Vice-President, Development HHSF / MCHF THE OPPORTUNITY The Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation is seeking a seasoned fundraising leader as its new Vice President, Development for Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation (HHSF) / McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation (MCHF). Reporting to the President and CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, the successful candidate will lead all fundraising for McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) or “Mac Kids”, one of the most highly-revered and beloved institutions in the Golden Horseshoe. In this extensively public-facing role, the Vice President will serve as MCHF’s chief fundraiser and community ambassador. The new incumbent will be charged with designing and implementing a comprehensive development plan to forge new alliances and relationships across the region to grow financial resources, with a primary focus on individual leadership, major & planned gifts, corporate partnerships, annual giving, third party events and donor stewardship. In addition the successful candidate will participate in developing the donor prospect base for a major capital campaign contemplated for a future new children’s hospital, and will take the lead in building the campaign plan from the ground up. In this executive role, the Vice President will supervise a dedicated and highly effective team of five and serve as a member of the HHSF management team. ABOUT HAMILTON HEALTH SCIENCES HHS is a family of seven unique hospitals, a cancer centre, and an urgent care centre which together serve more than 2.3 million residents of Hamilton and South-Central Ontario each year. HHS is the second-largest hospital group in Ontario, and acts as a regional referral centre for burns, cancer, cardiac, digestive diseases, high-risk obstetrics, neurosurgery, pediatrics, orthopedics, stroke, trauma, and rehabilitation services. HHS is also an academic teaching hospital affiliated with McMaster University and Mohawk College, and is considered one of the world’s leading health science research organizations. We are focused on raising funds and managing donor gifts that provide the medical teams at HHS with the essentials to enable excellence in patient care. We support the needs of Hamilton General Hospital, McMaster Children’s Hospital including the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre, Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, McMaster University Medical Centre, St. Peter’s Hospital, and all of their associated programs to ensure they provide the clinical leadership and specialized medical expertise that is needed at the most critical of times. We fund capital redevelopment projects, purchase medical equipment and technology, and invest in research. Through the generosity of our donors, we raised $25.2 (not including investment income) in 2017-18, and disbursed $18.4 million to HHS to fund equipment, redevelopment, research and fellowships, and education and bursaries. We are excited about the future as we continue building a strong foundation of support. The last five years enabled us to transform our brand as we united our efforts as a single organization and built awareness throughout the region. We made changes to enhance our donors’ experience by engaging them through a variety of communication vehicles, and added social media and digital marketing to our portfolio. We grew our partnerships with Children’s Miracle Network and Canada’s Children’s Hospitals Foundation, launched Care4 as our cause-marketing program, and engaged with other organizations and individuals throughout the region. We completed major gift campaigns at all of our supported sites, and achieved an increased physical presence for our philanthropic efforts. We engaged more physicians and staff by launching the staff recognition program, “Honour, Give, Transform”, and the “Staff 50/50 Lottery”. We focused on building for the future by launching the 20BY20 Endowment campaign, and built policies, business processes, and a governance structure that enables us to be recognized for our best practices through the Imagine Canada Accreditation and Association of Healthcare Philanthropy. MCH is home to 124 acute care beds, 22 mental health beds, over 40 pediatric specialty clinics, the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre, and one of the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Canada. A high-level strategist with a broad perspective, the ideal candidate will proactively seek and explore untapped potential in our community and region. The new incumbent will be goal-oriented and focused on deliverables which achieve the objectives of both HHSF and MCHF. Charismatic and fearless, the successful candidate will be a seasoned major gifts professional, with significant experience moving prospects through the donor cycle from pipeline development through to securing gifts in the five- to seven-figure range. The ideal candidate will also have experience developing and implementing transformational capital campaigns.
