Bodmin Military Project In January a project was started which involved pupils from 3 primary schools learning to play brass instruments through First Access. The project ran alongside the Regimental Museum in Bodmin. The children were taught how to play brass instruments such as the cornet, trombone and euphonium but also learnt about military music. In the second term the children continued to learn to play the instruments, but were fortunate enough to pay a visit to the museum and they had a fantastic experience. The children also got to learn to sing wartime songs and learnt to play a few simple riffs which could be added to some modern music. On Thursday 20th June the pupils form the schools all came together for a fabulous concert in St Petroc’s church, Bodmin. We invited Lostwithiel Town Band and Training Band who were inspirational for the children and parents. The schools represented at the concert were Bugle Junior School and Lanlivery Primary School. It was thanks to Mary Godwin for bringing the whole project together, and working on behalf of the Cornwall Music Education Hub, it was a pleasure to be involved I such an inspirational project. Hopefully some of those who were inspired will one day be members of our military bands and keep the long tradition of military music alive in our country! - Anna Minear 2 PROJECTS AND EVENTS Whitegold Festival Composition Project Pondhu, Carclaze and Foxhole Schools performed their own clay-inspired songs as part of the Whitegold Festival on Saturday 21 September in St Austell.
