SCHOOL NEWS In the individual event, sharp-shooting Mr Pickles stole the show for Walton Hall with a score of 98 out of a possible 100. However, it was Mr Scott’s Moreton Hall who ran out overall winners topping the charts with 714 points. It really demonstrated the importance of participation as the lead in points was largely due to a greater number of teachers stepping forward to represent the hall. Not to be outdone by LHS staff, students also took aim in the archery competition which resulted in James Taylor (Tatton Hall) celebrating victory in the Year 9 event. Students have also been in action in the more traditional Inter-hall events with both cricket and football on the agenda over the past couple of weeks. The weather has done its best to disrupt proceedings and these events will be completed after the half- term break.

his spring the University of Manchester’s T programme in American Studies asked UK school students to write ‘Letters to a President’, to the incoming US presidential administration. The national competition asked students to consider in their responses what issues the new president and vice president should prioritize during their first few months in office as well as what their hopes are for the shape of our future world. Aimed at students in Years 9-13, judges were pleasantly surprised to receive a number of entries from our KS3 students, tweeting: “Delighted to discover that our ‘Letters to a President’ competition inspired so many - even those in younger age groups! Great to find some schools encouraging students in lower years also writing letters to President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.” “There are some hugely exciting voices emerging from Years 7 and 8 at Lymm High School. Wednesday 21st July It is with the greatest regret that we have to announce the loss of a Founders’ Day much-loved colleague and friend. John Berry was our site & Evening supervisor at the school before he passed away earlier this week Friday 23rd July after suffering a sudden heart attack. Early Closure John worked at the school for well over ten years and was a 12.15pm hugely significant figure within our school community. His warmth, good humour, kindness and capacity for hard work made him very popular with colleagues. Nothing was ever too much trouble for John when it came to supporting others and he was the kind of person who nobody ever had a bad word to say about. Put simply, he was a thoroughly decent man and he will be sorely missed.

John was also a big family man and he leaves behind his wife, Jill, and two children, Laura and Tom. Our thoughts and very best Follow us on wishes are with them at this, the most challenging of times. We have held a minute’s silence for John on Wednesday and will TWITTER be holding a memorial service in school at some point during @LymmHighSchool summer term.
