An important part of our mission is to give encouragement and assistance to Harvard undergraduates who wish to explore careers in public service and serve the DC-area communities during their winter and summer breaks. Each year, a substantial portion of your membership dues fully funds two Summer Community Service Fellowships, which give two selected undergraduates the opportunity to work in unpaid public-service internships or projects in the DC area during their summer break. To help continue and expand our sponsorship of these students, please join our Club if you have not already, be sure to renew your membership, and consider becoming a Sustaining or Patron member: http://www.harvard-dc.org/memsub.html. This year, we begin partnering with Harvard's new January Winternship Program so that alumni like you can help by proposing an unpaid, job-shadowing experience at your organization for any number of days during the January winter break. For more information on Winternships, Summer Community Service Fellowships, and other ways that you can help, please see the announcement, below, from our Community Service Committee. None of the work of the Harvard Club would be possible without you, and we thank you for your generous and loyal support. Happy holidays! Best wishes, Yi-Fun Hsueh AB '87, JD '91 President Harvard Club of Washington, DC Can You Support an Intern This January or This Summer?! Winternship Program: Harvard’s Center for Public Interest Careers (CPIC) is working with local nonprofit organizations to organize short-term unpaid internship experiences for Harvard College students. If your organization is looking for an intern to work for you between January 2 and January 23, 2015, please take a few minutes to fill out the online Winternship request form found at https://harvard.az1.qualtrics.com/SE/SID=SV_0wA3KeIhukPm7S5. Interested organizations are asked to complete the Winternship request form by November 1, 2014, or as soon as possible thereafter. Examples of how interns can help your organization: working on research projects, designing websites, completing grant applications, working on social media projects, and supporting direct service work. If you have any questions, please contact Travis Lovett at [email protected]. Summer Internships: The Harvard Club of Washington, DC, as part of its service mission, also supports and encourages Harvard undergraduates and recent graduates to serve our communities and to explore careers in the public interest in the DC metro area through summer internships. We invite you to join us in these efforts. Other Ways You Can Help: Would you like to mentor an undergraduate or recent graduate exploring public service careers? Does your organization have public service summer internships and jobs for “just hatched” Harvard alumni? Are you available as a speaker? Can you assist by joining our local area committee? We welcome your support and involvement in connecting with students and alumni and broadening their experiences. Please contact Cora Yamamoto, Co-Chair of the Community Service Committee, at [email protected].
