That girl who speaks Books and Life! What she doesn't do, for good and ill, is interpret as much as she needed, in order to give the reader a true sense of being on the inside. Sheila Weller has created a brilliant kaleidoscopic portrait of a true original, smack in the center of our celebrity culture: a brassy, vulnerable lady with a searching intelligence rapier wit and a capacity for deep deep friendships. Still, I thought, perhaps there was more to be said, by those who loved and mourned her. What most strongly resonated, though, was Fisher - despite her flaws or quirks, and NONE of us are perfect - often effortlessly and sincerely morphing between best friend-confidante- mentor-'big sister' roles for a large number of people school classmates, fellow celebrities, etc. This was an iconic role that cemented her fame for decades to come. If you have read Carrie's memoirs, books, and seen the movies she script doctored and there were some even I didn't know about , you already know all the good lines in the book.
