Charles Kié: Future Africa Foundation Abstract The founders of Future Africa created the Foundation (FAF) in 2013 to give underprivileged children the chance to access good quality education in a healthy environment. One of its stated aims is to educate the masses about environmental issues including plastic waste, recycling and preservation with a view to building healthy environments and creating sustainable businesses for improved livelihoods. The Foundation differentiates itself by taking a 360° view of multiple intertwined problems: lack of access to quality education, women’s empowerment, environmental protection practices, sustainable businesses – all through improved waste management solutions. The Foundation aims to dive deep and address the root causes of these burgeoning issues. It takes a circular economy-like approach to maximize resource utilization -
Vol. 123 Style Sheet
THE YALE LAW JOURNAL VOLUME 123 STYLE SHEET The Yale Law Journal follows The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (19th ed. 2010) for citation form and the Chicago Manual of Style (16th ed. 2010) for stylistic matters not addressed by The Bluebook. For the rare situations in which neither of these works covers a particular stylistic matter, we refer to the Government Printing Office (GPO) Style Manual (30th ed. 2008). The Journal’s official reference dictionary is Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition. The text of the dictionary is available at www.m-w.com. This Style Sheet codifies Journal-specific guidelines that take precedence over these sources. Rules 1-21 clarify and supplement the citation rules set out in The Bluebook. Rule 22 focuses on recurring matters of style. Rule 1 SR 1.1 String Citations in Textual Sentences 1.1.1 (a)—When parts of a string citation are grammatically integrated into a textual sentence in a footnote (as opposed to being citation clauses or citation sentences grammatically separate from the textual sentence): ● Use semicolons to separate the citations from one another; ● Use an “and” to separate the penultimate and last citations, even where there are only two citations; ● Use textual explanations instead of parenthetical explanations; and ● Do not italicize the signals or the “and.” For example: For further discussion of this issue, see, for example, State v. Gounagias, 153 P. 9, 15 (Wash. 1915), which describes provocation; State v. Stonehouse, 555 P. 772, 779 (Wash. 1907), which lists excuses; and WENDY BROWN & JOHN BLACK, STATES OF INJURY: POWER AND FREEDOM 34 (1995), which examines harm. -

In 2015, which may have been the peak of Islamic State’s power, the number of Dutch Syria- goers, including women, was estimated at 220.2 The media reports and contemplates on their motivation, radicalization, recruitment and the danger these fighters possibly constitute when they return to the Netherlands.3 Politicians participate in heated debates on the status of the nationality and passports of Dutch Syria-goers. 4 The exact nature of the motives of these fighters and their actual actions, organizations and roles in Syria remain within the domain of speculation. -

English Beat: In Concert at the Royal Festival Hall DVD Reviewed on AudioVideoRevolution.com title: English Beat: In Concert at the Royal Festival Hall studio: Secret Films MPAA rating: Not Rated starring: English Beat DVD release 2005 year: film rating: Three Stars sound/picture: Three Stars reviewed by: Dan MacIntosh When you break it right down, there’s nothing particularly English about The English Beat. You may recall how the group was once lumped in with the whole ska movement back in the ‘80s, mainly because it was on the 2 Tone Records label, along with The Specials and The Selector. But if you listen closely, you hear very little actual ska (which is not exactly a British export in the first place) in the group’s songs. For instance, the only horn player in this outfit is the ancient Saxa, who would much rather play mellow jazz than skanking beats anyhow. Furthermore, the group’s repertoire contains a bounteous supply of reggae – both fast and slow – as well as other dance grooves. But no matter the style, all of these elements support this act’s punkish political attitude, which is possibly its lone true English attribute. This show, which was filmed at The Royal Festival Hall in London, England, features quite a few of the band’s original members. These players include the two front people, Ranking Roger and Dave Wakeling, as well as Saxa and drummer Everett Morton. And except for Saxa, of course, all of these musicians still look incredibly young. Better yet, they also sound great. -

The Revolutions of 1989 and Their Legacies
1 The Revolutions of 1989 and Their Legacies Vladimir Tismaneanu The revolutions of 1989 were, no matter how one judges their nature, a true world-historical event, in the Hegelian sense: they established a historical cleavage (only to some extent conventional) between the world before and after 89. During that year, what appeared to be an immutable, ostensibly indestructible system collapsed with breath-taking alacrity. And this happened not because of external blows (although external pressure did matter), as in the case of Nazi Germany, but as a consequence of the development of insuperable inner tensions. The Leninist systems were terminally sick, and the disease affected first and foremost their capacity for self-regeneration. After decades of toying with the ideas of intrasystemic reforms (“institutional amphibiousness”, as it were, to use X. L. Ding’s concept, as developed by Archie Brown in his writings on Gorbachev and Gorbachevism), it had become clear that communism did not have the resources for readjustment and that the solution lay not within but outside, and even against, the existing order.1 The importance of these revolutions cannot therefore be overestimated: they represent the triumph of civic dignity and political morality over ideological monism, bureaucratic cynicism and police dictatorship.2 Rooted in an individualistic concept of freedom, programmatically skeptical of all ideological blueprints for social engineering, these revolutions were, at least in their first stage, liberal and non-utopian.3 The fact that 1 See Archie Brown, Seven Years that Changed the World: Perestroika in Perspective (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2007), pp. 157-189. In this paper I elaborate upon and revisit the main ideas I put them forward in my introduction to Vladimir Tismaneanu, ed., The Revolutions of 1989 (London and New York: Routledge, 1999) as well as in my book Reinventing Politics: Eastern Europe from Stalin to Havel (New York: Free Press, 1992; revised and expanded paperback, with new afterword, Free Press, 1993). -

Title of thesis ..Explaining irredentism: the case of Hungary and its transborder minorities in Romania and Slovakia............................................................................................................................. ....................................................................................... Degree..PhD in Government............... This thesis seeks to explain irredentism by identifying the set of variables that determine its occurrence. To do so it provides the necessary definition and comparative analytical framework, both lacking so far, and thus establishes irredentism as a field of study in its own right. The thesis develops a multi-variate explanatory model that is generalisable yet succinct.
