But take a breath, sit down, put your feet up and look at all the great things we’ve got in store for you once the craziness is over. By then, you will have definitely earned some time for yourself. To begin with, if you have a finished quilt that you started in a City Quilter class over the last 10 years, please consider entering it in our exhibition of student quilts which will be hung at The Williams Club, 24 W. 39th St., from Jan. 15 to March 2. The deadline for submissions has been extended to Dec. 14 so you have time to fin- ish that binding. A submission form with details is available at the shop and on our web site. We really would like to have a huge variety to show the scope of the quilt- ing world today. Then make sure to put the dates of the exhibition in your calendar! We have some great teachers scheduled: Sharon Pederson, author of Reversible Quilts and Color for the Terrified Quilter will be here teaching from her about-to- be-published book, Machine Applique for the Terrified Quilter. Noted pattern designer Cathy Corcella's will be teaching her “Holds It All Trio” project which was featured in the latest issue of “Quilts and More.” Take a class with Leni Wiener, author of Threadpainting, and add some new techniques to your next quilt.

QUILT-A-GRAM Booneslick Star April, 2009 Member of Heartland Quilt Network Vol. 31, Issue 10 April Programs . Starlight Chapter— April 2nd, 7:00 p.m. Kansas City Star Blocks & Patterns When we took office last July, we had recently heard Edith Leeper present a trunk show on her family quilts. Knowing Edith, we also knew she had a collection of Kansas City Star blocks and Kansas City Star Patterns. We convinced her that we would love to have her do a presenta- tion for us on her Kansas City Star Collection. This also gave us the idea to have a “block of the month” for the guild that would focus on these patterns with Edith‟s presentation to top it off. Edith Leeper has successfully amassed the first known complete collection of original clipped copies of the KC Star patterns. Edith will tell you all about the search and the patterns. She will have a small collection of cloth blocks made from the KC Star patterns. Our quilt heritage is closely tied to the patterns in the Star. Bring a short story for “show „n tell” about your quilt heritage and it‟s tie(s) with the Kansas City Star patterns. We‟ll have one to share with you. So please come to the Starlight Piece- maker’s meeting and support one of our very own. See you there! Linda & Pris Day Chapter— April 6th, 1:00 p.m. Dorothy Osler—UK Quilts You won’t want to miss the April meeting when we will welcome Dorothy Osler from the United Kingdom to our Guild.

  • 1 This Reading Group Guide for the Aloha Quilt Includes an Introduction
This reading group guide for The Aloha Quilt includes an introduction, discussion questions, ideas for enhancing your book club, and a Q&A with author Jennifer Chiaverini. The suggested questions are intended to help your reading group find new and interesting angles and topics for your discussion. We hope that these ideas will enrich your conversation and increase your enjoyment of the book. Introduction The Aloha Quilt takes one of Jennifer Chiaverini's beloved Elm Creek Quilters, Bonnie Markham, on an adventure in paradise, where the breeze is warm, the pineapple is fresh, and the quilting is rich in history and tradition. After losing her quilt shop to bankruptcy and experiencing the heartache and betrayal of a broken marriage, Bonnie just wants her divorce to be final so she can put it all behind her. Unfortunately, her soon-to-be ex-husband, Craig, isn't going to make that very easy. So the timing couldn't be better when a dear friend invites Bonnie to Hawaii for the winter to help her launch a new quilting camp on the beautiful island of Maui. It's just the escape Bonnie needs—from Craig, the divorce proceedings, and even the cold Pennsylvania winters. But after only a short time on the island, it becomes much more than an escape. Could this be someplace Bonnie could call home? Busy launching the Aloha Quilt camp, immersing herself in Hawaiian culture, developing new friendships and nurturing old ones, Bonnie's wounds begin to heal as she comes to understand the true meaning of aloha. Discussion Questions 1.
