According to Catholic traditions of Latgale, a cross is a place of reflection where one looks up, removing any hat in reverence to God. People called divine service in May as "dzīduošana pi krusta" (singing at the cross) and held it at their own initiative. The artist’s exhibition Anticipation cannot be described as an exhibition in the classical sense, and is more like using space as part of the whole ‘’picture’’. LĪGA SKARIŅA SOLO EXHIBITION – ONE SHAPE 02.04.-12.05. 11:00-18:00 (II-VII) Līga Skariņa works in porcelain and other ceramic materials not only with sensitive surface treatment but also with light. The teacher of ceramics at the Latvian Academy of Arts includes in her compositions the rhythm of openwork elements, as well as abstract and stylized images. The exhibition is based on the work of the Riga Porcelain Factory vase "Kristīne" (made by artist Taisija Poluikēviča during second half of 20th century), which is played in various variations, porcelain processing techniques and creative experiments. THE DOM MUSEUM – TEMPLE FOR SCIENCE AND ART 03.-28.04. 11:00-17:00 (III-VII) 02.05.-29.12. 10:00-17:00 (I-VII) The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation. The origins of the museum go back to 1773; however, the exhibition fo- cuses on the period of the Dom Museum (1890-1936), with a particular emphasis on the Baltic German contribution to the preservation of Latvia’s cultural values and the fortunes of cultural treasures during the Second World War. EXHIBITION – ART NOUVEAU EASTER 09.-21.04. 10:00-18:00 (II-VII) The exhibition invites visitors to get acquainted with typical Easter decorations from the Art Nouveau period. The exhibition will also feature springtime related objects from the early 20th century taken from the collection of the Riga Art Nouveau Center. Grow- ing of cactuses and other succulents is rather easy, therefore more and more people want to grow them. Today, the nursing, collecting and breeding of irises has become very popular in Latvia, with about 1,000 different types of bearded irises in the active breeding circle.
