Dear Parishioners: Pastor’s Letter

Well, while springtime officially begins this week, as I write this letter, there is plenty of snow on the ground; I guess March is the “new February”! To re-phrase an old rhyme: Snow, snow go away. Come again next year!

Last Saturday evening, one of our parishioners, Jimmy Reilly, was named the Hibernian of the Year for the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 2, in Babylon. Jimmy and his wife Tessie, have been long time parishioners. This is a very well-deserved honor!

Last Saturday, our Parish hosted a St. Patrick-St. Joseph Day dinner dance; both ethnicities were represented as the party-goers could have great corned beef and/or pasta and chicken parmigiana. There was a live band and everyone had a good time. Such an endeavor takes a lot of time and effort. The dinner-dance was sponsored by the Rosary Christian Mothers and the Holy Name Society. While there was a great number of volunteers, I especially want to thank Claire McLoughlin, Maureen Hawkins, Angie Raia, Patty Zitani, Rita Vandenburg and Rob Natale, Bill Young and Gerry Fogarty.

As you know, we just completed our Parish Mission under the guidance of Jim Ryan. I hope you were able to attend the Mission. If not, we still have three more weeks of Lent, so keep your eyes on the prize: a close relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

As you know, we have new in the Diocese, Bishop John Barres. Bishop Barres has asked every Catholic to invite one other person to come home to the Catholic Church at Easter. We all know someone who no longer practices their faith; many times, these people live in our own home. Dare to invite them to come to church with you and allow God’s grace to touch their hearts.

As you know, many of us like watching television. I want to remind everyone of the two “Catholic” T.V. channels: TELECARE & EWTN. On Cablevision, they are on Channel 29 & 137 (TELECARE) and Channel 135 (EWTN). On FIOS TV, TELECARE is on Channel 296. You can also go to their websites: www.telecaretv.org or www.ewtn.com. Besides the Mass, there are a number of other very fine shows. Give it a try! Check out their schedules. I want to highlight the ability to “go to Mass” by watching it on T.V., especially if you are ill or home- bound.

Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.

In Christ,

Fr. Brian

PS: Don’t forget to come to a special Mass celebrated by Bishop John Barres this Monday, March 20 at 5:00pm in the Church. Pray with our new Bishop and greet him after Mass.

Second Collection: Catholic Relief Services Collection – March 26, 2017

Next week, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection (CRSC). Funds from this collection help provide food to the hungry, support to displaced refugees, and Christ’s love and re- spect to all people here at home and abroad. Next week, please give generously to the CRSC and help Jesus in disguise. Learn more about the collection at www.usccb.org/catholic-relief.

Church in Brentwood with Bishop Barres and all the parishes in Suffolk County in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. This is a very important step in the journey of the R.C.I.A. Alex to continue to remain “united with Christ and make progress in his efforts to love God more deeply.” The Church gives us this public and life-giving process DURING LENT so that Alex can be nourished and supported by our parish family. “Lent is a favorable season for opening the doors to all those in need and recognizing in them the face of Christ. Each of us meets people like this every day” -

Dear Friends:

During the special Lenten season, please allow me to share a special request with you. If you have never contributed to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, or if you haven’t contributed in a number of years, please consider making this the year that you join with me and other members of this Parish family and make a do- nation to the 2017 Appeal.

As you may already be aware, 100% of all the money raised by this fund helps support more than 60 pro- grams and services that the people of our church as well as all of the people on Long Island have come to rely on.

These programs include services to people in need; affordable housing for senior citizens; people with disa- bilities and our veterans, as well as formation of our priests, deacons, lay leaders, and young people. These are just a few of the programs that help make our church and this Island a vibrant and wonderful place to live.

But to help ensure that we can always serve those who come to us for aid, support and spiritual guidance, we need help from you!

If 100 of our parishioners, who have not supported us in the recent past, made a $25 contribution this year – think about how many more people we could help. If that amount is more than you can manage, consider $5 or $10. Every gift counts and makes a difference in the lives of others!

Growing with the Gospel the with Growing Sharing the Gospel

Jews didn’t usually like the people from Samaria, let alone visit one of their towns or talk to any of them. Men didn’t usually talk to women back then, either. When Jesus talked to the woman at the well, Jesus broke those silly rules. Jesus saw into the woman’s heart and knew that she need- ed God in her life. Jesus came to rescue her from sin. She was so happy that she invited everyone in her town to meet Jesus, too.

Mission for the Week

Ask God to open your heart so that you will be friends with other kids, no matter what they look like.

Prayer

Dear God, Thank you for caring about me, no matter where I live, and no matter what I have done wrong. Something to Draw

Draw a picture of Jesus talking to you at the grocery store.
