Two expats get jail term for counterfeiting documents

A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced in absentia an expatri- ate man to11 years in jail and his accomplice for three years for counterfeiting off icial documents. Local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported the duo were con- victed of counterfeiting the signature of their employer on applications for entry visa and exit permit in addition to letters of credits addressed to some banks. The first convict, according to the file of the case, counter- feited the signature of his employer on an application for a cheque book of the bank, in addition to an authorisation letter for the second convict to get the cheque book. Accordingly, the first convicted issued a cheque for QR125,000 with a counterfeited signature of his employer and cashed it himself. Though he had issued other cheques in the same way to others with diff erent amounts, none were cashed. In the meantime, he counterfeited the signature of his employ- er on visa and exit permit applications, which were rejected by the authorities concerned. Eventually, the victim discovered the criminal activities of his employee and reported it to the police, which took necessary procedures against the duo.
