This research-creation is conducted with two main objectives: first, to investigate the unique narrative possibilities that VR affords as a result of its specific perceptual cues of scale. Second, to utilize the notion of scale in designing a remediated experience of a traditional screen-based form of storytelling in the Iranian culture known as Pardeh-Khani (literally translated as: reading off curtain/screen). In response to the first objective, possible ways that scale could leverage three distinct forms of immersion in VR were scrutinized under three isolated experiments. -

Nothing, nor this project, would have been the same without you. 2 Abstract The hereby document represents the Final Report for a bachelor's thesis on Video Game Design and Development. The following work consists of the design and development of Oceans of Reflection, a video game based on introspective and alterbiographical narratives that allows the player to approach their own being through mechanics and environment. More specifically, the aim is to enable the player to construct the narrative jointly with us, the developers, moving away from traditional narratives and adapting the experience for each of the users in such a way that it is completely personalized. The video game could be classified in the First Person Exploration and Puzzle Game genre and it will be developed in Unity 3D for PC using, inter alia, technologies such as Unity Shader Graph and voice recognition. -

Signature: Fraser Palamara Date: December 2020 Abstract Transmedia is a mixed-medium mode of storytelling that has undergone much analysis in academia (Freeman, 2015; Edmond, 2015). This Master of Research thesis is an attempt to map the methodology and design choices of transmedia texts via a categorical framework. In doing so, the terms Monetary and Deliberate transmedia are offered (MT/DT). This theory is supported by a three-principled analytical tool that measures from texts: the introduction of content, the roles fulfilled by each piece of media (and the relationships between them), and the quality of experience offered to consumers and participants through transmedia’s unique delivery. By applying such principles, a transmedia text’s ability to perform as either Monetary or deliberate (or a mixture of both) further investigates its design choices and functions. Theorising MT/DT categorisation considers the works of Henry Jenkins (2006), as well as other theorists such as Renira Rampazzo Gambarato (2013), Marsha Kinder (1991a), Drew Davidson (2010), and Andrea Phillips (2012). In this thesis, MT/DT is applied to two case studies: an original creative practice by the author, and the American television series Nathan for You (NFY) (2013). -
