MANNFORD SCHOOL MANNFORD, OKLA. '71 PIRATE FOREWORD

Patriotism is a feeling of loyalty and love towards one's country. It begins with a feeling of love and loyalty to our home and families and should extend to our school and community, then to our country.

Patriotism is something everyone of us should seriously think about and express. We should be very proud to live in a country where we have many freedoms and privileges.

It is our hope that this yearbook will show the patriotism we, as

Mannford students, faculty, and administration have for our homes, our school, and our country. CONTENTS

Miss Zella Moormon has taught at Mannford Elementary School for 23 years, during which she devoted much time and hard work to the Mannford 4-H Chapter and the Audubon Society. She also directed Christmas Operettas for the entire community to enjoy during her teaching career. But, more important, Miss Moor mon instilled in each of her students the beginning of the understanding and responsibility of adulthood. It is not necessary to dedicate a yearbook; but, because of our great admiration and respect, we dedicate the 1971 Pirate Pride to Miss Zella Moormon.

12 Athletics Spirit, Let's Hear It!

Athletics is a unique form of education. Whether it is on the gridiron, on the court, on the diamond, or on the track—athletics teaches the individual when to follow instructions and when to take the lead. It shows the value of cooperation as a team and the value of initiative of the individual. It teaches self- discipline and physical fitness. Winning, it is easy to be good sports. Losing, it is hard. Athletics builds the character whereby the individual can be gracious winners and graceful losers. But, winning or losing, athletics prepares the individual to face with confidence the biggest game of all—the game of life.

HIGH AND GRADE ACTIVITIES Extracurricular activities are an important part of junior high as well as high school life. The funda mentals of leadership, sportsman ship, and athletic ability are developed by participation in sports. Through out the school year our grade school and junior high students participate in football, basketball, baseball, and track. The cheerleading squads play an important part in some of these activities. They lead the spectators in cheering for the teams while add ing to the color and enjoyment of the game. To become a cheerleader, a student must have shown a great deal of dedication, physical dexterity, and enthusiasm.

We, the Annual Staff are proud of our school. We hope this annual reflects some of the pride we feel for its student body, faculty, and campus life. The job of recording the history of this school year has been a challenge that could not have been accomplished without the help of both members of the school and community. We appreciate very much the help and efforts in our behalf. Danny Donaldson and Marilyn Putt, the winners of our Pirate Contest and whose pictures are used for the cover and title page, and Mike Latty for his photography help have earned our special thanks. The members of the annual staff would like to especially give our thanks and appre ciation to our sponsor, Miss Stockton, for without her this annual would not have been made possible.

Spanish was offered for the first time at Mannford this year. The Span ish Club, sponsored by Miss Rohrer, was one of the most active groups on campus. Their activities included a trip to Lawton for the Annual Spanish Fiesta where Tammy Shipley, the Span ish Queen, was crowned; a trip to Mc- Alester to attend a special movie in Spanish; a banquet at Freddie's to in stall club officers. Members of the club attended Spanish contests at T.U., O.R.U., and C.S.U. Many fund raising projects were also held by club mem bers. The Spanish Club is a welcome addition to the activities offered at our high school.

40 Activities The festivities of the year are not only times to be remembered or times of spirit and sentimentality, but they are evidences of valuable lessons we have learned during the year. Each festivity is an example of action, coop eration, and responsibility of the students. Each of the activities on these pages was once only an idea that the students planned, worked toward, and made possible. At MHS we take great pride in the special activ ities of the past year.

54 Administration ADMINISTRATION

A leading American statesman has said that our faith and belief in our country are the two most prized possessions that we may have. One of the goals of educated men should be to encourage the growth and de velopment of these valuable possessions. It is with this in mind, that I take this opportunity to express appreciation to the Annual Staff and Sponsor for their concern and contribution in this chosen theme and trust that the ideals of Patriotism will be of real and lasting value.
