Based at Rugby Police Station, the Rugby Rural North Safer Neighbourhood Team focus on providing a dedicated support and resolution role, working with partner agencies and individuals within the community to identify and solve concerns that affect their locality.

Our policing area has strategic road links with the M6, A5 and M69 passing through. Local officers, with support tackle the criminals that travel those routes with a view to making communities safer from the threat of harm. The area is mostly made up of rural and village communities which bring their own unique demands.

We focus work around high risk and prolific offenders and our Neighbourhood Teams will:

• Engage with communities and partners to innovate, identify opportunities and create sustainable solutions to local problems. • Work with partners and communities to tackle the harm caused by crime and anti-social behaviour. • Be visible, accessible and accountable to local communities. • Engage with the Community Forum process and address priority concerns. • Seek to identify those at most risk of harm and support them through appropriate interventions. • Engage with young people and deliver prevention and © Crown Copyright and database right 2016. Welcome to the March issue of the Rugby Rural North Newsletter.

Crime/Incident Overview

This section looks at the crimes/incidents of public interest that have occurred on the Rugby Rural North Safer Neighbourhood Team policing area. Below is an overview of certain crime/incident-types that have been reported to us over the last month:

Burglary Residential – 6 reported incidents

Inc 312 13/02/2020 – Crowsfurlong, Rugby Between 09/02/20 and 13/02/20 a garage has been broken into and two pedal cycles have been taken. Inc 248 15/02/2020 – Lower Road, Barnacle This is an attempted burglary to the front and rear of a property and a horse box. Inc 337 21/02/2020 – Hallway Drive, Shilton Between the 18/02/20 and 21/02/20 a side panel to a plastic shed has had a hole put in it, entry was not gained. Inc 376 21/02/2020 – Wood Lane, Shilton This is an attempted burglary around 6.00pm, where unknown offenders have tried to ram the front door with a motorbike and by kicking it in. Inc 224 24/02/2020 – Road, Pailton The windows on a back door have been smashed and an untidy search has been carried out.

Burglary Business and Commercial – 5 reported incidents

Inc 37 14/02/2020 – Clifton C of E Primary School At 2.50am the school has been broken into and Ipad’s have been stolen. Inc 85 22/02/2020 – Leicester Road, Churchover A shipping container has been entered and power tools have been taken. Inc 209 15/02/2020 – Brinklow Road, Binley Overnight entry has been gained through cladding at the side of a building, gardening equipment has been stolen. Inc 137 19/02/2020 – Barr Lane, Brinklow Between 15/02/20 and 19/02/20 offenders have attempted to gain entry to a garage. Inc 67 27/02/2020 – Skelhorn Ave, Rugby Between 5.00pm on the 26/02/20 and 7.00am 27/02/20 a container has been entered, by drilling a hole in the side and an untidy search has been carried out.

Criminal Damage – 2 reported incident

Inc 139 13/02/20 – Hillmorton Lane, Rugby Coping Stones have been chiselled off a wall. Inc 110 21/02/20 – Meadow Furlong, Rugby At 10.30am a Cureor black frame bike has been stolen from outside of a property. Inc 197 18/02/20 – Main Street, Stretton under Fosse At 10.30am a handbag has been stolen from off a chair in a coffee shop. Inc 218 28/02/20 – Avocet Close, Rugby At 11.30am 28/02/20 an offender has been seen stealing a pedal cycle from a rear garden. The offender has later been identified after CCTV was released.

Vehicle Crime – 12 reported incidents

Inc 92 03/02/20 – Rugby Road, Clifton Unknown offenders have gained entry to a secure unattended vehicle and removed a shopping bag containing a handbag with its contents. Inc 437 04/02/20 – Coombe Abbey Hotel Between 10.00am and 4.00pm 30/01/20 no damage has been caused to a vehicle and D.J equipment has been stolen. Inc 70 11/02/20 – Ansty Hall Hotel Overnight the locks on the rear door have been forced open and a specialist lap top have been removed. Inc 429 11/02/20 – Avocet Close, Rugby At 11.30am 28/02/20 an offender has been seen stealing a pedal cycle from a rear garden. The offender has later been identified later after CCTV was released.

Inc 307 12/02/2020 – Coombe Abbey Hotel The drivers door has been broken into between 9.30am 11/02/20 and 4.00pm 12/02/20. Inc 425 13/02/2020 – Coombe Abbey Hotel Between 8.00pm 11/02/20 and 10.00am 12/02/20 the drivers door lock has been damaged, nothing has been taken. Inc 392 19/02/2020 – Rose and Castle, Ansty Between 6.00pm and 8.00pm a rear window has been smashed and a laptop has been stolen. Inc 274 22/02/2020 – Ansty Golf Club Between 1.30pm and 4.00pm the central locking has been damaged on a van and golf clubs and power tools have been stolen. Inc 422 24/02/2020 – Coombe Abbey Hotel At 8.00pm a van has been entered and it looks like they have used a can opener to enter it. Inc 444 27/02/2020 – Coombe Abbey Hotel At 8.00pm a £5,000 bike has been stolen from the rear of a vehicle. Inc 64 23/02/2020 – Croft Close, Wolvey At 3.15am a large quantity of power tools have been stolen from a van.

Good News Two arrested following collision - Shilton

Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with a burglary in the , following assistance from the National Police Air Service (NPAS) in Warwickshire.

At around 1pm on Saturday (22 February), a burglary took place at a house in Binley Woods in Coventry.

Shortly afterwards, officers located a car near Shilton, Warwickshire, which had been in a collision with another car.

It’s believed this vehicle had been involved in the earlier burglary, and five males were seen to run from the car.

Following a pursuit involving the police helicopter, a 16-year-old boy and an 15-year-old boy from Coventry were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They have been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.

An investigation is ongoing and officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or any suspicious behaviour in the area. If anyone has any information, please call on 101 quoting incident number 185 of 22 February 2020.

Rugby Farmers Meeting

Rural Officers attended the Farmers meeting on February 18 th at Broad Street Rugby Club, Binley Woods.

On the evening lots of information and advice were given about crime prevention for the rural communities. It was also an opportunity for the farmers to speak to local officers about any issues or concerns that they had. Rugby Borough Council were also in attendance re fly tipping, the NFU, Trading Standards – Livestock officer, British Horse Society and lots more.
