The map area contains deposits of bismuth, clay, cobalt, copper, RELATIONSHIP UNKNOWN gold, gravel, iron, kaolin, lead, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, 17 Diabase, quartz diabase, gabbro, niobium, sand, silica, silver, thorium, trap rock, uranium, yttrium, diorite, granophyre. Uranium is being mined at Elliot Lake by Denison Mines Limited, Sfanrock Uranium Mines Limited, while in the same area, Rio Algom Mines Limited produces uranium, thorium, and yttrium. Several uranium mines in the Elliot Lake area have recently ceased pro duction. 16 White quartzite, minor argillite.6 Copper is being produced at Spragge by Rio Algom Mines Limited, and near Batchewana by Sheridan Geophysics Limited. Copper 15 Variegated siltstone, interbedded was formerly produced in the Bruce Mines and Massey areas, in chert, subordinate quartzite, f Aberdeen township, and in Township 24, Range XI. Quartzite has been mined in the past for silica in Deroche town LORRAIN FORMATION ship and on East Neebish Island in the lower St. Marys River. 14 Quartzite, siltstone, greywacke, con Trap rock was formerly produced at Bruce Mines. Sand, gravel, glomerate, and clay, presently are being mined at and near Sault Ste. Marie for use by the construction industry. GOWGANDA FORMATION To the end of 1964, the total value of mineral production from the map-area was approximately S1,134,170,000., of which amount 13 Conglomerate, quartzite, arkose, greywacke. the uranium mines near Elliot Lake have contributed S1.113,851,000.
