Although freely improvised, the music of Pocket Aces is consciously compositional, given to bouts of form, groove, and crafty melodies. Distillation of ideas with a premium on space and tone provides a strong coherence as the trio navigates the familiar and unfamiliar. HOFBAUER/ROSENTHANL QUARTET, HUMAN RESOURCES (CNM033) - RELEASE DATE NOV. 9 THE HOFBAUER/ROSENTHAL QUARTET, unites four imaginative improvisors from Boston’s eclectic jazz scene. There’s a non-hierarchal notion of the ensemble in this project, an ideal of equality and a selfless determination built into every musical inclination, as they unabashedly swing at the intersection between the clarity and control of bop and the brash freedom of the avant-garde. ERIC HOFBAUER QUARTET, PREHISTORIC JAZZ VOL. 4: REMINISCING IN TEMPO - OUT NOW. Reimagining of the rarely heard 1935 long form Duke Ellington composition. "It's a musical jungle gym for the guitar fan, a close listening to Hofbauer's note choices and abstract connections to the song's structure is absolutely required listening." - Paul Acquaro, Free Jazz Blog. GERRY MULLIGAN DISCOGRAPHY GERRY MULLIGAN RECORDINGS, CONCERTS AND WHEREABOUTS by Gérard Dugelay, France and Kenneth Hallqvist, Sweden January 2011 Gerry Mulligan DISCOGRAPHY - Recordings, Concerts and Whereabouts by Gérard Dugelay & Kenneth Hallqvist - page No. 1 PREFACE BY GERARD DUGELAY I fell in love when I was younger I was a young jazz fan, when I discovered the music of Gerry Mulligan through a birthday gift from my father. This album was “Gerry Mulligan & Astor Piazzolla”. But it was through “Song for Strayhorn” (Carnegie Hall concert CTI album) I fell in love with the music of Gerry Mulligan. My impressions were: “How great this man is to be able to compose so nicely!, to improvise so marvellously! and to give us such feelings!” Step by step my interest for the music increased I bought regularly his albums and I became crazy from the Concert Jazz Band LPs. Then I appreciated the pianoless Quartets with Bob Brookmeyer (The Pleyel Concerts, which are easily available in France) and with Chet Baker. Just married with Danielle, I spent some days of our honey moon at Antwerp (Belgium) and I had the chance to see the Gerry Mulligan Orchestra in concert. After the concert my wife said: “During some songs I had lost you, you were with the music of Gerry Mulligan!!!” During these 30 years of travel in the music of Jeru, I bought many bootleg albums. One was very important, because it gave me a new direction in my passion: the discographical part. This was the album “Gerry Mulligan – Vol. 2, Live in Stockholm, May 1957”.

He was widely noted for his soft, baritone voice, which he used to perform in big band and jazz genres and which he used to become a major force in popular music for 3 decades producing many hit songs for Cole. Cole was one of the first African Americans to host a national television variety show, The Nat King Cole Show, and has maintained worldwide popularity since his death from lung cancer in February 1965. Early life Nathaniel Adams Coles was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on March 17, 1919. Cole had three brothers: Eddie, Ike, and Freddy, and a half-sister, Joyce Coles. Ike and Freddy would later pursue careers in music as well. When Cole was four years old, he and his family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where his father, Edward Coles, became a Baptist minister. Cole learned to play the organ from his mother, Perlina Coles, the church organist. His first performance was of "Yes! We Have No Bananas" at age four. He began formal lessons at 12, eventually learning not only jazz and gospel music, but also Western classical music, performing, as he said, "from Johann Sebastian Bach to Sergei Rachmaninoff".

  • Introduction
Introduction Welcome to “The Greatest Hits Explained”. My name is Michael Winter and I’m the host and editor of the show. I’m a German American passionate music lover and I would now like to invite you to go on an exciting musical journey with me. I’m glad you’re here. No matter where you are right now and what you’re doing while you’re listening to this, if you’re in the mood to be entertained by music history, you’ve come to the right place. I’m really looking forward to this journey together. If you like this show, please subscribe, leave a review, a like, a comment – whatever applies to the specific platform on which you’re listening to this. Also, I really appreciate donations. You can find the link on my website or YouTube channel. Those donations help me cover my expenses for this show such as hosting fees, equipment cost, etc. I’m doing all of this to entertain you based on my endless love for music and since there is no big network pumping dollars into this show, I’m the one who has to pay for all related expenses. Therefore, a small donation would already be amazing. Today, we’re gonna talk about one of the most beautiful love songs ever: “Too Young” by the legendary Nat King Cole. I couldn’t be more excited. This song is one of my absolute favorites and I hope you’re interested in hearing a couple of facts about it. “Too Young” is one of those legendary classics that, to many people, is much more than just a song.

VOL. 18 NO. 2 Advent 2018 Journal of the Sophia Foundation The Master Peter Deunov in the Rila Mountains of Bulgaria Words from The Master Peter Deunov from Woman: The Source of Love and Life Bialo Bratstvo Publishers, Sofia, 2010 In the Old Testament, it is said that God scorns the prideful, but gives grace to the humble (Proverbs 3:34). By “God,” I understand this to refer to the Mother—to Living Nature. And she is great! Great is your Mother Nature! It is said in the Scriptures that when Christ found himself in human form, He became humble (Philippians 2:8). In order to have the Blessing of the Divine Mother, Christ was ready to endure all suffering. In esoteric science, Father is known as Mother. He is Love, but not in the way you understand Mother-Love. Do not even think of comparing this Divine Mother with the love you know. There is no image with which we can compare it. I call her “Divine Mother,” but not with the meaning that she has given birth to God. Esoteric science comprehends the Divine Mother as the Essence of all living things in the world.
