Introducing Red Bandanna U ’19, a week long, summer residential program for leadership, character development and service to be held at Dominican College of Blauvelt, located in Orangeburg, NY in co-operation with Dominican and the Rockland County YMCA.

• Sunday, July 7 through mid-day Friday, July 12, 2019 for rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.

• Experience Campus Life: Meet new friends from around the country who share your interests while living and learning on a college campus.

• Areas to be Developed: Leadership, Caring for Others, TEAM, The Power of One, Bridging Divides, Forgiveness, Carpe Diem.

• Team Building Activities and Adventure Ropes Course: These experiences provide opportunities for growth by building confidence through self-awareness and introspection. Participants will make unconscious thought processes visible through meeting physical, group, and individual challenges.

• Visit to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. Meet with a9/11 First Responder and retired member of the FDNY: The National September 11 Memorial is a tribute of remembrance and honor to the people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. The Museum is an educational and historical institution honoring the victims and examining 9/11 and its continued global significance through artifacts and records. • Attend Come From Away, the hit Broadway show and a post-show “talk back” with cast members: Come From Away is set in the week following the and tells the true story of what transpired when 38 planes were ordered to land unexpectedly in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

• Perform a reading of the documentary play, The Legacy of Welles Remy Crowther: The Man in the Red Bandanna about the 9/11 hero, whose courage, compassion, humor and strength continues to resonate with so many - across the years, and around the world. Taught by Bridgewater State University professor & playwright Lisa Rafferty.

Who is Welles Remy Crowther? Welles Remy Crowther was raised in Upper Nyack, NY. He was a three sport varsity athlete and high honors student at Nyack High School. He joined Empire Hook and Ladder Co., No. 1 at the age of 16 as a junior firefighter. Welles went on to where he played varsity lacrosse, #19, graduating in 1999 with a BA in Economics.

After graduating from Boston College, Welles became an equities trader at Sandler O’Neill and Partners on the 104th floor, . He was in his office on September 11, 2001 when the attacks on the World Trade Center began. Welles was recovered on March 19, 2002 alongside the incident commander of the South Tower and members of the FDNY. Ultimately, Welles’ parents learned that he saved at least 10 lives on that infamous day, returning to the burning 78th floor sky lobby of 2 WTC several times to rescue the wounded. He was identified by the victims he saved because of the red bandanna he wore covering his nose and mouth, something he always carried with him since childhood.
