The Hôtel de Ville de is the city hall and one of the largest historic buildings in the city, located between the and the Place de la Comédie, in front of the Nouvel Opera House. Since 12 July 1886, the building has been classified as a Monument historique.

Museums

Confluences Museum Situated on the confluence of the Rhone and the Saône, the Musée des Confluences is an absolute must-see in Lyon. The Gallo-Roman Museum of Lyon and the archaeological site (integrated into the perimeter classified World Heritage by Unesco) are situated on the slopes of the Fourvière hill, formerly in the centre of the Roman City of Lugdunum, founded in 43 B.C.

Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon Musée des beaux-arts de Lyon is located near Place des Terreaux and housed in a former Benedictine convent which was active during the 17th and 18th centuries. Its collections range from ancient Egyptian antiquities to the Modern art period, making the museum one of the most important in Europe.
