Playoff Scenarios

The AppleSox enter tonight’s game tied for first in the WCL North Division in the second half. Here are the potential ways that the Sox can make the postseason. 1) Win the North Division 2) Tie for first in the North Division 3) If Victoria wins the North again, have the next-best overall record in the division, first and second half combined. • If the Sox sweep the Raptors or just take three of their final six games, they will earn a postseason berth. Even if Wenatchee does not win the North Division or tie for first with Victoria, the Sox are automatically in as long as they win three games. • With two wins in their final six games, the Sox would qualify for the postseason as long as Bellingham does not win at least five of its final six games. If the Bells win five of their final six games, they will have to make up a previously rained-out game against the Walla Walla Sweets on Aug. 12. If they win that game, the Bells would earn the postseason berth over the AppleSox. Even though a loss in that game would give the AppleSox and the Bells the same overall record, Wenatchee earns the tiebreaker thanks to winning four of six games against Bellingham this summer. • There are still ways the Sox can clinch a playoff berth with just one or no wins in their final six games. • If the AppleSox win one of their remaining six games, they need Port Angeles to not win five or six of their remaining six games. If they win five of six (all of which are against Victoria) and the Sox only win one, the Lefties would win second-half North Division title. The Sox would also need Bellingham to lose at least three games. • If Wenatchee loses out and Bellingham loses at least two games and Port Angeles loses at least twice, the AppleSox are in.
