7 Any examples of public art only adds to the enhancement of our community and moves us into 1/11/2021 3:52 PM the realm of cultural awareness and appreciation. It shows a level of sophistication and thinking and awareness of a larger picture than merely that of our own lives and self-centered thinking.

17 I love any art in the town. I feel like we don’t have enough of it and the places with public art 1/12/2021 12:15 AM definitely look more appealing to me

18 Art that has no other purposes. 1/11/2021 9:01 PM

19 It's all good. I never really noticed the wraps around traffic utility cabinets until I saw one and I 1/11/2021 3:52 PM thought "that is really cool." I think that there may be more obvious places for art, however.

20 I dont have any, i love all the art 1/11/2021 3:48 PM

25 the new wall going uphill on the duportail 12/28/2020 5:16 PM

26 The roundabout art here generally doesn't look modern and often come off flimsy and tacky. 12/28/2020 4:37 PM Art commissions should focus less on the art being a literal interpretation of the city/location.

27 One's that are not maintained 12/28/2020 1:08 PM

28 THERE IS NONE. Someone with their taste in their mouth does all the awarding of public art. 12/27/2020 5:13 PM Seriously...

29 I dislike that so far all the art installations are just abstract metal. Otherwise I would love it. 12/27/2020 2:19 PM What about a real fountain that's not a rusty sewer pipe like they put in front of city hall, but a pretty one, or a of someone important to local history?

30 Benches 12/27/2020 11:17 AM

31 I like all art, I'd just like it to be more visible in town. It's kind of hard to look at the art in 12/26/2020 6:45 PM roundabouts.

32 Anything called art that would not be acceptable for a five year old child or a nun to see. 12/26/2020 5:48 PM

41 Specifically the roundabout steel art is confusing and displeasing on Queensgate Drive, don't 12/17/2020 10:09 AM get the resemblance to anything and is trashy

42 I don't have any least favorites- it's all good! 12/17/2020 8:06 AM

43 I like some of the round svouts but the Queensgate/Freeway are AWFUL 12/17/2020 7:51 AM

44 Like art in roundabouts, but many that I encounter are not my preferred tastes, but better than 12/16/2020 12:36 PM none!

45 none 12/14/2020 4:50 PM

46 The roundabouts on Queensgate are embarrassing 12/7/2020 8:27 AM

47 None 12/6/2020 4:50 PM

48 Some of the ones in the round about are way to small and don’t make sense 12/5/2020 12:42 PM

49 The round about art just looks like random garbage piled into an “artistic” shape. No 12/4/2020 6:10 AM significance to Richland.

50 Poorly done roundabout art...I love the metal tree! 12/3/2020 4:22 PM

51 NONE. If its Art, its alright by me. 12/3/2020 3:42 PM

52 The "art" within the roundabouts in Richland (especially Queensgate) is horrible! It is so 12/3/2020 2:25 PM incredibly tacky, Bend, Oregon has great roundabout art and sometimes just beautiful landscaping is better (Kennewick)

53 The of Sacajawea in Columbia Park area is boring. Take a look at the Sacajawea 12/3/2020 11:54 AM sculpture located at the Port of Cascade Locks,OR. Much more interesting. Port commissioned local artist Heather Söderberg of Söderberg Bronze Works Inc.

54 LIKE THEM ALL! 12/3/2020 11:47 AM

55 NA I love it all 12/3/2020 11:43 AM

56 I HATE with a burning passion the roundabout art that was chosen for the queensgate area. On 12/3/2020 11:02 AM top of that, it is a slap in the face to local artists that those installations were done by an outside corporation, and not local artists.

57 Queensgate roundabout art and lack of maintenance around art installations. 12/3/2020 10:21 AM

58 Fountain at city hall 12/3/2020 9:58 AM

# RESPONSES DATE 1 I overall love visuals with lots of colors working together. For instance, pictures on the sides of 1/16/2021 10:28 AM buildings, or flower garden arrangements and sometimes the structures inside roundabouts. And, as someone who plays music, I love the art of music.

47 In town I love the dog statue in the parkway and the fountain outside city hall. Nationally I think 1/12/2021 1:41 PM the bean in Chicago is a standout.

48 Large interactive pieces of art such as the goat or Red Flyer in Spokane. Interaction makes it 1/12/2021 1:37 PM for me

49 Murals in general, especially those that make an important, relevant statement 1/12/2021 1:34 PM

50 I love murals! They make buildings more beautiful and can be great opportunities to showcase 1/12/2021 1:32 PM local artists. I used to live in D.C. and I truly loved seeing murals everywhere. Made me want to go out and exercise and explore more!

55 I like Noguchi's red cube sculpture (NYC public art piece). I like it because it's big, bold and a 1/12/2021 8:51 AM cool conversation piece. Would love to see something like this near or around our city facilities. The website below pretty much sums up what I would like to see in Richland. I have never been but would love to after seeing all that they have to offer. https://www.spartanburgdowntown.com/public-art-in-downtown-spartanburgs-cultural-district/

56 I love sculptures because there are so many possibilities with them! I also like the interactive 1/12/2021 12:15 AM music station in Howard Amon! It’s super cool

57 Musical sculptures can be really cool. We had several on my campus at UCSD, but Richland 1/11/2021 10:57 PM gets more wind..

58 The richland skatepark is beautiful and also has a good purpose. It is used constantly and I 1/11/2021 9:01 PM

10 / 69 2020 Richland, WA Public Art Survey SurveyMonkey

don't see why money should be spent on useless things like roundabout decorations.

59 Painted pianos, a series of like sculptures each different by a different artist, found in random 1/11/2021 8:30 PM places all over town

60 Murals painted in the sides of buildings. I just think it looks really cool. 1/11/2021 3:38 PM

61 I love murals done on Subway’s and trains, but like quality art. The wings painted on that one 1/11/2021 3:16 PM building are a great example. Graffiti with more than the purpose of graffitiing. Oh also that one mural that has since been painted over at the old Bombers restaurant near Carmichael and Richland. It’s been painted over now but it was a really cool bit of local history.

62 The music roundabout in Kennewick, by the Toyota center and the mural on Richland High 1/11/2021 3:09 PM

63 i like going on a drive and being able to admire public sculptures and murals 1/11/2021 3:04 PM

64 I like the roundabout art that they are putting in Kennewick. 1/10/2021 11:01 AM

65 In Seattle, near the SCCA, there is a blocks long installation of plants that filters runoff water 1/9/2021 7:05 PM before discharge to the lake. It is beautiful and useful.

66 ART WALK!!! 1/9/2021 8:10 AM

67 A city needed trees but couldn’t support the roots, irrigation etc. so they built creative metal 1/8/2021 9:38 PM tree structures (one had a Volkswagen in it) and grew ivy up the structure. They became shade “trees”.

68 All Art. Especially murals. 1/8/2021 10:08 AM

69 The roundabout art in Kennewick (especially the one by Zplace) is memorable to me. It is 1/8/2021 9:20 AM bright, large, and colorful and I feel like it represents the people and livelihood of the City versus something that is hard to tell what it is or what story it tells.

70 Round about art is wonderful! Any art that is unexpected is very appreciated by me. 1/7/2021 10:43 PM

71 “Luminotherapie” in Montreal. “Spiral Jetty” by Robert Smithson. Anything with an interactive 1/7/2021 9:47 PM quality and open ended public engagement.

75 I’m not sure how helpful this input will be, but even as an artist myself, some of my favorite 1/7/2021 1:03 PM displays of art are collaborative and collaborative— think overlapping graffiti on a train car or wall, light poles covered in stickers, and the gum wall at Pike’s Place. I like pieces that anyone can interact with!

83 Tumbleweed festival Broadway shows especially musicals 12/28/2020 5:17 PM

84 I really enjoy the art work that has gone up at the uptown, only critique would be incorporating 12/28/2020 5:16 PM current business use in the mural eg hair salon (out of business) or licensing

85 Generally I appreciate beautifying existing space/objects and interactive pieces. Locally I love 12/28/2020 4:37 PM the xylophone/marimba type piece and carved totems at the Howard Amon park. Also the new vintage photo utility wraps in central Richland. I also enjoy the modern and playful roundabout sculptures in the Southridge complex area. The murals at the Uptown are nice, but without additional updates to the exterior, the colors can look dingy. Elsewhere, Denver's "Crushwalls"

event is a great confluence of a city, art, music, and culture. I also love the idea behind the 'Freak Alley' mural alley in Boise.

90 The community theatres and ballet 12/28/2020 12:42 PM

91 I saw a red bridge at a park in Selah that was fabulous! It would make another perfect spot for 12/28/2020 10:20 AM (which employs others) and other special memories... Also, a big garden like Manito Park in Spokane would be fabulous and a great place to install local art.

92 Murals at Uptown 12/28/2020 8:20 AM

93 Theater and concerts 12/27/2020 11:07 PM

94 Billboard and building mural installations. Black Lives Matter mural in Spokane 12/27/2020 10:27 PM

95 The metal tree in old town Richland. I just think it is beautiful & also a bit of whimsy! I also 12/27/2020 8:52 PM love the large metal art of running horses on the hills above I-90 between Ellensburg and Spokane! It looks like it fits the landscape and the horses are beautiful -- it also breaks up a rather long mostly barren landscape. Another sculpture I love is "Waiting For The Interurban" under the Fremont bridge in Seattle -- it's fun to see how people dress the sculptures up during the year.

96 Parkway roundabout art. It is stunningly beautiful 12/27/2020 8:42 PM

97 I prefer when there are multiple venues and multiple media displayed. 12/27/2020 8:21 PM

98 The metallic tree in the Parkway 12/27/2020 8:14 PM

99 The Capitol Theatre in Yakima. It is an extraordinary building which was rebuilt to its original 12/27/2020 7:56 PM glory by the city of Yakima in collaboration with a non profit organization - The Capitol Theatre Committee. The non profit continues to run the theatre which is owned by the city of Yakima

100 The tree in the round about on Lee at the parkade 12/27/2020 7:30 PM

101 Bench’s and other things that enhance the area they are located. 12/27/2020 7:28 PM

102 I like on the street music performances, where some people get together, start playing some 12/27/2020 7:11 PM music, and everyone joins in on the fun and like starts dancing

103 Murals on the side of buildings to make a place feel lived in and loved. 12/27/2020 7:06 PM

104 Wrapped Traffic utility boxes 12/27/2020 6:42 PM

105 Richland is the abyss of . Nothing I have seen even resembles good public art. See the 12/27/2020 5:13 PM bean

106 Most other metro areas have large colorful murals on buildings and have their utility boxes 12/27/2020 2:19 PM painted by local artists. I was disappointed to see that Richland's version of the utility box art was a black and white wrap of old Richland, this place could really use some color.

107 The roundabout by STCU in Southridge 12/27/2020 1:58 PM

108 I would love more murals under bridges or on walls. Also somewhere dedicated to theater and 12/27/2020 11:17 AM dance.

114 Reading statue outside the library...beautiful, classical, and fits the space 12/26/2020 6:37 PM

115 Grandfather cuts loose the ponies (Wild Horses Monument.) I have great memories of hiking 12/26/2020 6:32 PM up as a kid. Beautiful, meaningful art, and a beautiful view as well. I also really love Olaffur Eliason’s Waterfall installations. They are temporary works or art in existing waterways.

116 incorporating moving water, e.g. series of waterfalls, mini river and 12/26/2020 6:00 PM sculptures in Vancouver, WA and in Seattle.

117 The kids with the books in John Dam Plaza, the dog in the parkade. 12/26/2020 5:48 PM

118 The solar stage and the reactor water feature at the REACH Museum. They are visible from 12/26/2020 5:34 PM the water and up close, they tell a story, they were designed and created locally, and they draw people to our history in a very beautiful setting.

119 Art on buildings and around the city utility boxes, trails. Sculpture etc, that are from local artist 12/26/2020 5:08 PM even students from middle school, high school etc.

120 Fountains and sculptures of native history. Like Riverfront park in Spokane 12/26/2020 4:24 PM

121 Kennewick's painting/wrap of utility boxes. It just looks nicer than the standard neutral colors 12/26/2020 4:03 PM

122 12/26/2020 3:50 PM

123 Large building murals in general 12/26/2020 3:30 PM

124 I like more traditional sculptures of everyday life (bronze statutes.) 12/26/2020 2:46 PM

125 Tree in the parkway round about. For an area that is as dry as TC it is the best use of a long 12/26/2020 2:37 PM term eye sore. Don't plant things that aren't dessert sun tolerant or require an obscene amount of water to keep looking healthy.

126 Downtown Boise has done this really well--a mixture of scuplture, murals, wraps & art 12/26/2020 2:05 PM installations give the area a cool vibe.

127 Tree sculpture in roundabout at Lee & Richland parkade; Uptown murals; sculptural bike racks 12/26/2020 2:04 PM like in Coeur d' Alene, ID

128 Utility wraps 12/26/2020 1:54 PM

129 sculptures of fish on Canal Drive in Kennewick, painted art at the Uptown, roundabouts 12/26/2020 1:51 PM

134 Some of the Kennewick roundabout sculptures are beautiful works of art. They are creative 12/24/2020 2:09 PM and interesting to look at, and can be seen while driving. Let's redo our roundabout art in the City of Richland to something truly artistic and interesting to look at!

135 Stanley Park totem pole exhibition, Vancouver BC 12/23/2020 3:24 PM

136 Murals in the Uptown are great. Do art for art sake, not because it serves a utilitarian purpose 12/23/2020 1:25 PM like roundabouts or utility boxes. This is what develops culture. The great work

137 overall response to ranking: there is no favorite or least favorite. What I respond to may vary 12/22/2020 12:27 PM by day, mood, weather, etc. SImply having public art, especially which conveys whimsy or shows up in unexpected places, is always welcome.

138 The Bean in Chicago. Pedestrian bridges with awesome design and art (thinking of Austin 12/21/2020 7:14 PM Texas) --Could do across the Yakima river? Art along bike lanes, pedestrian trails.

139 What's in the roundabout at Lee Blvd, Richland - it adds interest to that location. 12/21/2020 6:51 PM

140 The children reading, sitting back to back, library Richland. The tree in center of roundabout, 12/21/2020 8:56 AM Parkway. Salmon, fountain, MacDonalds, Richland.

143 Love the uptown murals and the tree in the roundabout on Lee 12/17/2020 4:00 PM

144 There was a group that used to meet at Howard Amon park to play bagpipes. 12/17/2020 1:36 PM

145 The metal roundabout sculptures at the corner of Olymic and 45th in Kennewick- proportional, 12/17/2020 1:01 PM eye-catching and whimsical

146 The most notable always seem to be sculptures, like the LOVE sculpture in Philadelphia, 12/17/2020 11:14 AM Cloud Gate in Chicago, or the in Seattle. The smaller details incorporated into everyday items like the new fish fencing along George Washington Way near downtown or painted utility boxes are more subtle but provide a sense of place.

147 I enjoy the fake trees in the middle of the roundabout on Steptoe Ave and 10th Ave in 12/17/2020 10:09 AM Kennewick. It is colorful and simple, and not distracting.

148 Performance-broadway shows and dance-each performance is unique, employs many artists 12/17/2020 9:02 AM and give many people opportunity to participate, love music, performance aspect

149 Adventures underground mural 12/17/2020 8:22 AM

150 The Uptown murals are absolutely my favorite. I love the colors and the style. People come to 12/17/2020 8:06 AM take pictures at the Uptown and stay to shop. I also like the new utility wraps- while they're not my preferred art, I do think they do a great job of taking something ugly and boring and making it look nice.

151 I like the fountain in front of the new Richland City building. Clever, unique 12/17/2020 7:51 AM

152 I love seeing bronze sculptures in communities. 12/17/2020 7:49 AM

153 Art created by students. Having high school and college students design and create art and to 12/17/2020 7:43 AM help support their art programs

154 Art mural at adventures underground 12/17/2020 7:25 AM

155 I love building murals because they make an area looked cared about in a more substantial 12/17/2020 1:37 AM way than "The city wants art I guess, let's put a sculpture on the sidewalk and be done with it." They have a chance to tell a story and add loveliness to older buildings!

156 LED lights on Bay Bridge, San Francisco, CA. Would be very cool on our bridge(s) 12/16/2020 12:36 PM

157 Natural art, such as beautiful landscaping. 12/16/2020 9:12 AM

158 Functional art. 12/14/2020 11:58 PM

159 The MAC in Moses Lake 12/14/2020 4:50 PM

160 I like the "faucet" in front of city hall. I think it's fun. 12/12/2020 12:05 PM

161 Theater 12/11/2020 9:35 AM

162 Painted murals, the ones on the sides of uptown are beautiful 12/8/2020 2:43 PM

163 Graffiti murals (San Francisco, on trains, etc.) because I love the lettering/creative images and 12/8/2020 10:10 AM look of the spray paint. I love the Uptown's big murals, especially the Mid-Century one, which really celebrates Richland's atomic heritage. The playground art sculptures at Oak Park are so mid-centuryish with a powerful minimalist beauty and the love bench is even practical (COR).

164 the metal/glass tree in the parkway roundabout is BEAUTIFUL and I wish more of the 12/7/2020 6:59 PM roundabout artwork was like that. I love the murals on the buildings where people can take photos next to it, like Nashville has. I would love to see more of that. I also like practical art that isn't abstract. Make our city beautiful. We don't need ugly art.

165 Wall Street Fearless Girl Chicago milennial park Vigeland park oslo Albert Einstein Washington 12/7/2020 4:10 PM D.C.

166 The walk ways in NYC that bring back interest in an old industrial area. The parks and 12/7/2020 8:27 AM concerts in Europe.

167 The Waterworks sculpture at City Hall is probably my favorite artwork in Richland. My family 12/6/2020 4:50 PM

and I enjoy the in Seattle - it allows interaction with the outdoors and the artwork.

168 I love the public sculpture park in downtown Des Moines! We should definitely square off a 12/5/2020 1:07 PM little section of downtown and do something similar!

169 Round about in Bend 12/5/2020 12:42 PM

170 at Howard among. Monument and hisrory. 12/5/2020 5:18 AM

171 There are some amazing metal recycled sculptures on display at a metal or plumbing business 12/4/2020 7:58 PM in Walla Walla that I still think of. They are so unique and playful and fun to see

172 Every year in Jackson Hole Wyoming artists come and compete in an ice competition. 12/4/2020 11:00 AM Some as high as 15 ft. And then they are left for the public to enjoy for a time. It’s incredible. I would love to see more of that kind of art

173 I love coming across the random sculpture in . Especially ones that highlight that 12/4/2020 8:18 AM region/town

174 I do like displays that have seating/park around them for people to sit/play/enjoy the art as well 12/4/2020 7:17 AM as enjoy it visually.

175 The tree in the parkway in Richland. It's beautiful, I don't really care for abstract art 12/4/2020 6:13 AM installations.

176 The ponds @ Old Mill District in Bend, Oregon - ponds are set up for learning fly fish 12/4/2020 6:10 AM casting...benches for eating - generally a nice looking, relaxing area

177 I love open spaces with well placed items, like the pompy’s Info rocks on the trail. I really wish 12/4/2020 2:46 AM that the City would keep the land where City Hall was and develop a walking path and a kind of arboretum on that sight. I lived in the greater Boston area for awhile. Our town had a city square that was a little more protected than what Richland has, but they often had parades and city events and concerts there. There was one small section where they had a doll parade each year. It was soooo adorable. It was only about 50 m long. There are many things I think the City is doing well with.

178 The tree at Lee and the Parkway 12/3/2020 9:37 PM

179 The tree at the roundabout. It signifies the park for me. 12/3/2020 8:56 PM

180 Large interactive Sculpture - something that engages kids and adults to experience. Think 12/3/2020 8:06 PM Giant Granite ball (Pacific Science center) or Hart Plaza in , MI, or The in Seattle

181 I love the murals to explore. I like the ability to have art walks and an art district. 12/3/2020 5:31 PM

182 The Richland Uptown is a great example! 12/3/2020 5:23 PM

183 The Back Alley Art Collective (specifically the Freak Alley Gallery) of Boise. It is a fantastic 12/3/2020 4:59 PM showcase of a myriad of artistic style and expression that is not constrained in theme or size by city mandates and creates a wonderful walkable district that drives foot traffic to surrounding local business.

184 Live musicians and artisans at Uptown’s Art Walk 12/3/2020 4:40 PM

185 Howard Amon sculptures 12/3/2020 4:10 PM

186 Jeremy Raymer, a public artist does huge murals in Pittsburgh PA and they are amazing! 12/3/2020 3:42 PM

187 I think Bend, Oregon is a good example for roundabout art. 12/3/2020 2:25 PM

188 River Walk includes Howard Amon Park. More sculptures and more benches, please. 12/3/2020 2:19 PM

189 Murals on the side of buildings give a community vibrancy. 12/3/2020 1:47 PM

190 In 2010, the Port commissioned local artist Heather Söderberg of Söderberg Bronze Works 12/3/2020 11:54 AM Inc. to create two bronze sculptures of Sacagawea and the dog Seaman, of Lewis and Clark history. These two figures have historical significance in the area—Cascade Locks was a noted stop on Lewis and Clark’s trail. These sculptures are located in the roundabout adjacent to the Visitor’s Center. Heather’s stunning work set in such a beautiful location creates a site that will be treasured for years to come.

195 Bridge railings that combine form and function, seen by all as they drive on interstates. I 84 12/3/2020 10:54 AM near Yakima, and another near Pendleton.

196 I love love love the Goethals nature park. I realize this isn’t a textbook definition of “art” but it 12/3/2020 10:44 AM is esthetically pleasing and speaks to the kid in all of us. The layout is so creative and beautiful. Very fun, loved, and enjoyed by so many!!

197 None 12/3/2020 10:35 AM

198 Tree sculpture in parkway roundabout. Also like sculptural bike racks like in Coeur d' Alene, ID. 12/3/2020 10:21 AM

204 I love the tree sculpture at the roundabout where the farmers market in Richland is next to 12/3/2020 5:40 AM greenies

205 I like it when art shows what's important to the community, like our rivers, desert, and sunshine 12/3/2020 12:58 AM are important here along with culture and everything that binds the people in our community together.

206 I think Rochestet, NY is a good example of a place that has tied their unique history together 12/3/2020 12:51 AM with public art: murals, lamp posts, and statues

207 Salmon sculpture over the Steptoe Bridge. Salmon are part of Washington. 12/2/2020 8:29 PM

208 Several pieces at Seattle Center. 12/2/2020 8:23 PM

209 book benches 12/2/2020 7:34 PM

210 Our family really likes the fountain in front of the new city hall. Repurposing old things or bits of 12/2/2020 7:32 PM history to make something new, memorable, and beautiful. Art that makes you ask questions! We also really like the monoliths and information about local birds in Goethals park. Live art performances, especially dance, are very appreciated.

14 Triumph Over Harmony sculpture at Roundabout in Kennewick,WA. The color scheme appears 1/13/2021 9:42 PM outdated.

15 The lighthouse on clover island, the roundabouts in south ridge, including the white stick 1/13/2021 9:02 PM humans, the weird rings at the courtyard Marriott, the ugly concrete warts with lessons on the bike trails.

16 I'm not a fan of replicas of works by masters or artists that are already well known. Most of 1/13/2021 7:51 PM what the rest of us desperately need is exposure. We need chances to be seen and public art is a great way to bring that. The more who can be included, the better.

17 The vinyl wraps I’d love to see art and fewer historical photos 1/13/2021 6:09 PM

18 The sculptures in the roundabouts because they are weird looking and if you are to make them 1/13/2021 4:03 PM not something abstract so we can know what it is as soon as we see it and something that actually means something to the community

19 The round about art near Queensgate. I like that there is art there but it is too small for the 1/13/2021 3:47 PM space and I think most people don't know the meaning of the piece and its relation to our area.

37 roundabout in Queensgate area...makes no sense in that spot because you can't study it while 1/12/2021 4:14 PM driving

42 The round about near queensgate that looks like a crumpled erector set- it’s scale and coloring 1/12/2021 1:41 PM are odd choices, it looks like an uncleared car accident/damaged road divider

43 Basalt columns 1/12/2021 1:37 PM

44 Murals on building walls. A building should look like a building, nothing more. 1/12/2021 9:51 AM

45 I only say the Art in the Round-a-bouts because they can only be enjoyed as you drive around 1/12/2021 9:33 AM the roundabout. Its not a piece you can interact with.

46 N/A 1/12/2021 9:18 AM

47 My least favorite example in Richland is the "Waves of Viticulture" at the queensgate 1/12/2021 8:51 AM roundabout. It is not to scale for the roundabout and it is not weathering well. And I often see tumbleweeds getting caught up in it.

51 The art in roundabouts near the Queensgate area because it doesn't seem to really tell any 1/11/2021 4:40 PM story, and appears to seem random.

52 I don’t really have a least favorite type of public art. 1/11/2021 3:38 PM

53 The new roundabout art near the Walmart/Target shopping area in Richland. It’s absolutely 1/11/2021 3:16 PM horrendous. It just looks like weird trash and picks up tumbleweeds. It would have been way cooler if the city hired local high schoolers or some other local group to design something.

54 None 1/11/2021 3:09 PM

55 It roundabout at I182 and Queens gate is boris. It catches toumble weed and looks like a 1/10/2021 11:01 AM bunch of garbage has been left there.

56 There seem to be a disproportionally large number of memorial plaques, in comparison to other 1/9/2021 7:05 PM types of public art, and few of them are constructed to provide any background or context for the person memorialized. As a result, most of them have little or no meaning except to a small number of people. Most of them also contain no specific art component. Memorial plaques should either contain some actual art component, or provide information on the person memorialized and their importance to the community, or both.

57 Roundabouts—-I love the concept but not some of the sculptures out there. I wish there were 1/9/2021 8:10 AM non-neutral colors and less sharp edges

58 The metal flowers in the round about in Kennewick. Don’t be trite. Don’t be afraid to tell artists 1/8/2021 9:38 PM

that their idea is lame. Not every piece of art needs to represent the area, the rivers, wind, wine, hanford, wildlife etc. Many fabulous famous pieces of art around the world add a new story to the environment.

59 Art should not be limited. The more the better. We need more color in the tri-cities. 1/8/2021 10:08 AM

60 The Queensgate roundabout art near Tagaris. It looks literally like garbage. If someone was 1/8/2021 9:20 AM traveling through from out of the area, I don't think it would be identifiable as to what it is or what it represents, therefore not being memorable or really adding value to the community. Supporting ALL art is important, but I feel we can do better for the pieces placed in the middle of roundabouts.

61 The art piece at the queens gate roundabout. That’s about it. Mostly art without depth. I would 1/7/2021 9:47 PM welcome art with meaning, aesthetic execution and appropriate content. Something uniquely executed by an artist and unexpected by the masses would be great

62 Gum wall 1/7/2021 6:36 PM

63 round about art that blocks views across intersection, statues at schools that are unsafe for 1/7/2021 11:31 AM kids to be near

64 installations in Queensgate roundabouts 1/5/2021 7:46 AM

65 Queensgate roundabouts look awful! Plain rocks would be better than tangled metal rust 1/4/2021 6:07 PM catches tumbleweeds and bags.

66 Current city signage 1/2/2021 11:13 PM

67 the bridge wall that I mentioned, I understand the concept of blending with the hillside shapes, 12/28/2020 5:16 PM just think the final product may not have matched the intent

68 I am not a fan of the roundabout art, but I think that's specific to the Tri-Cities. I would love to 12/28/2020 4:37 PM see that change in time as the arts commission see's a need. Big, bold, sturdy, modern, and understandable.

69 Art that you cannot easily see or understand when placed at areas of high doors or lots of 12/28/2020 3:43 PM traffic. Ex: Tiny fish in median on canal Drive in Kennewick. And tiny hard-to-see silver art in Queensgate roundabout

70 Round about art in Richland...too small and abstract. Kennewick, on the other hand, has big, 12/28/2020 2:09 PM bold displays that are more suited to the setting.

71 It is boring and it is hardly ever weeded in the roundabout. 12/28/2020 1:14 PM

72 All has value. Sometimes the little gems like the painted angel wings make a difference 12/28/2020 12:42 PM

73 Art in roundabouts. So far, it's not been impressive locally. Money would better be spent on 12/28/2020 10:20 AM reflective strips around the roundabout so people can see the border of it at night. Specifically the one at Columbia Park Trail and Queensgate.

74 The roundabout at Queensgate freeway entrance. Looks like a tangled mess of rebar and wire. 12/28/2020 8:20 AM

75 Round-a-Bout garbage. 12/27/2020 11:23 PM

76 The roundabout sculptures in the tri cities are absolutely awful. Cold and stale, can’t tell what 12/27/2020 10:27 PM any of them are. Would be better served as tree/garden space or colorful art installations

77 Seattle public library. I like the glass but dislike the plantings outside -- too messy. I hate the 12/27/2020 8:52 PM garish colors on the inside; the extremely hard & uncomfortable seating inside & the exposed interior works. I loved the coziness of the big leather seating in the old library & beautiful dark wood. You could curl up & read a good book comfortably.

78 Very disappointed with much of the roundabout artwork in Richland 12/27/2020 8:14 PM

79 Some of the roundabout art is beautiful, but some isn’t. Queensgate roundabout looks like a 12/27/2020 8:06 PM heap of metal, and it wasn’t created locally.

80 Queensgate round about “art” ! 12/27/2020 7:38 PM

81 All the other round about art is awful. Prefer art reflective of nature and from local artists 12/27/2020 7:30 PM

83 If the City of Richland considers the dark blue on Black signage that is unreadable art, then 12/27/2020 7:22 PM that is my least favorite. Ugliest thing next to the roundabout art I have ever laid my eyes on. Next would be roundabout art. The Queensgate art, purple vagina and S&M barbed wire is a travesty!!

84 Round about art when we could plant trees instead 12/27/2020 7:06 PM

85 Roundabouts 12/27/2020 6:42 PM

86 The metal fountain in front of the new City Hall. City Hall is a cold, rectilinear glass and metal 12/27/2020 6:12 PM building. We did not need more metal in front of it. I think your sculpture should contrast and complement the thing it’s in front of. Something with wood, something with plants, something green, something growing would’ve been preferable I think.

87 That stupid red thing in John Dam plaza. 12/27/2020 5:13 PM

88 We hate the rusty sewer pipe "fountain" in front of city hall, and we still don't know what the 12/27/2020 2:19 PM sharp pointy shiny metal things in the middle of the roundabouts are supposed to look like. Maybe clouds?

89 We have enough basalt installments. 12/27/2020 11:17 AM

90 The sculpture in the roundabout on Queensgate that is constructed of wood and metal is not 12/27/2020 8:14 AM proportional to the space it occupies.

91 The Queensgate roundabout 12/27/2020 7:59 AM

92 Round about metal structures on Queensgate. Both are totally out of scale and plain ugly. 12/26/2020 9:54 PM They also look dangerous.

93 Ones that make noise. 12/26/2020 7:20 PM

94 Not necessarily art, but the digital billboard on the side of the flash cube building. (I couldn't 12/26/2020 6:45 PM think of anything else).

95 Queensgate roundabout art... I do not understand or enjoy it 12/26/2020 6:37 PM

96 I’m so sick of salmon and grapes. It’s lazy and trite. 12/26/2020 6:32 PM

97 Large metal red/white flowers in Kennewick roundabout on Ridgeline Dr.; colors clash with 12/26/2020 6:00 PM environment and shapes aren't natural; looks cartoonish.

98 The obscene artwork that was in the Pasco government buildings that had to be removed and 12/26/2020 5:48 PM then the artists sued because they felt they had a right to show obscene stuff to the public.

99 The wire features in the Queensgate roundabouts, that look half built, have no meaning, do not 12/26/2020 5:34 PM add to the landscape. They are a distraction and not an attraction.

100 The roundabouts at Queensgate are positively awful-not art, not aesthetically pleasing, and 12/26/2020 5:07 PM visually distracting in the worst possible way while driving. If the city spent any more than a few hundred dollars on these “sculptures”, then we all got robbed.

101 Traffic circle at Queensgate and the highway. It's ugly and not a local artist. 12/26/2020 4:45 PM

102 Roundabout art. People should focus on driving and are often distracting and makes seeing 12/26/2020 4:28 PM cars harder.

103 Round a bouts. 12/26/2020 4:27 PM

104 Interpretive art in roundabouts. Interpretive art should be pondered on. Round about art should 12/26/2020 4:24 PM be distinct and simple.

105 Modern sculptures that look like the left-overs from a building being torn down. I think we 12/26/2020 4:03 PM almost had one of those near the dock at Howard Amon Park before it was stopped for being ugly.

106 Vinyl - I believe it is not a true art form. 12/26/2020 3:50 PM

107 The rings outside of hampton inn area along the trail. It's just a dumb sculpture. 12/26/2020 2:37 PM

109 Roundabout art on Queensgate; Any installations that are not maintained (example roundabout 12/26/2020 2:04 PM art/landscaping in Kennewick near mall, weeds always growing in the roundabouts).

110 Far out or extremely progressive but useless structures. 12/26/2020 1:54 PM

111 The weird stuff in the queensgate roundabout. Does not make sense. 12/26/2020 1:40 PM

112 Roundabouts, pure ugly. 12/26/2020 1:39 PM

113 Murals 12/26/2020 1:23 PM

114 I hate the art in circles/rotaries/roundabouts. Who has time to actually look at them when 12/26/2020 1:16 PM driving around? no one I know of unless the stop. It is a waste of money. Put some native low growing plants or rocks there instead.

115 Loud outdoor performances 12/26/2020 12:50 PM

116 Temporary public art. Invest public funds into permanent public art. 12/24/2020 2:09 PM

118 roundabout at Queensgate 12/23/2020 6:39 AM

119 The red sculpture and the round orb sculpture in John Dam Plaza. 12/21/2020 8:56 AM

120 The ugly metal tree at the round about at the parkway. The real tree gave so much more shade 12/19/2020 10:26 PM and it was so beautiful. I propose we move the one that's there now somewhere else and put in a big real tree back again.

121 Can't think of anything in particular 12/18/2020 7:42 PM

122 Round about on Queensgate 12/17/2020 4:00 PM

123 The art at the roundabouts at Queensgate Drive and Columbia Park Trail... unimaginative and 12/17/2020 1:01 PM disproportionate for the size of the roundabouts and boring

124 The "Fountain of Music" or whatever the 'name' is for the mangled rebar that resides on 12/17/2020 10:09 AM Queensgate drive. The two tones of gravel laid look unlevel, and the steel sculpture is odd, very odd. I believe the height of it also blocks the view of the oncoming traffic on the other side of the roundabout. I am filling this out because of it. I would really appreciate taking it down and lowering the height of the gravel and placing some kind of concrete or painted steel object in the middle to secure the safety of the roundabout that is something closer to reality, not a stretch of rebar and call it a fountain when it is junk. Thank you.

125 I can't really think of any- I guess anything that is broken or damaged and left makes the town 12/17/2020 8:06 AM look old and battered.

126 Queensgate roundabouts 12/17/2020 7:51 AM

127 Round about art can be cool but most of the time it is too abstract and ours in Richland are like 12/17/2020 7:49 AM this. I don't like to look and wonder and guess what something is while driving. I want to know what it is and appreciate it.

128 Abstract art making a statement but nobody knows what it is 12/17/2020 7:43 AM

129 Performing arts are largely inaccessible to low income families here. We also do little to 12/17/2020 5:03 AM engage minority youth from the surrounding area in culturally responsive performing arts

130 The "why is this even here" statues. Downtown Kennewick is a good example of this; there's a 12/17/2020 1:37 AM different sculpture on every crossway, but they're not cohesive! Also, I'm not a fan of local art that doesn't come from local denizens. If there are no local artists, it's understandable, but local public art should support local artists!

131 Round about Art, especially in Richland has been too contemporary. 12/16/2020 9:12 AM

132 I very much dislike the artwork in the roundabouts at the Queensgate exit. 12/15/2020 9:40 PM

133 Ignoring local input about public art 12/14/2020 4:50 PM

134 The Queensgate Roundabouts, especially the one closest to Walmart is ugly in the extreme. 12/12/2020 12:05 PM The other one is sort of ugly. I certainly hope no one was paid for those atrocities. Removing

them, especially the short one, would be a great improvement. I have heard only negative comments about them, especially the short one!

135 Tiny Art on Round A Bout on Queensgate 12/11/2020 9:35 AM

136 Everything they put in the round abouts is hideous! Funny acorns and dirt devils look like 12/8/2020 2:43 PM metal garbage.

137 The metal fish sculpture on the Queensgate roundabout is somewhat tacky and distracting. 12/8/2020 10:10 AM

138 the art in the two Queensgate roundabouts is SO BAD. I am appalled every time I drive past it. 12/7/2020 6:59 PM I am disappointed in how unappealing it is, how much it cost and it didn't even support a local artist. Sell it back to Portland and install something aesthetically pleasing, please.

139 Some of our traffic circle scultures are evocative of a barrel of farm We need to keep our 12/7/2020 4:10 PM eyes on traffic and road anyway.

140 The two roundabouts at Queensgate are embarrassing. It’s an entrance point to the City and 12/7/2020 8:27 AM the first impression to my out of town friends. Nothing would be better.

141 Mimes. They're creepy. 12/6/2020 4:50 PM

147 The stuff in the roundabouts is invariably truly ugly. 12/4/2020 10:52 AM

148 While I love roundabout sculptures, the grapes missed the mark. 12/4/2020 8:18 AM

149 The art in the roundabout on queensgate, it just looks like a bunch of metal scattered about, 12/4/2020 6:13 AM plus the artist isn't local which is not acceptable. Richland needs to support local artists.

150 Too much, too busy, too far from nature (if outdoors) 12/4/2020 2:46 AM

151 The roundabouts at Queensgate an Columbia part trail and the freeway. They just look like 12/3/2020 9:37 PM metal junk. They’d be great in a place where they are st against greenery and you can see them up close v

152 any random art sculptures that are stagnate and do not allow human interaction like touching, 12/3/2020 8:06 PM going through, climbing on. It must inspire the person in through action. Make it a big name artist.

153 We have always wondered about the queensgate round-about art. It looks like someone took 12/3/2020 7:32 PM tin snips to some aluminum sheeting and had a day project created for the round-about.

154 Roundabout stupidity. What the hell is that thing on queensgate supposed to be. Is that the 12/3/2020 5:31 PM best we could do?

155 The roundabouts near queensgate are hideous. 12/3/2020 5:23 PM

156 Vinyl box wrappings in Kennewick. The idea is certainly a positive one but is implicated poorly 12/3/2020 4:59 PM by being heavily constraining to the artist in terms of theme, forcing boring and uninspired pieces.

157 Traffic circles-I just don’t have the opportunity to see or discuss with others because of the 12/3/2020 4:40 PM brief and mostly inaccessible nature of traffic circles

158 Round about art - I really want the other drivers paying attention to driving and NOT looking at 12/3/2020 4:38 PM art.

159 Some of the round abouts that are hard to see while driving (Queens gate ones are too small 12/3/2020 4:10 PM and hard to see details)

160 Queensgate roundabout 12/3/2020 3:42 PM

23 / 69 2020 Richland, WA Public Art Survey SurveyMonkey

161 Richland's roundabouts in Queensgate has more crosswalk signage than necessary. It's filled 12/3/2020 2:25 PM with crosswalk signage and hardly anyone uses that. It's ridiculous how much crosswalk signage is there, you can see it from the top of Badger. And the roundabout art is tacky!

162 Abstract art in roundabouts. Yuk! 12/3/2020 2:19 PM

163 Art placed in roundabouts. I barely notice when the art installed in the Queensgate roundabout. 12/3/2020 1:47 PM

164 The "artwork" at the Queensgate roundabout looks like scrap metal. The fact that a local artist 12/3/2020 1:01 PM didn't make it is also very disappointing!

165 The Sacajawea sculpture at the Y in Richland. 12/3/2020 11:54 AM

166 The Bear at the uptown. It makes no sense for the area we're in. 12/3/2020 11:43 AM

167 Round about art 12/3/2020 11:25 AM

168 The queensgate roundabouts are atrocious and a slap in the face to local artists. 12/3/2020 11:02 AM

169 I hate when there is art in the round about that has a lot of planning going in and no 12/3/2020 10:44 AM maintenance. It begins to look worn and ragged, weeds growing everywhere, garbage...I realize they get used and it’s a safety issue to perform maintenance given the traffic but this really needs to be considered before spending funds there.

170 In round abouts. Blocks view 12/3/2020 10:35 AM

171 Do not like sculptures at Queensgate roundabouts. Also do not like when art installations are 12/3/2020 10:21 AM put in place, but then are not maintained or landscaped around them.

172 Sweaters on trees 12/3/2020 10:16 AM

173 The art placed in the round-a-bouts on Queensgate are poor...especially the one that is 12/3/2020 10:09 AM supposed to represent our wine industry. Looks like something out of a grade school art project.

174 Bronze realistic sculptures 12/3/2020 9:58 AM

175 182/Queensgate Dr. roundabouts 12/3/2020 9:48 AM

176 Roundabout art in Queensgate area. Way too small for the space and it just looks like trash. 12/3/2020 9:42 AM

177 I really enjoy all public art. The only thing that makes me sad is when it is not maintained. 12/3/2020 8:59 AM

178 Anything in a roundabout. The worst is the queensgate/duportail arrs roundabout. What are 12/3/2020 6:15 AM those, gears?

179 Historic markers, as noted on the Facebook page. Particularly those which honor white 12/3/2020 5:41 AM supremacists and traitors to America.

180 The “art” in the new roundabouts up by queens gate look like scrap/random junk. I was very 12/3/2020 5:40 AM disappointed to see them placed there.

181 Least favorite-when art is so abstract that it's confusing and there's no explanation about why 12/3/2020 12:58 AM it's made the way it is close to where it is placed.

182 The art on Queensgate round about. It looks unfinished. When you live in the area & don’t 12/2/2020 8:29 PM know what it represents, I’m not sure the art presents well.

183 The mural on Vinnie's Bakery in Pasco where the city ordinance declared it "too large" and 12/2/2020 8:23 PM ordered it painted over. Not the fault of the art, the fault of the city for having no accommodation for art.

184 The Queensgate round-about sculptures/debris 12/2/2020 7:34 PM

185 Abstract art is unappealing 12/2/2020 6:52 PM

186 I'm sorry to say this, but I really dislike the art in the roundabout on Queensgate. While driving, 12/2/2020 5:28 PM it looks like barbed wire on fence posts. I'm not even sure what it's supposed to be. In contrast, the roundabout art at the Parkway is colorful and beautiful.

# OTHER (PLEASE SPECIFY) DATE 1 establish a public building or stage where open mics can be held allowing local bands to share 1/15/2021 12:52 PM their music and songs

2 I think art should be everywhere 1/15/2021 12:48 PM

3 Especially in the down town area it is one of the most recognizable areas in Richland 1/14/2021 1:45 PM

4 I dont think we should actually be spending money on this, I'm just filling this out becasue it's 1/14/2021 1:41 PM an assignment and if we do spend too much money on it that it will be better than worse.

5 High foot traffic places are best. 1/13/2021 9:02 PM

6 Everywhere so people can see what the true meaning of art is and cherish the memories or 1/13/2021 2:29 PM pictures.

7 Everywhere! 1/13/2021 8:33 AM

8 Where it doesn’t make political statements 1/13/2021 7:28 AM

9 Not by freeways 1/12/2021 8:27 PM

10 Big murals around the city. And potentially in the skate park. 1/11/2021 9:01 PM

11 I feel murals on and in buildings are the way to go. That way we won't have to worry about 12/28/2020 10:20 AM vandalism too much.

12 Everywhere, as long as it isn't uninspired dreck. 12/27/2020 5:13 PM

13 bridges, overpasses, lightposts, sports fields 12/26/2020 6:00 PM

15 Everywhere 12/23/2020 9:29 PM

16 Public art above major street signs is a delightful surprise 12/23/2020 3:24 PM

17 Keep in balance; too much public art becomes clutter. 12/21/2020 8:56 AM

18 In public buildings 12/14/2020 4:50 PM

19 I would hesitate to put art along the river. Keep it natural. Put the art in the park - grassy area. 12/4/2020 7:17 AM

20 Wherever the public can interact with it. Please no boring monument that 10 people might find 12/3/2020 8:06 PM interesting. Be a little edgy!

21 If by river, it should be mindful of impacting nature and other citizens’ river uses. The river may 12/3/2020 4:40 PM serve better for temporary art installations

# OTHER (PLEASE SPECIFY) DATE 1 purchase a stage or auditorium that doesnt cost a million dollars to turn on so musicans can 1/15/2021 12:52 PM have live open mic nights

2 Around most entrances and exits, helps pull in tourists and rises the sentimental value to the 1/14/2021 1:45 PM people who have lived her there whole life.

3 It would be great if it’s placement added foot traffic to retail business and restaurants, like art 1/13/2021 9:02 PM in the parkway and the uptown does. Adding foot traffic to the GWW Columbia point intersection isn’t a good thing.

4 What is monumental/ iconic? In what way? 1/13/2021 7:28 AM

5 With large installments, theres the opportunity to also give back to the environment or to make 1/12/2021 2:02 PM it interactive for the community

6 I think it would have to be really big though. I kind of like the idea of having a HUGE statue. 1/12/2021 9:18 AM And I mean it when I say huge. It would draw in a lot of visitors and would "put us on the map" so to speak.

7 “Need” and “large” are more subjective than some art 1/7/2021 2:13 PM

8 Near places where many people gather. Howard Amon Park, Gway, John Dam Plaza, the 1/7/2021 2:11 PM parkway

9 Don’t waste anymore tax payers dollars on art. Allow people’s and businesses to donate it. But 1/7/2021 9:08 AM don’t buy it.

10 Roundabouts. Intersections. High traffic areas so people will see it often. 1/2/2021 11:13 PM

11 Most important aspect in siting is the art itself. 12/28/2020 5:19 PM

12 If it is feasable, place it somewhere where it would be less likely to be vandalized. We really 12/28/2020 10:20 AM should focus on employing and giving a purpose to local artists.

13 Seriously, you want to attach a big public art piece to a place nobody wants to go? Keep public 12/27/2020 5:13 PM art accessible by the public.

14 in parks 12/27/2020 1:58 PM

15 Large iconic artwork should beautify spaces in and around town that are eye sores along major 12/26/2020 5:34 PM walkways or to places we v want people to travel between - such as connecting Uptown and the Parkway

16 John Dam has become the cities main plaza. 12/26/2020 4:24 PM

17 would prefer more smaller artwork 12/26/2020 12:50 PM

18 I'd rather see many small pieces than invest in one large piece 12/22/2020 12:27 PM

19 Parks or plazas are probably better locations than near a city building or facility - maybe the 12/18/2020 7:42 PM Community center. There should be public art space IN city buildings Rotating / changing displays loaned by artists or from the state or perhaps museums have loaner programs.

20 Art at one of the gateway places specified doesn't seem like it would let people interact with it. 12/6/2020 4:50 PM That is more branding than art.

21 Some where unexpected but not in a round about, drivers don't need to be contemplating the 12/5/2020 2:45 AM meaning of a piece while trying to merge

22 If it is large and iconic, people need to walk to it (selfies) 12/4/2020 8:18 AM

23 Be edgy, be creative, be expressive for the sake of art and nothing else. We already have 12/3/2020 8:06 PM serious-type monuments. Forget WWII and nuclear, lets move on.

24 Unexpected places to bring people to businesses that are forgotten. Like the Lee roundabout at 12/3/2020 3:42 PM the parade. That draws attention to those businesses

25 The location needs to depend on the type of art 12/3/2020 2:53 PM

26 Frequently visited community spaces 12/3/2020 2:25 PM

27 I don't think we need another big art piece just to have art, but if one is chosen, I ranked the 12/3/2020 12:58 AM other three options from favorite to least favorite.

28 Anywhere people are walking; out of their cars. 12/2/2020 8:23 PM

28 The spirit of the artists creating it. I don't think artwork should be made according to the limited 1/13/2021 7:51 PM history, landscape, or functions of a town or area. 187 Nature 12/21/2020 8:56 AM

188 Art doesn't have to reflect anything to be appreciated but it could reflect the Columbia river and 12/19/2020 10:26 PM water. We need art just for arts sake.

189 an appreciation of art. So appeal to a variety of opinions and ideas. Art should make people 12/18/2020 7:42 PM think and react, and it can be with joy, or wonder, or distaste or even anger.

190 The work of normal people. To often art is seen as something that is complex. Sometimes we 12/17/2020 1:36 PM need to celebrate the amateur artist that lives their dream while making a living rather then a "profesional".

191 Native people's link to the area, ties to Hanford Nuclear and the Columbia River activities like 12/17/2020 1:01 PM Hydros and kayaking/fishing and our vast outdoor recreation activities

192 our identity as a community, so bringing in aspects that reflect the location, nature, history, 12/17/2020 11:14 AM people, etc.

193 History, Agriculture, and Modernism; such as, art related to Hanford, art related to plants and 12/17/2020 10:09 AM crops from the area, and in a simple and colorful way that is not distracting and sticking out in streets and intersections.

194 A since of community and an identity outside of WWII efforts. So much of the Richland 12/17/2020 8:06 AM community is focused on the war effort that not everyone is proud of or can identify with. That is an important part of Richland history, but it's not the only thing Richland can be proud of.

195 All different types of art - we don't need to reflect any one thing. 12/17/2020 7:49 AM

209 Richland and creativity and not be so abstract it’s an eyesore 12/8/2020 2:43 PM

# OTHER (PLEASE SPECIFY) DATE 1 Art affects our quality of life. We should all be investing in it. I’d like to see the county help use 1/13/2021 9:02 PM property taxes to more equitably the burden.

2 Every body need to support artist and art, all government institutions, and all people who can 1/12/2021 2:36 PM do it

3 Fundraisers/drives that could allow community members to donate for specific 1/12/2021 2:02 PM pieces/ideas/murals etc.

4 Art in all great lands has been publicly supported. Like roads, water and education. 1/2/2021 11:13 PM

5 Diversified funding strengthens the program 12/29/2020 12:34 PM

6 I personally don't mind having taxes be put towards the arts, but also understand why others 12/28/2020 4:37 PM may feel differently. So I also believe the private sector should play a big role in funding.

7 I have no idea. This is all new to me. 12/27/2020 7:00 PM

8 A percentage of project building cost should be reserved for art- public and privss as the 12/26/2020 9:54 PM construction

9 Should have a percentage of private and public money. 12/26/2020 4:24 PM

10 Art is important. It should be supported with public funding as it enriches communites. I didn't 12/18/2020 7:42 PM rank tourism as a reason to have art. That may be 'icing' if it does. But the interest and pleasure of our residents shoudl be the primary reason to pay for and promote the arts.

11 Equally by all public and private 12/17/2020 8:43 PM

12 Federal grants and tourism(such as river cruise industry and airport) 12/3/2020 4:40 PM

13 Public funding should only be for land and access 12/3/2020 10:35 AM

14 We all know there is a pandemic. We don't know how long it will continue. But, please, help us 1/13/2021 7:51 PM find a way to showcase local artists and bring them business and exposure again. Missing out on all of our markets and events last year was devastating, both mentally and financially (though we understood). If we found a way to do farmers markets, could we find a way to do outdoor artist events too?

16 I think that murals done by painters from all ages should be done to show that no matter the 1/13/2021 4:03 PM age you can enjoy painting. I also think that there should be more art galleries for people to submit their art into no matter if its a sculpture, a canvas painting, or . Art galleries that are free to go to and easy to enter in would be an amazing thing for artists who want to make some extra money on the side or for their full-time job.

17 an art show would be a great start for all ages young and old. 1/13/2021 2:29 PM

18 I think that the focus should be on the outdoor areas for public art. Most people enjoy spending 1/13/2021 2:24 PM time outside, best example is Howard Amon park in the summer.

46 We need a decent place to show films. As the last President of the Tricity Film Club, losing 1/10/2021 2:10 AM the auditorium at Battelle was major blow to our club and impacted our ability to show films. We tried at the library but it was very difficult due to library hours, having to set up chairs before and take down, etc. We also need sponsored studio space where we can have artists of a wide variety take up "artist in residence" type blocks of time for anywhere from 1 to 6 months or longer. People could visit these studios, see art making in action, and we could have artists offer workshops and classes as well. There are so many talented artists in sculpture, glass, metal work, jewelry design and manufacture, watercolor, oil and acrylic and all sorts of . Artists in performance , theater and dance could also do productions and workshops and classes. Artists could then develop a piece of community art to mark their time as an artist in residence, either as a permanent installation or performance or film.

61 I think that public art is great and I think that the city has a few great examples of public art, I 12/28/2020 5:16 PM think that it is easy as a resident to have existing works fade into the background, figuring out a new way to highlight existing art while growing the collection would be a benefit to the community.

62 I would love to see the Plan look forward- the future of Richland and being intentional with art. 12/28/2020 4:37 PM It seems a bit scattered and randomly pieced together at this point. I think some fresh visions of our art are needed and maybe looking at economic development plans to determine placement, vision, and how they can work WITH the art and not feel pieced together. (I think Boost Builds has been doing a great job at this with commercial development and their ideas.)

84 Public art should appeal to general population. Do not let a small group of elite artists decide 12/26/2020 4:03 PM on art to "educate the unwashed masses." It should be there for everyone to enjoy.

85 Get rid of handicap scoring for selecting public art. Just because someone had an installation 12/26/2020 4:02 PM shouldn't put new artists 10-20 points behind because they're trying for their first installation. Give local artists (Columbia Basin) preference points.

86 Please reach out to your non profit community art organizations such as allied arts and 12/26/2020 2:37 PM confluent space. They have amazing inspiration and people willing to make Richland a better place for everyone through art and education.

91 Look to the Kennewick Arts Commission as a good example. What the City of Richland did 12/24/2020 2:09 PM with the art in the Duportail roundabouts was a complete waste of money and a joke to many residents. They should be redone with more oversight.

96 Work in concert with the Parks and Rec crew. I would love to see more art everywhere. Some 12/21/2020 7:14 PM ideas, the power of art and symbol. For example, the pride people take in the atom bomb role at Hanford (e.g., the mushroom cloud of Richland HIgh school), but also how offensive that is to others (I taught English in Japan for two years and am a bit appalled by it). I understand both sides, but I think it could be an interesting event to discuss what that symbol (and a bunch of others from those days) means to different groups of people. Could to see it from both sides. I think more science as art (leveraging some of the awesome PNNL "Science as Art" entries). I live the library art stuff! Fantastic. Are there other areas where exhibits like that could exist?

97 Develop an Arts and Entertainment and Education area, with restaurants and lodging nearby, 12/21/2020 6:51 PM good transportation access, and tie in public art to integrate with that and/or be present there. Perhaps near The Reach. Perhaps in the city core. Step up Richland's game in our quality of life and attractiveness to conventions and appeal to people to live here.

98 The public art pieces should be of the highest exquisite extraordinary quality, creatively 12/21/2020 8:56 AM depicting understandable regional relationships with the area or its people. 100 It would be nice if Richland had neighborhoods like Seattle, Portland or Boise, and if the city 12/18/2020 7:42 PM and arts commission worked within the neighborhoods to create a unifying character within that district.

101 Having an art competition for high school and college students with the community voting for 12/17/2020 7:43 AM the winners. The money set aside for the art would go back into these art programs to support them (this could include welding, etc as well)

102 I believe that people want to see art, they want to experience it (visual, tactile, etc.), and they 12/17/2020 1:37 AM want it to feel relevant to them. Public art showcases the flavor of an area! I hope the arts commission will fund new pieces with this in mind instead of the tired "Welp, we have the budget for a statue, so I guess we should put one somewhere. Maybe a bunch of grapes or something."

103 Surveys of regional metropolitan communities (Greater Seattle, Portland, Spokane) and why 12/16/2020 12:36 PM people in those communities either visit Richland or why not? Where do they go (Walla Walla?), why not here?

104 Plan infrastructure around arts or vice versa. Integrate civil engineering with artistic 12/14/2020 11:58 PM considerations at an early phase of development.

105 years ago we hung our art work in Richland city Hall and now we can't even hang art work in 12/14/2020 4:50 PM the Community Center or the room where the Arts Commission meets. The excuses for this are absolutely inane.

106 Make sure you make good use of taxpayers' monies. Junk like at the Queensgate roundabout 12/12/2020 12:05 PM is not a good use of taxpayer money.

I also liked a hand drum installation at a park in Vancouver I visited awhile back. 111 A strong arts community is something that is attractive to new residents, businesses, and 12/6/2020 4:50 PM visitors. The arts communicate a sense of place and personality.

112 Please art celebrating science and history but not celebrating the atomic bomb, too intertwined 12/6/2020 12:18 AM with the deaths that it caused. I feel strongly that Richland needs a memorial to those killed by the bombs or other art reflecting the sadness that goes along with the great scientific progress that was made here

136 The bike trails have been getting used more during quarantine. It would be nice to see more 12/3/2020 8:59 AM garbage cans along the trail to curb the pollution and more beautifying along the trail. There are certain areas that are lovely, followed by areas that haven’t had anything but the trail installed.

137 More ways to enjoy art in our community with temperature controlled places (like a 12/3/2020 12:58 AM theater/performing arts center) that's not at a school.

138 A performing arts center located at the old city hall site would be a great investment! 12/3/2020 12:51 AM

139 Richland needs a percent-for-the-arts ordinance that actually generates funds. The first such 12/2/2020 8:23 PM ordinance was so narrowly written that no money was ever generated and the city removed it from the books. Elect a council that gives a damn about the need for art in the community.

140 It would have been nice to be notified that I was not selected for the commission. Poor 12/2/2020 7:34 PM communication is a problem. Also, consider having high school or university students create future projects.

141 I would like to see more art that sparks a critical debate about our history. 12/2/2020 5:52 PM

142 Please continue to support community festivals/music like Tumbleweed, Alive at Five, and the 12/2/2020 5:28 PM fall and holiday festivals.
