The sex offender label is a scarlet letter in the USA. They are relegated to a life of public shame, with few opportunities for redemption. An a Lily Amirpour a tourné son premier film à 12 ans. Elle a travaillé en tant que peintre, sculptrice et chanteuse d’un groupe de rock indé avant d’aller à Los Angeles pour y étudier le cinéma. Son premier long métrage « A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night » a été présenté en première mondiale au Festival de Sundance en 2014.
Ana Lily Amirpour made her first film at age 12. She has a varied background in the arts including painting, sculpting, and touring the nation as frontwoman of an indie rock band, before she eventually moved to Los Angeles to study filmmaking. Her short films have played at festivals around the world and she has participated in various filmmaker programs. “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night” is Amirpour’s debut feature film, making its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

In 1993, while Hafsat Abiola studied at Harvard, her father was elected President of Nigeria. The military annulled the election results. Hafsat’s father became a prisoner and her mother spoke out against the military dictatorship, which led to her assassination. As Nigeria transitions to civilian rule, Hafsat faces the challenge of transforming a dysfunctional, fraudulent culture of political leadership into a legitimate democracy capable of serving Nigeria’s most marginalized population: women.

Grâce à de nouvelles techniques d’extraction, et notamment la fracturation hydraulique (le fracking ), le Dakota du Nord connaît depuis dix ans un boom pétrolier sans précédent qui a profondément modifié la vie des personnes et des communautés. Les exploitants locaux voient leurs traditions disparaître tandis que de nouveaux venus cherchent du travail et de meilleures conditions de vie. Mais l’avenir apparaît incertain pour John Heiser et Doug Wenner, les deux protagonistes du film.
Thanks to new extraction techniques, namely hydraulic fracking, North Dakota has been undergoing an unprecedented oil boom for the last ten years, which has lead to drastic changes, both individual and social. The local “homesteaders” watch their traditional way of life fade away, whereas newcomers arrive searching for jobs and a better way of life. The future is uncertain for John Heiser and for Doug Wenner, the two protagonists in the film.
Jean -Louis Schuller est un réalisateur et directeur de la photo né au Luxembourg en 1979. Après un diplôme dans la section Image à l’IAD de Bruxelles, il a fait un master en direction de la photographie à la National Film and Television School à Londres en 2008. Son film « High/Low » a reçu le prix du meilleur documentaire au Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis 2012 tandis que son court « Chungkin Dream » a été présenté au festival de Clermont-Ferrand et acheté par le MUDAM.
Sean Clark est né à Louisville dans le Kentucky et vit actuellement à Brooklyn. Il a étudié le cinéma à l’Université de Londres. Dans ses documentaires, il s’intéresse en premier lieu à l’Amérique du Sud et aux marginaux. Il tourne des portraits d’inconnus en insistant sur l’originalité de chaque histoire individuelle.

He completed a BA in Cinematography at the IAD in Brussels before moving to London, where he graduated from the MA course in Cinematography at the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in 2008. The clumsy land-based Nestrians Dave and his son Finny have made it on to Noah's Ark with the help of the grymp Hazel and her daughter Leah. For the two kids, it's the start of an adventure where Finny makes new friends, eludes crafty enemies, and learns something very important about himself that will save the lives of his father and of his new mob.

The little hare Johan and his father have lived at sea since he was three and his mother disappeared. Johan likes the ship. It has a greenhouse where they grow carrots, and it has fishing nets. Johan is good at diving and at mechanics, and helps his father repair the ship. One day when Johan’s father goes for provisions and Johan is left alone on the boat, he receives a distress call on the radio with a clue about his mother’s whereabouts.

Yacine is the veterinarian of the only zoo remaining in the Palestinian West Bank. He lives alone with his 10-year old son, Ziad. The kid has a special bond with the two giraffes in the zoo. He seems to be the only one to be able to communicate with them. After an air raid the male giraffe dies. His mate, Rita, won’t survive unless the veterinarian finds her a new companion. The only zoo that might provide this animal is located in Tel Aviv.

Il re alisé ensuite deux courts- me trages,́ « Cafe com leite » [Cafe ́ au lait] et « Eu nao quero voltar sozinho » (Je ne veux pas rentrer seul), pre senté ś dans plus de 180 festivals internationaux et récompensés par 115 prix dont l’Ours de cristal au festival de Berlin. Il est e galement́ le cre ́ateur d’un projet web anti- homophobie, « Eu sou gay » [Je suis gay]. « Au premier regard » est son premier long-me trage.́
Daniel Ribeiro , born in 1982, studied at the Cinema School of Sa õ Paulo University. He directed 2 short films: Cafe com leite [Coffee with milk] and “Eu nao quero voltar sozinho” [I do not want to go back alone] which were successful on the international festival circuit, being invited to over 180 festivals and winning over 100 awards. He also has created a web project against homophobia “Eu sou gay” [I am gay]. “The way he looks” is his first feature film.

COUP DE CŒUR DES ENFANTS
Pour la première fois à Luxembourg, les enfants auront également leur mot à dire dans un festival de cinéma ! Le festival les invite tous à voter pour leur film préféré, tous films confondus dans la catégorie 5-12 ans en exprimant leur « Coup de cœur ». Leur film favori sera révélé lors de la soirée de clôture du festival, le 7 mars à Utopolis.
For the first time in Luxembourg, the children willhave their say in a film festival! The festival invites all children to vote for their favourite film from the category 5-12 years and to choose their “Coup de Coeur”. The winning film will be unveiled at the festival’s closing ceremony on March 7 th at Utopolis.

Le festival leur permet de poursuivre l’aventure cinématographique en rédigeant des articles basés sur les nombreuses projections, débats et conférences, interviews avec les personnalités présentes, etc. Ils pourront également s’exercer en tant que photographe et réalisateur. Les travaux de ces journalistes en herbe seront ensuite publiés sur les réseaux sociaux du festival.
The former members of the Youth Jury 2014 hatch into the role of young reporters in 2015. The festival offers them the opportunity to continue their adventure in the film industry By writing articles about the screenings, debates and conferences and By interviewing the festival’s guests. Moreover, they can let their creativity run free By working as photographers or filmmakers. The work of our young journalists will be published on the festival’s social networks.

Technique d’animation en volume, le Stop-Motion permet de créer des mouvements à partir de photographies d’objets immobiles, de marionnettes, de personnages en pâte à modeler…
L’atelier sera animé par le réalisateur suédois Uzi Geffenblad, travaillant depuis plus que 20 ans dans le domaine de l’animation. Son film « Les nouvelles aventures de Gros-pois et Petit-point » pour les 3-5 ans sera projeté lors du Luxembourg City Film Festival.

L’atelier animé par Boyd Van Hoeij, critique pour The Hollywood Reporter , offre des conseils pratiques pour rédiger des critiques de cinéma et traite de plusieurs thèmes liés à l’analyse de films. Les participants découvriront, entre autres, les différentes approches et règles d’écriture des critiques de films.
L’atelier s’adresse au grand public mais plaira particulièrement aux journalistes, écrivains amateurs ainsi qu’aux cinéphiles s’intéressant à l’analyse des techniques cinématographiques.
Deux journées seront consacrées à la théorie, lecture et analyse de critiques. Une séance sera dédiée aux travaux pratiques : écriture selon les divers lectorats cibles et en fonction des publications (blogs, site Internet, journaux internationaux, magazines spécialisés, etc.).
Le dernier module « Analyse de film » sera également ouvert au grand public. Une analyse intégrale « image par image » du film « Scarface » (1932) de Howard Hawks sera présentée à l’auditorium du Cercle Cité.
The Film Critics workshop with Boyd Van Hoeij (“The Hollywood Reporter”) offers practical help with writing film reviews while covering several topics related to film analysis. The workshop is open to all but should prove especially interesting for budding writers, film enthusiasts interested in analysis and discussion of film technique and those interested in reviews and criticism.
The workshop combines 2 days of theory and one day of practical exercises that will teach the participants how to read reviews, how to analyse films and how to write about films for different audiences (blogs, newspapers, magazines).
The module “Film Analysis”, which is open to the public, takes place on March 4 th and is part of the Film Critics workshop. The participants attend an “image By image” analysis of the film “SCARFACE” (Howard Hawks, 1932) by Boyd Van Hoeij in the auditorium at the Cercle Cité.

Destinés aux étudiants et scénaristes entre 18 et 35 ans ayant un projet en cours d’écriture, l'atelier se concentre sur vos projets de scénarios courts-métrages et sur le pitch comme base de développement voire de réécriture. Outre des rendez-vous individuels donnant lieu a ̀ des retours personnalisés, le travail en groupe sera privilégie ́ pour analyser en profondeur chaque scénario. L’atelier se terminera par une session de pitch du scénario ainsi retravaillé. Les participants au « Pitch Discovery » sont également invités en tant qu’observateurs à la 9ème édition du European Short Pitch (en anglais) les 6 et 7 mars 2015.
The Pitch Discovery workshop will be held during 4 days for students and scriptwriters who are between 18 and 35 years old. It will focus on the pitch as a basis for developing or re-writing a script. Besides one-on-one meetings, group work will be privileged in order to analyse each script in depth. The workshop will end with a pitching session of the revised script. The participants of Pitch Discovery are also invited to attend the 9th edition of the European Short Pitch Forum (in English) on the 6 th & 7 th March 2015

Au sein du Cercle Cite, situe au coeur de la Ville de Luxembourg, il se transforme, le temps du festival en point de convergence ideal entre les projections. For 11 days, the Ratskeller will be THE place to be before and after the film screenings. Located at Cercle Cité in the heart of Luxembourg City, it will become the festival’s headquarter. The complex will host a variety of events such as a pop-up bar, run by URBAN; a welcome and information desk; exhibitions centred around the world of cinema; workshops, discussion panels, encounters and parties.

Fondé en 2001, NISI MASA est un réseau européen d'associations, actuellement présent dans 26 pays. Ces associations sont constituées de jeunes professionnels, étudiants et amateurs avec une cause commune : le cinéma européen.
European Short Pitch is a NISI MASA flagship project that promotes European coproductions of short films. It is a scriptwriting and pitching project aiming to support the development of young directors and to get their short films made as Combining a scriptwriting workshop in a residency, an on-line session and a Coproduction Forum it is the perfect occasion to assemble scriptwriters and industry professionals from all over Europe.

ETUDE DE CAS / C ASE STUDIE : « SOUNDHUNTERS » La création audiovisuelle, documentaire et cinématographique, se singularise depuis quelques années par un intérêt croissant pour les nouveaux modes de consommation des spectateurs et téléspectateurs. Or pour pouvoir adapter un contenu créatif sur un ensemble de média (cinéma, télévision, web, tablette, jeu vidéo, édition, radio, etc.) il y a lieu de concevoir de nouvelles narrations qui impliquent une écriture spécifique. Découvrez à travers l‘étude de cas de « Soundhunters » tout ce qui fait la spécificité de cette nouvelle forme de narration : la narration Transmédia.
« Soundhunters » ou vivre le monde comme un instrument de musique infini… Pour découvrir la richesse sonore du monde, des documentaires (diffusés à la télévision ou sur le web) filmés à Berlin, New York, Sao Paulo et Lagos. Pour contribuer à cette richesse, des outils interactifs (application pour ordinateurs, portables et tablettes) permettant à l’utilisateur de créer sa propre réalité musicale, d’inventer sa propre grammaire, son propre langage. Il ne suffit pas d’ouvrir les yeux sur le monde, il faut aussi l’écouter.

Oksana est une femme, une militante, une artiste. Adolescente, sa passion pour la peinture d'icônes la pousse à entrer au couvent, mais c'est au sein du mouvement Femen qu'elle met finalement à contribution son talent. Elle a co-fondé avec Anna, Inna et Sasha le fameux groupe d'opposantes féministes au régime, qui l'amène de son Ukraine natale aux quatre coins de l'Europe. Entre rage de créer et envie de changer le monde, Oksana livre sa personnalité discrète, envoûtante et multicolore, à l'image de ses ouvres passionnées.
Oskana is a woman, a militant and an artist. As a teenager, her passion for painting icons led her to enter a convent, but it was with the Femen movement that she finally put her talent to use. With Anna, Inna and Sasha, she co-founded the famous group of feminist dissidents that has taken her from her native Ukraine to the four corners of Europe. Between the furious urge to create and the desire to change the world, Oksana expresses her discreet, bewitching and multi-coloured personality in the image of her passionate works.

Le film « Trains Of Thoughts » de Timo Novotny nous emmène de Vienne à Moscou, avec des haltes dans quelques-unes des plus grandes mégalopoles (New York, Hong Kong,…). Cette création vidéo explore l'influence du métro et des populations qui gravitent autour, tandis que la musique des SOFA SURFERS – jouée en LIVE - en souligne les images les plus marquantes à travers une bande-son qui lorgne entre dub, trip-hop et acid jazz.
“Trains Of Thoughts” will unplug you and take you on a trip from Vienna to Moscow, dropping you off in some of the most emblematic cosmopolitan hubs of the world as New York or Hong Kong. Sofa Surfers' music will beat the time of your trip and with the subway moving on without a pause, Trains of Thoughts keeps you flowing as the citizens around the world flow through the tube corridors, and as carriages flow from one stop to another while life above is going on.

« The Scorpion's Sting », projet artistique et cinématographique ambitieux, rassemble les artistes contemporains John Bock, Keren Cytter, Julian Rosefeldt and Tobias Zielony, ainsi que le collectif d’artistes Chicks on Speed et le duo M+M. Ces artistes ont réalisé une nouvelle production aussi radicale que créative, offrant une réflexion sur les thèmes et motifs présents dans le chef d’œuvre surréaliste de Buñuel. « L'Âge d'Or » a joué un rôle crucial pour asseoir l’importance du cinéma dans le domaine des arts visuels. Son influence sur l’art contemporain – notamment sur les tendances narratives de ces dernières années – est indéniable. Les six films réalisés sont donc inspirés des six parties de « L'Âge d'Or », se terminant, tout comme les six segments de la queue d’un scorpion, en un dard vénéneux.
The ambitious art film project “The Scorpion's Sting” brings together the contemporary artists John Bock, Keren Cytter, Julian Rosefeldt and Tobias Zielony, as well as the artists' collective Chicks on Speed and the duo M+M. These artists have created an equally radical and creative new production reflecting on the themes and motifs found in Luis Buñuel's early surrealist masterpiece. “L'Âge d'Or” played an important role in establishing cinema's significance for the visual arts. Its influence on contemporary art - particularly on narrative tendencies of recent years - is obvious.The six films are inspired By the six parts of “L'Âge d'Or”, culminating - just like the six segments of the scorpion's jointed tail - in a poisonous sting.

L’an dernier, A BOY NAMED SEB et SUN GLITTERS avaient électrisé les caves historiques du Casino Luxembourg à travers une soirée Discovery Zone qui nous est restée dans les mémoires. On y croisait Jean-Marc Barr, le Jury International de cet événement cinématographique, les jeunes réalisateurs européens du réseau Nisi Masa…
Ce samedi 7 mars 2015, cette Volunteers Party mettra à nouveau à l’honneur ceux sans qui le Luxembourg City Film Festival ne pourrait se faire. Acteurs, réalisateurs, organisateurs partenaires et bénévoles se noieront dans une orgie de décibels, grâce à un casting aux platines que l’on vous promet endiablé grâce à DJ SAUCISSE aka DOP Massacre & A BOY NAMED SEB.
Last year, A BOY NAMED SEB and SUN GLITTERS electrified the historic cellars of the Casino Luxembourg at a Discovery Zone party that has remained in the memory of everyone there. In the crowd were Jean-Marc Barr, the film event's International Jury, the young European directors of the Nisi Masa network… and many more.
On Saturday 7 March 2015, the Volunteers Party will once again pay tribute to the people without whom the Luxembourg City Film Festival could not take place. Actors, directors, partner organisers and volunteers will give themselves up to an orgy of decibels with a roster of DJs who promise a night of musical frenzy: DJ SAUCISSE aka DOP Massacre and A BOY NAMED SEB .
