Professor Dietrich Knorr to be Inducted as President Elect of IUFoST August 1, 2014 – Dietrich Knorr has been elected as President Elect of the International Union of Food Science and Technology. Professor emeritus Dr. Dipl.-Ing Knorr will be inducted as President-elect at the General Assembly of the 17th IUFoST World Congress of Food Science and Technology (World Food Congress) in Montreal, Canada, and he will serve as President of IUFoST for its 2016-2018 term. “Professor Knorr has a long association with IUFoST and the organisation will continue to benefit from his pivotal role in the food science and technology profession,” says Professor Pingfan Rao. “As President of the European Federation of Food Science and Technology (EFFoST), Dr. Knorr brought together new partners in industry and government, and he has been outspoken in his promotion both of new science and young . His international perspective will be invaluable to IUFoST as it faces new challenges and opportunities.” Professor Knorr is Professor Emeritus of Technische Universität Berlin and is a member of the IUFoST Governing Council and a Member of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST). His accomplishments have been recognized through numerous awards: he received the EFFoST Lifetime Achievement Award and the ASABE International Food Award in 2013; the IAEF Life Achievement Award in 2011; and the Nicolas Appert Award in 2003. He has received the Marcel Loncin Research Prize of the Institute of Food Technologists the EFFoST Outstanding Research Award, as well as the Alfred-Mehlitz Medaille of the German Association of Food Technologists. Currently serving as the Editor of the Journal Innovative Food Science and Emerging Technologies, Professor Knorr also has published hundreds of scientific papers and supervised approximately 300 Diploma/Master Theses and 75 PhD theses. He holds seven patents and is one of the ISI “highly cited researchers”. Professor Knorr received an Engineering Degree and a PhD in Food and Fermentation Technology from the University of Agriculture in Vienna. He was Research Associate at the Department of Food Technology in Vienna, Austria, and Visiting at the Western Regional Research Centre of the US Department of Agriculture, Berkeley, USA; the Department of Food Science Cornell University, Ithaca, USA; and of Reading University, Reading, UK. From 1978 until 1987, he was Associate Professor, Full Professor and Acting Chair at the Department of Food Science at the University of Delaware, Newark, DE, USA, where he kept a position as Research Professor. From 1987 to 2012, Professor Knorr was Full Professor and Department Head at the Department of Food Biotechnology and Food Process Engineering, Technische Universität Berlin, and held the position of Director of the Institute of Food Technology and Food Chemistry at the Technische Universität Berlin. He also holds an Adjunct Professorship at Cornell University.
