Undergraduate Research Conference UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH CONFERENCE CELEBRATING 20 YEARS URC 2019 Welcome to the UNH Undergraduate Research Conference hank you for joining us for the 20th annual Undergraduate Research Conference. This is an exciting showcase of our students’ innovative research and academic excellence, and a wonderful opportunity Tto celebrate our faculty mentors, whose research and teaching expertise are the hallmarks of a great UNH education. The URC is a highlight of the academic year at our Durham and Manchester campuses, and reflects UNH’s commitment to encouraging students in every discipline to pursue cutting-edge research. This year, more than 2,000 students James W. • 2020 Edinburgh International Swim Meet Welcome – East District
2020 EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL SWIM MEET WELCOME – EAST DISTRICT On behalf of the East District management team, I welcome everyone to the Royal Commonwealth Pool for the 2020 Edinburgh International Swim Meet. The East District extends a warm welcome to the many returning swimmers, coaches and officials and also to all those attending this year’s event for the very first time. “Come on in! You’ll have had your tea?” is the perennial tease put about - jocularly - by Scotland’s larger city with reference to Edinburgh hospitality. However, in truth Edinburgh is and historically always has been a very outward- looking city, receptive and welcoming to people, culture and influences from far and wide, from European influences during the Scottish Enlightenment and before, to genuinely becoming a “worldwide city” (and indeed World Heritage City) today. We are proud that this is a truly International Meet with overseas athletes from Denmark, France, Belgium, Ireland, Faroe Islands and Spain all planning to visit and support from the very best of youth and elite swimming from across the home nations. Unfortunately a number of our international visitors have been unable to travel from their home nations due to their Government’s restrictions – we hope to see them in Edinburgh next year. We look forward to packed and exciting finals sessions each evening when our younger age group swimmers can rub shoulders with elite swimmers from around the world and take inspiration from them. I have no doubt there will be many highlights and new memories made for elite swimmers and age-group swimmers alike.

We go to great lengths. Harper Macleod is Scotland’s leading sports law practice, and as Official Partners & Legal Advisers to Scottish Swimming we’re delighted to support them in developing the sport across the country. Sport and competition is central to our culture. Our recent appointment as Legal Advisers to the Glasgow 2018 European Championships is a perfect example of that. However, there’s so much more to Harper Macleod than success in the sports sector. We provide personal legal services to individuals and their families nationwide. From making a Will to winding up an estate, from family law to personal injury, we’ll make every effort to get the result you need. We also offer a full range of commercial legal services to businesses and organisations throughout Scotland.
