Soon he was hired away by KGO-TV as morning assignment editor where he quickly moved up to the position of news director. Under his leadership the station earned Emmy®, Edward R. Murrow and Peabody awards for its coverage of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Soon KPIX lured Fuller back as news director.
