SADCC REGIONAL GENE BANK (SRGB)

SADCC Member States have established a Regional Plant Genetic Resources Centre at Chalimbana Research Station, near Lusaka in Zambia. The functions of the SADCC Regional Gene Bank (SRGB) include establishing and coordinating of National Plant Genetic Resources Centres in each member state to support plant breeding; conservation of indigenous plant (and crop) genetic resources; collection, characterization, and storage of gennplasm (in-situ and ex-situ); as well as training of personnel in plant genetic resources management in the region. SRGB is therefore looking for a suitably qualified and self-motivated person to fill the above position. DUTIEs:------The successful candidate will be reporting to the Director. The full-time duties include: *identification and classification of relevant flora *inventoring of genetic resources in the field *organising in-situ preservation of genetic resources *organising as well as actively collecting in the field, and *assisting the NPGRC in the various SADCC member states in any respect relevant in the In-Situ Officer's duties.
