1. WORK PLANNING  Care and CRS are expecting tarpaulins from IOM/DFID shelter pipeline that will be sent from the International Airport in Kathmandu (KTM) straight to Deurali. They are unclear on what the process is to be notified and to release the stocks. The Logistics Cluster will follow up to clarify the process.

 Oxfam is ready to send 1000 tarpaulins to Deurali base on 13 May, depending on the airops planning.

 UNFPA is expecting to send maternity tents and dignity kits next week to Deurali, and will inform WFP about the volume and weight.

 The MI-8 helicopter is planned to fly to Uhya, , , Chhekampar, and .

2. STORAGE  It was noted that Gorkha has limited local storage options available for organisations. Care offered temporary storage capacity and outside storage in their warehouse in Gorkha, which is near the military base.

 NTNC/MCAP, the Manaslu Conservation Project, who have been working in seven VDC’s for 16 years, have a field office in Sirdibas with six staff. They offer temporary outside storage in Sirdibas, with security provided by staff and police.

 The Swiss SDC will setup a tented base in Sotikola ( VDC), this will include storage for 16 mt of food, 2000 tarpaulins, 400 kitchen sets and other shelter items, to be used for distributions (on foot) to nearby VDC’s.

 Care plans to setup an office/camp in Barpak, as a forward coordination office for Barpak and surrounding areas.

NEPAL GORKHA DISTRICT – Meeting Minutes

 The MI-8 helicopter was planned to serve Gorkha on 12 and 13 May, but due to technical difficulties and the earthquake on 12 May, it was unavailable. We expect a second UNHAS MI-8 helicopter to become available for tasking on 15 or 16 May, which will mean additional helicopter capacity available as well for Gorkha district.

Road transport

 CRS reported that the prices of tractors and 4 x 4 are going up in Gorkha district, but there are no capacity constraints.

 Google Earth has been updated with high-resolution maps that can help planning & checking roads & tracks.

4. ANY OTHER BUSINESS  WFP in Dhading district reported that of the 50 VDC’s in Dhading, only five are inaccessible by road and are reached by air. No constraints were noted with transport in Dhading. Road access is difficult (similar to Gorkha) and access problems are expected during the monsoon season.

 Care noted that the shelter distribution coverage in Dhading is not so good yet as in Gorkha and that there is a shortage of storage space, because Dhading Besi has smaller, traditional houses and more damage as Gorkha.

 Care said they would like to use Deurali Logistics base as a transhipment point for the IOM/DFID shelter materials on 4 x 4 trucks to Gorkha and Dhading district.

The next logistics cluster meeting: Friday 15 May, 4pm at Gorkha DDC office.

Logistics Cluster Meetings: Tuesdays 4:00pm at the Deurali Logistics Base and Fridays 4:00pm at the DDC Office in Gorkha town.
