August 3rd Sara Evans with special Guest Morgan Frazier – 7:30pm Tickets: $20 General Admission $35 Reserved Sometimes the best way for an artist to move forward is to take time to be still. There’s nothing that feeds a creative soul like taking time to soak up life and marinate in the moments that matter. Sara Evans embraced that philosophy, and now, six years after her last studio album, she’s back with Stronger, a landmark record filled with the kind of gutsy explorations on life and love that have made Evans one of the most compelling female vocalists of her generation. August 4th Creed – 7:30pm Tickets: $20 to $45 Reserved Since their formation in 1995, Tallahassee natives Scott Stapp (vocals), Mark Tremonti (guitar), Brian Marshall (bass) and Scott Phillips (drums), better known as Creed, have gone on to be one of the most successful bands in rock history; selling close to thirty-five million albums and millions of concert tickets. The band’s debut, My Own Prison, was released in 1997 and has sold over six million copies in the U.S. The follow-up, 1999’s Human Clay, has been certified Diamond for sales in excess of 11 million copies. The band’s third studio album, Weathered, was released in 2001 and tied The Beatles Anthology, for the most consecutive weeks at Number One on Billboard’s Top 200 chart (eight weeks since the beginning of the SoundScan era (1991). In November 2004, Creed’s Greatest Hits was released, and was certified double platinum. The band’s most recent studio album, 2009’s Full Circle, featured the top 10 rock radio hit “Overcome.” The songwriting team of Stapp and Tremonti are considered one of the most prolific in rock history. The band was voted Favorite Group in 2003 on the People’s Choice Awards and has won numerous American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and others including the Grammy Award for best Rock Song in 2001 for “With Arms Wide Open.” For more information visit www.creed.com. Throughout the competition the same judging criteria are used to ensure a fair competition in each level. There are five different aspects the judges use to decide the winner: marketability, originality of performance, vocal and instrumental abilities, stage presence, and overall charisma. Additional points can be awarded if the contestants perform original music. If you love country music, then this is your FREE ticket to hours of pure talent and to see who will represent Washington heading toward the finals! August 6th Chris Young – 7:30pm Tickets: $20-$35 Reserved Ever since Chris Young won the country music competition – Nashville Star, he has been climbing charts and taking the country music world by storm. He’s had an amazing 5 consecutive number one chart topping hits to his name like – “Gettin’ You Home, The Man I Want to Be, and You.” “When an artist looks back on his or her own career, there are always moments he or she can point to where there was a shift to another level. Those defining moments tend to be easy to spot with the benefit of hindsight but more difficult to see without the passage of time. Yet Chris Young has a sense that something big is happening. “I really do believe in timing,” says Young. “Everybody has a different point in their career when things start to come together and click, “when it’s your time.” With the release of his third studio album, NEON, Chris Young leaves no doubt. Now is his time. How’s this for everything clicking – NEON’s first single, “Tomorrow,” has also hit #1, from his impressive seven songs on the album co‐written by Young, this album is the fastest‐rising hit of his career. It hit the Top 20 in only six weeks and earned first week sales in excess of 30,000 downloads as Chris celebrated his highest opening sales number ever for a debut single! • TREMONTI Product Text Ex
TREMONTI Marching In Time Product Text EN PRODUCT TEXT: Renowned songwriter, Grammy Award winner and three-time Guitar World “Guitarist of the Year”/recent “Guitarist of the Decade” title recipient Mark Tremonti is no stranger to storytelling. Throughout his time with massive Bands like Alter Bridge and Creed – and most-recently his solo band, TREMONTI – he has never strayed from his love of writing memorable songs with strong inspiration at their core. With their upcoming fifth album, Marching In Time, the Band looks to Build upon this trend while exploring their love for searing heavy music, drawing from current events throughout the last year to form the basis of each colossal track. While TREMONTI’s previous album – the critically acclaimed, worldwide-charting A Dying Machine (2018) – was an overall concept album with darker sentiments and story, Marching In Time carries a different vibe altogether. Featuring his signature execution of blistering, laser-precision guitar work and a reverberating, rhythmic metallic attack, the alBum emerges as an upBeat offering inviting the listener on 12 individual journeys. From the driving drum Beat of opener “A World Away” to the epic closer “Marching In Time,” the new alBum is a reflective look at the world around us today. The Band’s unmatched musicianship permeates through the album – showcased on tracks like “Thrown Further,” “In One Piece” and the thought-provoking “Would You Kill” – while the Band displays their softer side on the pensive tracks “The Last One Of Us” and “Not Afraid to Lose.” The title track, “Marching In Time,” hits a personal note, telling the story of a father having a child during a global pandemic and how he prepares for life during that time – something Mark Tremonti recently experienced in his own life.

  • Music, Corporate Power, and Unending War
03Scherzinger.qxd 5/20/2005 1:43 PM Page 23 MUSIC, CORPORATE POWER, AND UNENDING WAR Martin Scherzinger The triumph of advertising in the culture industry is that consumers feel compelled to buy and use its products even though they see through it. —Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno INTRODUCTION: IN QUEST OF A NEWER MUSICOLOGY Sixty years after its original publication, Max Horkheimer and Theo- dor W. Adorno’s Dialektic der Aufklärung resonates uncannily with our times. The central motifs of their bleak and horrifying diagnosis of the culture industry ring as true today as ever. While contemporary critics mostly regard Horkheimer and Adorno’s analysis of audience demand and reception dynamics as antiquated, this essay argues for the continued relevance of their indictment of culture under the (oppressive) authority of monopoly capital. In particular, the essay traces an emergent Schulterschluss between commercial and political power, with a special interest in the involvement of the music indus- try and the media conglomerates. This is not to say that contem- porary America operates under identical rules and constraints as the America of the 1940s. It does not. Nor is it to argue that capitalist America essentially approximates fascism, as Horkheimer and Adorno sometimes imply. The opening arguments of “The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception,” for example, are predicated on this fundamental similarity: “Even the aesthetic activities of political opposites are one in their enthusiastic obedience to the rhythm of the iron system. The decorative industrial management of buildings and exhibition centers in authoritarian countries are much the same as anywhere else” (1997, 120).

  • You Say Goodbye, I Say Tony & Kris Together Again for the First Time
July 17, 2017, Issue 559 Together Again For The First Time There’s more to the new WWYZ/Hartford morning pairing than the typical late career format jump. Many years ago, Cory Myers met a friend at the suburban Hartford nightclub Fantasia. While there, she had a conversation with the booth deejay about her interest in radio. Myers spent a year-and-a-half as an intern for that deejay, Damon Scott, at Hot AC WTIC-FM before mov- ing on to a career that culminated in her now two-decade run at crosstown Country WWYZ. Last month, Scott joined Myers in mornings at WWYZ. As for the club, it’s now called Cadillac Ranch. And, yes, they play country. Cory Myers Chemistry Lab: With their history, Scott and Myers have an obvious chemistry that may actually be combustible. “I have a couple of working titles for this story,” jokes Scott. “’The Future of Country Music’ or ‘Two Mete- ors Collide.’” With that, he and Myers are off My Guy: The Curb crew celebrates Dylan Scott’s first No. 1 “My to the races, finishing each other’s sentences Girl” today in Nashville.
