Episode 151: Christians in Media - The Performers. Let’s do it. INTRODUCTION: Welcome to the show. So glad to have you here. We’re continuing our 3 part series on Christians in Media this week. Last week we featured interviews with 3 powerhouse producers in the faith space - Alex Kendrick, MovieGuide CEO Ted Baehr and the CEO of Pureflix Entertainment Michael Scott. This week is going to be another marathon episode as I’ll welcome as my guests, Victoria Jackson, returning to the podcast a 2nd time to catch us up on whats going on with her, also I talked with comedian Mark Lowry about performing in churches and his brand new podcast. And one more performer this week - Jaci Velasquez - you know her from the Christian music industry and possibly from her recent acting roles in films like I’m Not Ashamed. So, because we have a lot to get to this week, we’re going to get right to it. First up, my Saturday Night Live friend Victoria Jackson - and before we jump into the interview I want you to hear about her brand new book Lavender Hair - check this out. COMMERCIAL: LAVENDAR HAIR On October 8, 2015, Victoria Jackson was getting ready for a 45-minute stand-up routine. But instead of enjoying the pre-show excitement, she was laying on the couch in the green room coughing nonstop. Victoria had many scary moments growing up: doing a back handspring on the four-inch balance beam; performing stand-up comedy; auditioning for Saturday Night Live; and getting held at gunpoint in downtown Los Angeles. But being told she had cancer was her scariest moment. And the audience seemed to enjoy it, but we never got called back. So we didn't make the cut for The Gong Show." But while the Unknown Co mic and Gene Gene the Dancing Machine are currently brain stumpers in 1970's trivia contests, the accordionist who failed the Gong Show taping became the biggest selling parodist and comedic recording artist of the past 30 years. His earliest parodies were recorded with an accordion in a men's room, but today, he and his band have replicated tracks so well one would think they borrowed the original master tape, wiped off the original vocalist, and superimposed Yankovic into the mix. And with MTV, MuchMusic, Dr. Demento and Radio Disney playing his songs right out of the box, Yankovic has reached a pinnacle of success and longevity most artists can only imagine. Alfred Yankovic was born in Lynwood, California on October 23, 1959. Seven years later, his parents bought him an accordion for his birthday.

Church Lady would say this phrase in a sarcastic, mocking voice that indicated that the behavior in question was not special at all. The recurring character was a big hit for the show - possibly because she represented an archetype that many Americans had experienced at some point in their lives. Dana Carvey supposedly based her on older women that he had grown up with in church. One of my favorite episodes was one of the first where the Church Lady was interviewing Jenny Dana Carvey played the Church Lady Baker played by Victoria Jackson. Jenny was a girl from on NBC’s Saturday Night Live in the late 1980’s. the Church Lady’s congregation and had attended snap judgments against other people. Our hope is that worship consecutively for 200 times before she this characteristic doesn’t define us or our church. Yet missed.     The last laugh at Comedy Palace Friday, January 3, 2003 The last laugh at Comedy Palace By Meir Rinde Staff Writer ANDOVER -- Jay Leno may be the town's most famous son, but he's only one of many comedians who have passed through Andover. Orny Adams, the obnoxious up-and-comer in the Jerry Seinfeld movie "Comedian," got his start here. Robert Klein, Andrew "Dice" Clay, Chris Titus, "Saturday Night Live" alum Victoria Jackson -- they've all strutted the stage at Grill 93 on River Road, telling jokes and entertaining diners. Those big names are among hundreds of comics to perform there over the past nine years. But the laughter has ended. The restaurant hosted its final show, and promoter Ron Sava moved his operation, called the Comedy Palace, on to newer digs last month. Grill 93 co-owners Jeffrey Katz and Lilly Soohoo both died in the last two years, and their families did not want to keep running the restaurant, Sava said. The Nocera family, which serves Italian food at locations in Norwood, Stoughton, and Waltham, will take over the property in January, gut the building and turn it into another in their chain of Chateau restaurants. "I would have loved to stay there, but they didn't want comedy," Sava said. Instead, he started a new outfit called Jokemavens at the Guest House International, 159 Pelham St., Methuen.
