ÿƒ > Mumbai is one of the most populous and best cities of . It is industrialized and even the night appears as day. The Arabian sea waves reaches it’s shore and turns the sand to gold. In Mumbai’s Tomboli were living Mr.T.Raghavan and Mrs.Sheela Raghavan. They bore their first child on 26-06-1988and named him Umesh. He became an Audio Engineer. His father was a government employee. He was a pious person right from his childhood. He studied in SIA school till his 10th std and Later joined National Junior College . he was very much involved in youth meets during his youth and they meet every week to pray together. During his holidays he used to distribute pamphlets in railway stations. In 2006 he enrolled himself for doing B.Tech in Karunya University. He used to pray regularly. It was the source of his peaceful and graceful life. He com- pleted his studies in 2010 and joined as Audio Engineer in a media company in Chen- nai and worked there for 1.5 years. Later he joined C.S.I.L in Mumbai in 2012. He worked sincerely. His friends used to tease him for praying regularly but he used to preach them according to proverbs 28:20. He was true to his institution and got promotion from time to time. Whenever his colleagues had drinks party, Umesh moved away from them and kept insisting that drink- ing alcohol was a sin. He prayed every morning in his company and also prayed for all his distressed friends and comforts them. Seeing this, his director also asked him to pray for him in his cabin. So Umesh got his oppurtunity to pray for his superior as well. He works hard for 5 days a week and does ministry work the next two days. Dear friends, Umesh was faithful in his youthful days. So he was blessed and lifted up by God. So if you too can be faithful like how it’s said in Proverbs 28:20, God will bless you too abundantly! Dear youngsters, Don’t run after blessings! Run to Our God, Blessings will come to You! -Pushparaj On 1988, I was travelling in train standing near door and look- ing at the skyscrapers of Mumbai city. The journey was a turn- ing point to me who was being spiritual and full of business thoughts and having many dreams about future. Before 200 years that Shivaji began his war against Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, a diligent muslim businessman, Haji Ali, combined his hope and talents and created a culture that is still admired by millions of people. It was 1526 in which all the sub- continent of India were being ruled well by Mughal Emperors. Arabian seashore of very famous seven islands were under the governance of Mughal and Sultan Bahadur Shah. 23rd December, 1534, it was signed that all these seven islands were joined with Portuguese empire. These islands started receiving special attention of Portuguese officials since it was a suitable place for fish farm. Also, they were interested in establishing Roman Catholic spiritual activities. Seeing those seven islands that were floating beautifully in the Arabic ocean and prosperity of them, Portuguese government joined those islands with Bombay. Bombay, having small area of land and ruled by Marathi kings, took its special place in history and captured hearts of millions. Then, it was given to East-Indian company for lease in which they would pay 10 Euro in an year. Many Mughal Kings waged a war to oppose this but in vain. Since they had direct contact with , East India Company made Bom- bay prosperous. During their governance, Bungalows, road facilities and popula- tions started to be stabilised. On 1687, East India Company moved its headquarters to Bombay from Surat. After this change, all the Indian companies changed their headquarters to Bombay and increased its prosperity. During those days, Bombay harbour flourished since all the transportation was done through sea. Bombay city also dominated other cities in all aspects. After British people to this day, Congress only has been ruling state. It can be said that it is the birthplace of Indian Congress. On 1965, shiv sena was started and it put forward their own ism. Then, BJP joined with shiv sena and stood in elec- tion. Likewise, many parties started focusing and roaming this city. In 20th century, it’s name was changed as Mumbai due to marathi people’s compulsion. Today, world is looking at this city with great expectation when it hears its name. It is the No.1 city of India that has more population and No.4 in the world. Rather than being called Marathi people, they are proud to be called Mumbai citizen. However FMPB activities started growing from its infancy since 1987 onwards. Lot of migrated Christian youths from different areas of Mumbai engaged themselves in this ministry . Later on when they got married they became leaders of FMPB and many prayer groups were formed throughout Mumbai. Three day Annual gideonite’s meet conducted every year used to be a very pleasant and blessed one for us,as this was an opportunity to have fellowship and rededicate our commitments. Later on different meetings were organized for Teens ,Youths and children during camp. Special focus was given to youths and teens since later ninties of twentieth centuary. Around 24% of Mumbai’s population are youths between the age group of 10- 30 years. Most of the crimes are committed by these group. Their involvement in crime such as addiction to drugs, driving with the influence of alcohol, Pre marital sex ,Pronography, robbery, extortion etc is confirmed by many research agencies. Moreover recent survey shows that depression level among the youth has gone up to 75% during the last 5 years and 60 % of them attempt to commit suicide. At present, the Christian population in Mumbai is estimated to be about 4.2%. Mumbai is a blend of multi-lingual, multi-religious, cosmopolitan and diverse lifestyles. This is reflected in the Christian population too. Similarly there are multiple denominations within the Mumbai region. Most of the missionary organizations are determined to move on to the rural and rarest interiors of this country where the Gospel has still not been heard of. However, the requirement for missionary activities within Mumbai is also very high though these may be second generation Christians, most of them have a very secular, ‘when in Rome, do as the Romans do’ kind of attitude.

Street Childrens...

-Sudha Benjamin What did Jesus do when he met the blind, the lame, and the sick people …He was moved with compassion and he healed them. What did Jesus do when He met a crowd of hungry people … he understood their need first and fed them. What did Jesus do when little children were brought to Him…. He placed his hands on them and prayed (Matt19; 13). Today as Christians what do we do when we see a child on the street? Are we moved with compassion, do we understand their need, do we pray for them. Back ground An estimated 2 lakh street children live in Mumbai. Every day, they scavenge across the city for a better life, showing courage and resilience that would put most adults to shame. The term ’street children’ refer to children for whom the street, more than their family, has become their real home. It includes children who may not necessarily be homeless or without families, but who live in situations where there is no protection, supervision, or direction from responsible adults. Children who leave, run away, or are sent away from their homes, are generally attracted to Mumbai because of the city’s glamorous and wealthy reputation. Mumbai is called “the city of dreams” and is often depicted in films as a city where anyone and everyone can acquire the job of their choosing and have a good life. It is popularly known as the hub of Bollywood (the Indian counterpart of Hollywood) and is known to be home to a number of film personalities thus increasing its ‘glamour quotient’. Mumbai is one of the most famous cities in the world Prayer Points and is renowned for its immense variety of educational and employment opportunities. As the commercial capital of India, railways and roadways connect Mumbai to virtually every region of India, making travel to and from the city easy and accessible. Challagences Faced by Them Street children are subjected to harassment and eviction by the municipal authorities because of their unauthorized occupation of city roads and vacant places. Street children are also harassed by the city police and railway authorities. Many are arrested for minor infringements. They are victims of physical and sexual abuse. Lack of an access to basic services of shelter, health care, education and training, lack of alternative livelihood options, lack of societal acceptance and legal status (for want of ration cards) are the major issues of street children. The Challange There are many organizations working among them, basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter can change their lives for the better but real transformation comes when they know their heavenly father. Children get material needs from any person but the real challenge is who will give proper direction to their lives, show them the one who unconditionally loves them. As Christian youths are we not challenged to stand in the gap and do something about it. It’s easy to talk about corrupt India but hard to change the scenario, but as Christians we are called to tread the narrow path. Jesus did it and as followers of Christ shouldn’t we follow his example!!! 1. Government empathy towards these kids should change. Prayer Points 2. Generating more awareness regarding ‘Abuse of children’ in homes, street, work place, etc 3. Improvement in the living conditions of government children’s home and observation home. 4. Observation home (children who commit crime are kept here) should be equipped with better rehabilitation facilities. 5. Child labor should stop. 6. Improvement in Adoption and foster care polices. 7. Christian youths should take up social service as a career option. 8. Christian youths should get into the system (CWC-child welfare committee) 9. Pray that churches would partner with NGOs to reach out to these kids. 3rd Week Prayer points Rescue Home for Sick People from Streets -Sudha Benjamin -Vision Rescue “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.” – Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 25, par. 1 Vision Rescue is working in an area where we find many people who are literally living on the streets and many are sick and helpless. Most of this people have travel to Mumbai living their loved once and family back home and they come in search of Job but they end up on the streets because of no job. Some of this people get addicted to drugs. We had rescued many people from streets, send them to a government hospital and also help them to reunite with their family. Sick people need a shelter when they are discharge from hospital also they need lot of counseling to stand head lifted high and also to reunite with their family. Over the last three years, Maharashtra has had the largest number of people registering for drugs deaddiction in the country. Records with the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment show that 43,180 persons have checked in for deaddiction treatment in Maharashtra since 2007, which is higher than any other state. The numbers (which are a fraction of the actual number of drug users or addicts) Mumbai has traditionally been a conduit for the drug trade and consequently, the number of users here has always been large. Prayer Points 1) Pray that drug addiction will end in Maharashtra and India. 2) Pray for people who supply drugs 3) Pray that we have place to shelter for homeless people. 4) Pray that people will be protected from drugs 5) Pray that people will be healed miraculously 6) Pray that they all will be saved Missionary’s Name: Mr. Jayakumar and Mrs. Latha Year of the commencing his ministry: 2003 Mission State: Jarkhand Pray for them… Mission Field: Bhagya Tribe: Oravan This missionary family who had been toiling in the mission field among the Oravan people appeal to pray for the following: 1. Please pray that the Oravan people be delivered from their addiction of intoxicating drinks and drugs. 2. Pray that these people come out of their superstitions. 3. Pray for the new believers who shift to different places on account of their jobs Prayer Points 4. Pray fervently for the 51 believers and the 2 Prayer fellowships among the people of Oravan 5. Pray for our children: Sherwin Ebenezer, Jerlyn Josbel. We congratulate the newly formed youth and Teen prayercells CONGRATS 4th Week Prayer Points

We had gone to Maharashtra mission field from Chennai to record the ministries happening there and to print the ‘Araikooval’ magazine. The scenes that I came across during the ‘Two day journey’ moved me to pray. I saw two young men earning money with two little monkeys. It appeared that their lives were knit with the monkeys. I could understand that these young men had left their homes and beg to have a living. If they are not rehabilitated by the Government with good education and standard living, they may turn out to be terraorists and Maoists in the future. Let us pray fervently for these people. May we pray for the betterment of their lives and also for those who don’t have a place to stay and lie in railway stations! In the year 1990, Friends Missionary Prayer Band started a home to uplift such dropped out children, especially of that of the believer’s families. Now there are 52 such homes and 13059 children cared. These homes are found in Tribal areas of Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat and are functioning well for the glory of GOD. Few children in these homes are drop outs from various hostels. It is known that few of the dropped out children become secret workers for Maoists. So the Government has to take measures to prune them and to lead them to right living. Let us pray fervently for these children. Homesick: Many children feel depressed to stay in hostels as they get reminded of their Parents and friends left behind in their hometown. Let us pray that these children should not feel home-sick. They should enjoy peace and tranquility at the hostel where they stay. Child-Marriage: Children who get back home for a vacation are forced to get married in their villages. Let us pray that the child-marriages be stopped and the importance of education be known to the people. Poverty: Due to acute poverty, Parents sell their children. The Landlords buy little children for peanuts and employ them to exert hard labor. Let us pray that they be lifted up from Poverty. Slow –learners: Some children lag behind in studies as they did not get good primary education. They are demotivated by their inferior thoughts. Let us pray for their wisdom. Educational Awareness: Some children do not have the thirst to study well for their own goodness and for the wellness of their family and the country at large. Let us pray for these children to receive awareness on education. Earthly Lust: Few children in the hostel find it hard to abstain from Mobile Phones, FM, MP3 players and other gadgets they used at home. Let us pray for them to get rid of earthly lusts and to get closer to GOD and to concentrate on their studies. Parents moving to faraway places: Some Parents relocate themselves on account of their Business. Thus, they take their children away from hostel and deprive them of studies. Let us pray that these Parents find permanent jobs nearby so that their children are undisturbed. Insufficient Teachers: Since teachers in the hostel are insufficient, it is hard to spend time with every individual child and to understand them better. Let us pray that we get adequate teachers to continue our mission. “Whatever you ask in my Name, I will give you” -John 14:14 4th Week Prayer Points - P ushpa The name "Thane" is said to be derived from 'Sthan' or 'Sthanaka', the capital of the kings of Konkan. Thane district adjoins the city of Mumbai. not only provides a natural protection to the place but has also facilitated transport of big and small ships since ancient times. This has also acted as an impetus for the develop- ment of local and international trade since the pre-historic times. Thane city has a rich cultural heritage, mythological background, and has been home to many events of historical importance. It is located to the northeast of Mumbai, partly on it shares that island with the Mumbai City District, with Mumbai Suburban District (), and partly on the mainland across Thane Creek. The city of Thane is one of Maharashtra's major industrial town and the district headquarters. Spanning an area of about 147 km², the city is located at an elevation of 7 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by hills, including the hill of Yeoor and Parsik Hill. The city is located at the main sea level on the northern part of the Konkan region. The city is also known as 'Lake City' because of the 35 lakes encompassing an area of about 40 Ha.The most beautiful of them is the Masunda Talao, also known as Talao Pali. Thane was inhabited with people of the Agri, Koli and Chandraseni- ya Kayastha Prabhu communities, and their villages still exist today as "Chendani Koliwada", "Kopari Goan", and "Uthalsar". In 1825, the British explored their newly annexed territories in Bassein. The local villagers, like Kolis (fishermen), are converted into indigenous Catholics mostly from villages of Chendani, Koliwada, and Majiwada. The Agri and Koli community people had their own culture. Some of the upper class East Indian families in the Khatri ward of Thane still speak Portuguese. Thane was the terminus for the first ever passenger train in India. On 16 April 1853, the first passenger train service was inaugurated between Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and Thane. Many Transportation took place at thane. The two main rivers flowing through the district are the Ulhas and the Vaitarna. The great Venetian traveller Macro Polo too, in the course of his wandering set foot in Thane in 1290 AD. He describes the city as a greatkingdom, which apparently had a well-developed port, for he mentions a continous traffic of ships, and merchants trading and exporting leather, buckram, cotton, and importing horses. In fact, the present day Ghodbunder is said to be the site where horses were unloaded from ships. Friar Jordanus, a great traveller, who visited the city between AD 1321 and 1324, describes it as being under a Muslim governor. He leaves a detailed sketch of early Christians in Thane and refers to the martyrdom of four Christian priests in the region, more than 200 years before the Portuguese ever set foot in India. Thane now occupies pride of place as a prime suburb and is all set to make its mark in the next millennium. Prayer Points:- 1. India’s financial capital Mumbai, is also this country’s capital to underground activities like smuggling etc. it is highly industrialized, fastly modernized and a place for movie business… all these paved the way for adultery / prostitution to be rooted well in Mumbai. Though prostitution has been in India from ancient years in the name of Devathasi, in the 14th century it evolved as a business and became acceptable when foreign people came to trade in India. In coastal areas like Mumbai and Goa, soldiers were allowed to commit adultery (They would be separated from their wives for months or even years). Though India got its freedom from foreign nation in 1947, it has not still got its freedom from adultery. Instead, it has only increased. Bhandup is situated in Mumbai’s North East region. It is 20 kms away from Mumbai’s Airport. Sonavur means graveyard. Though Bhandup is away from the city, it is close to old Agra Road and the National Highways. Transgender started prostitution here. In the 1980s, 2500 prostitutes and 500 transgenders were involved in this trade. It was run by Mani Nadar, Balasingh Nadar and their sons. No one other than their customers were allowed inside. They bribed the police and were carrying out their trade. Young women from Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Andhra, Kerala, Maharastra and Nepal were cheated and compelled to be in that place. They were threatened to be killed and buried. It is natural that all living beings including plants and animals wake up with a good night’s rest. But it is not so in Bhandup, Sonapur. In that red light area, children do not sleep in the loving embrace of their mother’s instead children live in a scared, traumatised state. Children are highly affected due to this. They wander in cold, rainy nights, because their mothers leave them and go out nights. 3 years old Mushan Ali states, “My Mother gives me a drink mixed with pepsi. After drinking it, I fall asleep”. 7 years old Savitha Says, “My mother will give me alcohol to make me sleep. But I awake hearing the screams due to fights between my mother and their customers. There are a lot of stories like these. It is such a shame. There children who wander at night suffer from malaria due to mosquito bites. They start to drink and take drugs. They are affected by what they see. They became sex worker even before adulthood. Their youth is mined. Their rights are denied. No one is concerned about their future. Their future is really a question. Sneha Sagar, is an organization which does its work at any time among these abandoned children. They provide necessary care/protection under the name Prem Kiran at nights. They teach them about basic cleanliness / first aid. They provide them nutritious food, education and also train them in certain fields. Prayer Points: 1. For those kidnapped to indulge in prostitution. 2. For the transformation of all those who are involved in this trade and those who run brothers. 3. For those who have been stained in this sin. 4. For the eradication of HIV / AIDS/TB 5. For other job opportunities for the women involved in it. Nothing Can Separate From her bedroom window, Rebecca eyed the children playing in the snow enviously. How she longed to play with them! “Now, Rebecca,” she remembered her father telling her that morning. “You can’t play in the snow today.” “Why not, Father?” Rebecca had asked. Every day, the neighbourhood children gathered at a park just behind Rebecca’s house. “Just trust me, Rebecca. It’s not what’s best for you today,” her father had replied. At the time, Rebecca had responded by kissing her father on his cheek and assuring him that she would stay inside and read. But now she was having second thoughts. It is beautiful outside, she thought to herself. It was true: the sun was shining brilliantly. Why wouldn’t her father let her go play? Why should she have to miss out on all the fun? When a snowball exploded just outside her window, Rebecca decided she couldn’t stand it any longer. She simply had to go join the others! Leaving her book on the table, Rebecca slipped outside. She tried to tell herself she was having a good time, but all the while her heart felt uncomfortable. She kept looking this way and that, fearful least her father sees her. After a few hours, Rebecca finally said her goodbyes and headed back towards the house. She wanted to be safely lodged in her room before her father came home. Intent on getting to her room as quickly as possible, Rebecca didn’t see the mitten someone had left on the stairs until her foot slipped on it. Next thing she knew, she had fallen several stairs. To her horror, she noticed that she had hit her father’s favorite picture when she fell! A huge gash ran along the front of the picture. Normally, Rebecca would have hurried immediately to her father after such a fall so he could doctor her up and make her feel better. But not this time. How could she face her father right now? She had disobeyed him and ru- ined his favorite picture! Biting her lips to keep from crying out, Rebecca grabbed the ruined picture and hobbled to her room. For the remainder of the day, she lay in agony. Her body ached from the bruises she received on her fall. But her heart—ah, that ached worse of all! She felt certain that her father would no longer love her. She had messed up in the past, but surely this time she had gone too far! He would probably never want to speak to her again. How could he still love her? She sobbed uncontrollably on her pillow. She had always been close to her father. They had played and studied together. They had laughed and cried together. But not now. No, she felt certain that all those wonderful times were over. Who knows how long she would have lain thus had not her nanny come in to check on her. Rebecca’s nanny had a way about her of finding out exactly what was wrong and offering solid, wise counsel. Tonight was no exception. “Rebecca, dear,” she said firmly, but gently. “You’ve been very wrong. But you must not continue in your wrong- ness by sitting here. You must go to your father with the broken picture in your hand and tell him everything.” “Oh, but I can’t! I’m not worthy of His love!” Rebecca sobbed. Her nanny sighed patiently. “You were no more worthy of it yesterday than today, child. Your father loves you because you’re his daughter, not because of anything you do or don’t do. Hasn’t he told you everyday since you were a little girl, ‘I love you’? Do you doubt his word? Do you really think his love is dependent on you?” Doubt his word—that was an angle Rebecca had never thought of before. Maybe she should go see her father… yes, she must go see him, for if she didn’t, she’d never be able to rest. So, still shaking and trembling with fear, Rebecca limped down the hall to the living room. She paused at the doorway. Her father was sitting in his favorite chair, just like he did every night. He looked up when she entered, and a smile radiating with love illuminated his face. “Ah, you’ve come at last! I’ve been waiting. Come, sit here on my lap.” As he spoke, he opened his arms widely. Rebecca couldn’t stand it. “Oh, you don’t understand, Father! You can’t love me anymore. I’ve been terribly wicked and-” Rebecca held up the picture frame for her father to see. “I know, Rebecca—more than you think. I watched you go outside. I watched you fall and hit the picture frame. I saw it all.” “You did?” Rebecca was flabbergasted. “But-but weren’t you at work?” Her father shook his head. “I took the day off to spend some special time with you. That’s why I told you not to go outside to play. Ever since I saw you fall, I’ve been longing for you to come to me so I could bandage your wounds and help you. Won’t you come now?” Rebecca could hardly believe her ears. Her father had planned to spend the afternoon with her…and she had missed it. Oh, what foolishness! Yet her father knew it all…and loved her anyway. Could it be? “But, Father, how can you love me now?” Rebecca’s father smiled a smile she would never forget. “Rebecca, dear, I loved you before you were born. You’re my daughter. And I will always love you. Although sometimes your actions will result in consequences you could have avoided, nothing can ever separate you from my love. Now won’t you come and let me help you with those bruises?” “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or naked- ness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Romans 8:35-37
