VOLUME 10, NUMBER 16, AUGUST 15th, 2002 Blackwood Holds Home Coming Home Coming Events Raise Money for Improvements in Towns

By Anita Rolle Cast-away Cay Life Guards Help Schools Hundreds turned out to participate in the Fourth Annual Blackwood Homecoming held August 2-4, 2002. Despite the threat of rain, the crowds came out in scores to enjoy the festivities. Thoughtful organizers planned ahead, making available a big red tent, which proved useful for shelter from the spates of rain. Officially opening the event was North Abaco Island Administrator Ivan Ferguson. In his brief address Mr. Ferguson commended organizers of the event for their great efforts and encouraged them to stick together as a community as they continue to build and de- velop Blackwood. With a full slate of events, activities in- cluded a basketball tournament, dominoes tournament, cultural and fashion show, games, and, of course, the weekend would not be complete without Junkanoo! The teams showed true comradery, proving that it is not all about winning, it is about having a great time. Music was provided by AJ the DJ who certainly did a fabulous job entertaining the crowd with his witticism. Everything Baha- mian was available for eats.
