Commentary The 5pm ministerial briefing was led by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, who announced further easing of lockdown restrictions in England from Saturday, 4th July 2020. He said that the government was satisfied that their ‘five tests’ were continuing to be met and so more places would be allowed to reopen from 4th July, providing they meet the COVID Secure guidance that applies to them. The following list shows the venues and activities that may open and those ‘close proximity’ venues that must remain closed. Places that can open from 4th July providing Places that must remain closed until they are COVID Secure further notice Pubs Cinemas Nightclubs Indoor play areas Cafes Theatres Spas Bowling alleys Restaurants Museums Casinos Exhibition centres Hotels Galleries Beauty salons Conference venues Libraries Hairdressers Indoor gyms Places of worship Outdoor playgroups Swimming pools The Prime Minister explained that from 4th July, in England, two households will be able to meet in any setting with social distancing measures – which has been revised. Social distancing remains at two metres, but where this is not possible it should be ‘one metre plus’. This means staying one metre apart plus other mitigating measures which reduce the risk of transmission. New guidance has been issued specifying the businesses and venues that may open from 4th July 2020, together with detailed guidance and checklists for keeping workers and customers safe in restaurants, bars and takeaway services from the same date. The ministerial media briefing held at 10 Downing Street on Tuesday 23rd June will be last one held under the current arrangements. Slides and datasets used at the briefings plus other COVID- 19 information will continue to be published.
