In addition to highlighting trailblazing alumni, legendary faculty, outstanding students and dedicated supporters, the college’s annual publication shined a spotlight on two aspects of the past year that none of us can ignore: the COVID-19 pandemic and the movement for racial justice. 3 2020-21 Season CU COLLEGE OF MUSIC The music of resiliency As coronavirus upended plans all over the globe, the performing arts on the CU Boulder campus were no different. But as a college, our artists have dug deep to find a way to keep our educational mission alive against extraordinary odds. Students and faculty used on-screen meetings to their unique advantage. The Trumpet and Horn studios produced virtual performances, along with the keyboard faculty and the bands. -

2020 Terrapin Open Packet 5 By Caleb Kendrick, Vishwa Shanmugam, Graham Reid, Emmett Laurie, Joelle Smart, Ewan MacAulay, Jack Lewis, Alex Echikson, Naveed Chowdhury, Justin Hawkins, Ophir Lifshitz, Ani Perumalla, Jason Shi, Kai Smith, Anson Berns, Jakobi Deslouches, NourEddine Hijazi, Caroline Mao, and Ethan Strombeck Tossups 1. In this novel, two characters enthusiastically play cards in the freezing cold while pretending to ignore enemy soldiers who have occupied the summit above them. A tailor named Proscodimo claims that he’s only living in this novel’s setting on a temporary basis, despite having spent fifteen years there. In another scene, a sentry shoots a soldier he knows, who is attempting to corral a runaway horse, simply because the soldier does not know the day’s password. This novel’s protagonist is reprimanded for using Simeoni’s telescope to watch small moving dots on the horizon as they build a road for the (*) Northern Kingdom. The protagonist admires Angustino’s death in this novel, which begins with the protagonist awkwardly hailing Captain Ortiz as he rides towards Fort Bastiani. This novel’s protagonist, Giovanni Drogo, spends his whole life in the title place waiting for an invasion, only to be sent home when it finally comes. For 10 points, name this novel by Dino Buzzati (“DEE-no bood-ZAH-tee”). ANSWER: The Tartar Steppe [or The Desert of the Tartars; or Il deserto dei Tartari] <CK, European Literature> 2. Ed Runge (“RUN-ghee”) created an energy-based model for this process with two intensity factors. Glomalin can increase carbon content during this process. -
Claudel & Rodin Fateful Encounter
Claudel & Rodin Fateful Encounter or La rencontre de deux destins: a one point perspective (2006) Louise R. Witherell I borror the words "one point perspective" from a much admired supporter of woman's art in the United States: Elsa Honig Fine, the creator and publisher of the Wommt's ArtJoumaL During approximately 75 years, each issue of her magazine was begun under this title giving her own assessment of its contents. I have not had Mme Fine's training nor her breadth of experience in art criticism, nor do I have her skill in presenting pithy introductions to the work at hand. But she encouraged my early considerations of the life and work of Camille Claudel. Elsa Fine edited sparingly but wisely what I wrote, permitting a literary type to be published in her pages. I believe that my general summary of what was known about the life and work of Camille Claudel in the mid 1980's was the first such item to be published in the United States (see Womant's Art Jownal, Summer 1985, \fitherell, "Camille Claudel Rediscovered," 1-7.) This was, of course, soon followed by other articles in various places, including the Smithsonim. So how did I come to my own point of view as a firm believer in the genius of Camille Claudel? Rather slowly and almost accidentally. I began by doing research on and then translating some of Paul Claudel's early plays. I frequently attended the Rencontres claud6liennes from 1977 on. These were held at the chAteau which Paul had bought near the small town of Brangues in southeastem France. -
