Rain water is the only source of water for drinking as well as for irrigation purpose however, whatever rain occurs, that is uneven and scanty. Management of soil and arresting rain water lacks allover. The rainwater fallen on earth travels unchecked to small drains, drains to Nalas, Nalas to river and river to sea. In order to check and conserve water systematically, suitable rain water harvesting structures have been developed in the basin of rivulets in eight villages of Ghatanji, Yavatmal, Pandharkawada and Kalamb blocks of Yavatmal district for harvesting of rain water abundantly with the support of NAAM Foundation. Water storage capacity of reservoirs can be enhanced by de-silting of tanks. These all the structures and de-siltation of tanks will surely enable recharging the wells nearby these structures and thereby more area could be brought under irrigation. De-siltation of tanks:

De-siltation of thirteen tanks in Ghatanji, Kalamb and Ner blocks has been performed during the year. The tanks de-silted were the percolation tanks, irrigation tanks and Malgujari tanks. Total 99914 Cum of silt was removed. Total 38460 trolleys of silt was transported and spread in 401 acres of farm land by 205 farmers. This has enabled enhancement in water storage capacity of reservoirs by 108 TCM thereby enhancing water level of 163 wells and borewells. Reports from fields indicates that fertility of soil has been improved where dam silt was spread in earlier years.
