SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SWIMMING, INC. (CA) CA is a Local Swimming Committee of USA SWIMMING, INC 2021 Swim Guide Published by the House of Delegates of Southern California Swimming Terry Stoddard, General Chairman SWIM OFFICE 28000 S. CA is one of 59 Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) within USA Swimming. USA Swimming is one of the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) under the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the USOC is part of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA). FINA is the swimming organization within the International Olympic Committee (IOC)….the group that organizes the Olympics. So, your club is the grassroots level of membership for swimming that goes all the way up to the Olympics! From San Luis Obispo down to San Clemente and over to Las Vegas, we have about 25,000 athletes, coaches, officials and parent volunteers in our membership. Because our LSC is so large--the largest membership in the country--we have 6 Geographic sub- Committees: Coastal, Desert, Eastern, Metro, Pacific and Orange to help with administration and local competitions. CA oversees registration for all our clubs and individual members, swim meet sanctions—roughly 400 swim meets per year are sanctioned/approved by CA, multiple camps and all-star teams, as well as educational programs for everyone.

STORY BY JEFF COMMINGS • PHOTOS BY PETER H. BICK few misfires here and there can spell disaster for a team at the NCAA Division I A Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The University of Michigan found that out the hard way a year ago. As the defending team champions, the Wolverines were expected to win another THE NEXT team title. But California and Texas had other plans. As Michigan slipped up in a couple of races on the meet’s first day, the Golden Bears and Longhorns moved in for the kill, and changed the team race dynamic significantly. Texas improved on nearly every seed by a significant margin, putting many swimmers in the top eight and scoring very high in all the relays. Cal, which GENERATION was primed to place a close second to Michigan in pre-meet prognostications, won three relays and boasted individual victories by freshman phenom Ryan Murphy. This month on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City, the Golden Bears and Longhorns will renew their rivalry, with the team battle OF FAST.

DIVISION I MEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2014 Championship 2 History 4 All-Time Results 12 Brackets 19 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS Coach Eddie Reese leads Texas to another championship: Texas men’s swimming coach Eddie Reese claimed there was no significance -- save one -- in his Longhorns claiming an 11th NCAA championship Saturday. “The number of championships just means that I’m old,” a water-soaked Reese said shortly after Texas wrapped up the 2015 Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship at Iowa’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. The 11th title moved Reese, 73, into a tie with former Ohio State coach Mike Peppe for the most swimming titles by a coach in NCAA Division I history. Peppe won his titles between 1943 and 1962. “I’m not as old as my chronological age would indicate,” Reese said. “I’m never going to act my age.” Reese is in his 36th year at Texas and all 11 titles have come with the Longhorns. His first came in 1981, but the Longhorns had not won since copping his 10th in 2010. And that was of no concern to Reese. “I have 10 rings from winning 10 championships. I have no clue where they are,” he said. “My grandkids know, because they play with them, or they used to.” Reese said his career has been more about the people he has coached than the championships his teams may have won. “I know what every kid did and how much they improved,” he said. “Those are the things that really matter.
