Nat. Croat., Vol. 30, No. 1, 37–52, 2021, Zagreb. From 2016 to 2020 numerous surveys were undertaken to improve the knowledge of the pyraloid moth fauna of Biokovo Nature Park. On August 27th, 2020 one specimen of Psorosa mediterranella (Amsel, 1954) from the family Pyralidae was collected on a small meadow (985 m a.s.l.) on Mt Biok- ovo. In this paper, the first data about the occurrence of this species in Croatia are presented. The previ- ous mention in the literature for Croatia was considered to be a misidentification of the past and has thus not been included in the checklist of Croatian pyraloid moth species. P. mediterranella was recorded for the first time in Croatia in recent investigations and, after other additions to the checklist have been counted, is the 396th species in the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna. An overview of the overall pyraloid moth fauna of Croatia is given in the updated species list. • Lepidoptera: Crambidae) New to the Fauna of Croatia
Acta entomologica serbica, 20 20 , 25(1): xx -xx UDC DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.3735368 THREE MONTANE GRASS MOTHS (LEPIDOPTERA: CRAMBIDAE) NEW TO THE FAUNA OF CROATIA TONI KOREN Association Hyla, Lipovac I 7, HR-10000 Zagreb, Croatia E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Three species of grass moths (Crambidae) were recorded for the first time in Croatia. Udea alpinalis and Crambus ericella were found on the peaks of Mts. Guslica and Snježnik in Gorski Kotar region, while Catoptria pyramidellus was recorded on various mountain chains across the country. The discovery of three montane species in Croatia demonstrates the lack of Microlepidoptera surveys in these areas and the need for further research. KEY WORDS : Udea alpinalis, Crambus ericella, Catoptria pyramidellus, diversity , Gorski Kotar, mountains Introduction Grass moths (Crambidae) belong to one of the best studied Microlepidoptera groups in Europe, with a surprising number of available publications (Leraut, 2012; Slamka, 2006, 2008, 2013). However, the Crambidae fauna of many countries, especially in eastern Europe, has remained poorly studied. This is easily noticeable from the distribution maps published in a book series “Pyraloidea of Europe” (Slamka, 2006, 2008, 2013, 2019). Here, the highest occurrence of species is shown for Croatia, with a very limited number of records in eastern Europe. Only recently, a tentative checklist of all Pyraloidea of Croatia was published (Gumhalter, 2019). Although the checklist is based almost entirely on published papers and the examination of several smaller collections, it is useful as a good starting point to explore the Crambidae and Pyralidae fauna of the country. 2 T.

VOL. 30 No 1 243–250 ZAGREB July 31, 2021 original scientific paper / izvorni znanstveni rad DOI 10.20302/NC.2021.30.15 FURTHER ADDITIONS TO THE GRASS MOTH (LEPIDOPTERA: CRAMBIDAE) FAUNA OF CROATIA TONI KOREN Association Hyla, Lipovac I 7, HR-10000 Zagreb, Croatia (e-mail: [email protected]) Koren, T.: Further additions to the grass moth (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) fauna of Croatia. Nat. Croat., Vol. 30, No. 1, 243–250, 2021, Zagreb. Six species of grass moths (Crambidae) were recorded for the first time in Croatia. Chilo luteellus, Chilo pulverosellus and Thopeutis galleriellus were recorded in the Neretva River delta, showing the importance and great biodiversity of this Ramsar site, one of the largest Mediterranean wetlands. Euchromius rayatellus was recorded near Žmanska Lakes, a wetland area on Island Dugi otok. Two montane species were also recorded for the first time in the country, Catoptria combinella from Mt. Risnjak and Udea cyanalis from four montane areas across Croatia. The known range of occurrence of each of the recorded species in the Balkan peninsula is accordingly expanded. The discovery of these species shows the need for additional Microlepidoptera surveys in the country. With these records, the fauna of Crambidae of Croatia has now risen to 218 species. This number is however probably far from final and new surveys are expected to reveal additional species for the fauna of Croatia. Ellis Tinea Foundation, c/o Institute for Systematics and Population Biology (Zoological Museum), Department of Entomology, Plantage Middenlaan 64, 1018 DH Amsterdam, the Netherlands Received 31 October 1996; accepted 5 March 1997 We summarize the results of our studies of the changing patterns in phenology and distribution of microlepidoptera in the Netherlands. There is a strong dynamic effect, related to changing climate. In a sample of 104 common microlepidoptera species the date of the flight peak has receded by 11.6 days in the period 1975–1994. We also found changes in the species composition of the local fauna, although not necessarily in the number of species. Our findings imply that the number of rare (Red List) species may be an inappropriate parameter for the conservation value of a site. • RSPB Airds Moss Bioblitz 2015 Summary of Results
RSPB Airds Moss / Bioblitz / 2016 18/07/2016 RSPB Airds Moss BioBlitz 2015 Summary of results Report prepared by Daisy Whytock and Jennifer Dunn, 18th July 2016 1. Introduction Rationale: A BioBlitz is a special event held at a particular site or location where participants must identify and record as many species records as possible within a given time period (usually 24 hours). The records collected will help to build up an inventory of the living organisms present at the site, which will contribute to the ongoing monitoring of the site’s condition and its management. A BioBlitz event was held at RSPB Airds Moss on the 23rd June. A group of 17 participants made up of scientists, wildlife recorders and enthusiasts attended the event and helped record as many species as possible at Airds Moss. The event ran from 10am to 4pm. The weather was sunny and dry. 2. The site RSPB Airds Moss Grid reference: NS638259 Size: 432 hectares Designations: SAC, SPA and SSSI RSPB Airds Moss / Bioblitz / 2016 18/07/2016 3. The activities BugVac The Bugvac was used mainly by RSPB Dave Beaumont and CEI Daisy Whytock in the hunt for the rare Cloud Living Spider amongst other species. After ‘vacuuming’ the moss the collecting bag was emptied into a white tray to catch any specimens caught using pooters. This was carried out near the central basecamp area (NS638259). Other species such as beetles were potted to be sent off to Bruce Philp (beetle specialist) and Garth Foster (water beetle specialist). Spiders were identified by Dave Beaumont.
