create this pattern. Red Ransom’s sons such as ALL AMERICAN, DUPORTH, DOMESDAY, SRI PEKAN, CHARGE FORWARD and BROCCO will also suit. Rainbow Quest on Calyx’s third remove is from the immediate family of SCENIC and WARNING. Warning is sire of DIKTAT (sire of DREAM AHEAD), CHARNWOOD FOREST and PICCOLO. Sex balancing Quest For Fame is another option which can be achieved by seeking his son VISCOUNT in mares’ pedigrees. .

The lead-up to the race had been a dramatic one for both horse and trainer. While Impending=s participation was in doubt after he threw a shoe the day before the race and pricked his hoof, Beadman watched the race from home after having spent two days in hospital with fluid around his heart. It is likely that watching the Stradbroke got his heart racing. "The lounge chair copped a flogging when I watched the Stradbroke," Beadman told Racenet.com.au. "But [stable employee Brett Killion] deserves all the accolades. The horse shifted a plate yesterday and pricked himself and [Killion] worked overtime on him all last night.
