Forty-four of the best and brightest high school scholar-athletes from the Austin, Texas area were honored for their accomplishments. Former Longhorn player and two-time All-Big 12 Conference selection A recorded message from 2018 Hall of Fame Coach Mack Brown Cory Redding received the chapter’s Young American Award. Redding was played to the crowd. Brown coached the Texas Longhorns went on to a long career in the NFL before retiring in 2015. for 15 years before his retirement in 2013. Longhorn faithful enjoy the pre-banquet reception. Both Pro Hall of Fame kicker Morton Andersen (center) joins 2018 Hall of Fame electee Stinchcomb brothers were NFF National Scholar-Athlete Award winners from Coach Frank Beamer and UGA legend Vince Dooley. Georgia, Matt in 1998 and Jon in 2002. Matt won the 1998 NFF Campbell Trophy as the best scholar-athlete in the nation. DJ Lester from Clarke Central HS and Jerphari Colbert from Cedar Shoals HS were recipients of the Play It Smart Award and Parks Scholarship. Zable/San Diego Chapter Holds 46th Annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet The chapter honored 25 scholar-athletes for their accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and community. Chase Hartman (right) from the Los Angeles Chargers attended to recognize the Willie and Rosa Jones present the Willie Jones Most Inspirational Award to Chargers’ Coaches of the Week. The Chargers have been long-time supporters of Tysean White from St. Augustine High School. the San Diego Chapter and continue to support their programs. Presented by Texas Tech Chapter Distributes $54,000 in Scholarships at Sold-Out Event Twenty-two west Texas high school standouts and several collegiate award winners were honored and received a combined $54,000 in scholarships at the event in Lubbock. Mickey Long, member of the Texas Tech University Board of Regents, received the Distinguished West Texan Award from Texas Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt. Texas Tech head coach and 2002 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Award winner Kliff Kingsbury presented the Coach of the Year Award to Seth Parr from Lubbock Coronado.
