Reception Activities

Friday, 19th June

Good morning Reception,

Happy Friday!

Did you manage to stain your paper to make your WANTED posters? Did you add a sprinkle of coffee and turmeric to them to add different tones to it? Your paper should have air dried by now so remember to put it in the oven at the lowest temperature for 5 minutes and then are ready to write a description of The Gruffalo!

We don’t know about you but we’ve noticed we are humming away David’s Bowie ‘’ song. Is this happening to you?

Remember this is the link to the song so that you can listen to it and rehearse as much as you wish!

Space Oddity (by ) https://youtu.be/iYYRH4apXDo

We will also send you the lyrics to the song so that you can follow these.

Today we are including some ideas of what accessories you could make. We really would like this to be a fun experience for both you and your child so please let us know if you have any questions about it.

You will also receive more information regarding the logistics of our Online Summer concert.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Mrs. Shaw and Ms. Leniz

PS: Keep logging into Doodle maths and Bug Club and perhaps Reception will be on the top school league this week also!

Activity 1

How did your Story Maps go? Did you enjoy making them? We wonder what style you decided to use.

Have you told the story to anyone in your family? We heard many of you rehearsing for the “We’re Going on a Lion Hunt’ the other week. Perhaps you could give it a go at doing the same with this story! Who will you impress this time?

Once you feel you know the story to a T, we would love you to write it to us!

You might write one sentence. Perhaps two. You might write many sentences!

Need to remember what goes next? No problem! Have a look at your Story map or the one we made!

Remember that what’s important is that you enjoy this! You could pretend to be Julia Donaldson and wear your

‘writing glasses’ (like many authors do!)

You could also use your special home learning pencil we gave you (Yes! We love how much pride you take over that pencil!) and write away! 

Remember you have Phonics resources as well as high frequency words at the end of these home learning activities.

Send us your writing to [email protected] and we will post it in our Special

Activity 2

Ok. That’s it. It’s time we played a game with our favourite characters, don’t you think? You could use the illustrations of the book as an inspiration to design the walk that Mouse has in the Deep Dark Wood.

Who does Mouse meet first? Next? After that?

Ah, you know the story so well! That’s right!

This is a very simple journey of Mouse until he meets The Gruffalo. Can you see:

- Fox’s underground house?

- Owl’s treetop house?

- Snake’s logpile house?

o However this doesn’t quite look like a board game yet. What will we need to add to it? That’s right, we will need some numbers!

This is one of the amazing Gruffalo board games that can be purchased out there. However, we think you can make it look even better than this! 

How will you make the pathway?

What rewards/punishments does your Mouse go How will you make the numbers? though in its journey? Will they inside of circles like in this game? Does it trip over and fall 3 spaces backwards Does it find a little shortcut and jump 5 spaces forward?

Ok, now that you have the game, you will need to make Mouse! How will you make It and how will you distiguish each Mouse from another? What will you make these counters with?

You could use bottle tops.

Draw Mouse on a piece of card and glue

/sellotape it flat on the bottle top.

If you prefer to keep it standing, you could make a little flap on Mouse’s feet and glue/sellotape this instead.

You could use bottle corks

Draw Mouse on a piece of card and sellotape it to a toothpick.

Then you can stab the toothpick in the middle of the cork.

Finished? Great! Do you still have the dice you made the other day or do you need to make a new one? We will leave a template for you just in case you need one.

You might decide to only go forward the number of steps your die tells you (will it be numbers 1 to 6 or will it only be 1, 2 and 3? It’s up to you?

You might decide to play with two dice and the second one will the + and – symbols written on it so that you add or take away these number of steps.

Have fun!

Activity 3

As promised, here are just a few ideas of what you could do you create your Space outfit for the Online Summer Concert. As we always say, what’s important is that you enjoy the process. Your adult might support you but we wouldn’t want them to take over the entire project because it’s not them who are going to sing in this concert!

We’ve probably expecting something …rather than this. looking than this …

There’s one main question we would like you to ask yourself. Would you like to dress up as Major Tom or as someone from Ground Control? Once you are clear with this, then you can start asking yourself what you have in the house that might support you with the costume.

TOP TIP: As you probably already know, anything wrapped in foil makes things look really shiny and Spacey! 

helmet

Major Tom?

TOP TIP #2: Your adult could give it a go at making a design (like this one) and then you can think about what resources you could use to make your own version of it.

Ground Control?

Don’t have a headset?

Try making one with jar /plastic tub lids attached to a long strip of card.

You can then wrap it all with foil!

Want to add a David Bowie touch to your costume?

Want to add something in the background?
