Background
Internally, we were curious about the apps and websites that the Netquest Behavioral Panelists were using in the US. Would there be a difference between the apps used on iOS versus Android versus Tab- let? We figured we weren’t the only people curious about app usage, so we’re sharing this behavioral data with you!
Research objectives
• With passive meter technology, collect behavioral data of panelists using iOS, Android, and Tablets, which included browsing activity and app usage.
• Analyze the behavioral data to generate a list of the most visited apps for each category of device: iOS, Android, and Tablets.
• Create an all encompassing list of most popular apps, according to the behavioral analysis results, regardless of device.

Methodology Target
Behavioral data collection using All US behavioral panelists passive metering technology accessing at least one app on a from browsing and app usage. iOS, Android, or tablet device.
Sample Dates
2,278 Netquest US behavioral Behavioral data collected panelists who fit target criteria, between August 15, 2017 aged from 14 to 65 years old. to October 15, 2017.
All panelists had previously installed a meter on their smartphones and/or tablets which tracks online behavior. With this meter technol- ogy, researchers were easily able to collect the browsing habits and app usage of the panelists.
3 The results
As no surprise, people on iOS differed greatly from Android and tablet users. Whereas, Android users and Tablet users had a lot of overlapping app usage. iPhone users frequent iTunes Music the most, whereas Android users use Youtube. Although Youtube is a video platform, it’s the most popular on-demand music site in the world, claims Forbes. Therefore, we could assume Android users source their music mainly from Youtube where iPhone users utilize iTunes more for that purpose. Other than Goo- gle Search, iPhone users tend not to utilize Google products as much as Android and Tablet users. Which is something Apple would love to hear, since Google is one of its biggest competitors.

Netflix only appeared as a top ten for Tablet users, which we could assume is because tablets have ideal screen for streaming movies and shows in comparison to phone. Surprisingly, Facebook and Instagram outshined Twitter, the social media site that didn’t make any of the top ten lists.
