Geomorphologist 1 (Time limited, Backfill Opportunity)

The Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) is the Tribal Council for the eight member communities of the Okanagan Nation which includes , , Upper and Lower Similkameen Indian Bands, Indian Band, , and the Colville Confederated Tribes of the Northern WA state. The ONA’s mandate is to advance, assert, support and preserve Okanagan Nation title and rights. Further, the ONA is charged with providing members with a forum to discuss and form positions on areas of common concern.

The ONA is currently seeking to employ a Geomorphologist 1. The job incumbent should be comfortable with contract management and providing scientific data and formulation and presentation of recommendations to an assigned Fisheries Biologist. The position holder will function in a fast paced results oriented environment. Excellent problem solving, communication and time management skills are essential to succeed in this position.

Key Duties and Responsibilities  Completion of assigned projects with incorporation of traditional ecological knowledge into assessments and reports.  Technical review and assessment of development plans to assess impact to fisheries resources and aquatic habitat.  Review and incorporation of current and new advances in fisheries and fluvial geomorphology operations.  Assist with drafting of work plans, purchasing of equipment, maintenance and creation of databases in hard copy or electronically.  Maintenance and safekeeping of sediment samples, sample archives, scientific equipment  Preparation and submission of project updates and contribution to scientific papers and reports. Qualifications and Experience

 A Bachelor of Science degree in geography/environment management/ water management with courses in fluvial geomorphologic dynamics.  Previous experience working with a First Nation band or within a First Nations environment is desirable.  Experience with scientific sampling theory and techniques would be an asset.  A reliable vehicle and a valid class 5 BC driver’s license.  Commitment to safety.  Flexible work hours/willingness to work evenings and weekends.  Preference will be given to qualified applicants of Aboriginal ancestry. Hours: Up to 40 hrs per week, with flexible work hours (e.g. some evenings and weekends).
