For two of them, the sadness almost brought tears. Bobbie Kendall, a local business woman who owns the Waffle Iron restaurant, will never forget the fi rst time her daughter Bridget (Clikas) shopped at WACO. “It was her fi rst big purchase as a grown-up,” Kendall said as she smiled over at her daughter shopping in another aisle Wednes- day. “She was 18. She bought a 25th Anniver- sary president for her father and me,” Kendall said. “It’s one of my most treasured things. We shop here together all the time. And when Bridget got mar- ried, Nancy was there for us every step of the way, helping us think about and work out so many of the little details. She has been a precious part of our lives.” Watts was a savvy busi- ness woman, keeping her store robustly stocked with the latest ‘hot’ merchandise through the years, keeping up with trends and mak- ing sure her store was fi lled with variety. “I always said, you can’t sell from an empty wagon,” Watts said. “I tried to keep something for the customers in a lot of dif- ferent categories and to keep trending with what was going on.
